We were up for a group dive trip in October and Jake made us all feel very welcome.
Plenty of space in the kitchen for breakfast. A great lounge and dining area for us all to gather and the fire was appreciated in the cooler evenings.

Perfect space for our group

Fun and welcoming! Friendly hosts who will help with as much as is possible. Jake and his wife were exceptional hosts who bent over backwards to ensure the place was clean and hospitable. I'm going back there this week.

What a great place to stay

I still caan't find the prices for the activites and his really confusing me and now i'm sressd out , but it won't matter i will find what i'm looking for at the end , becuse i know i can do it soon and i haaave had fun looking at this web site

Activite prices

This hostel is located 1 minute walk away from the beach and there is free street parking. The room is basic with a bed and side table but this is all we needed . There are little touches around the place like tea and coffee , fires lit every night and maps of the area are given . The owners are very nice and helpful and the layout of the hostel means whether you want a party vibe or quiet time there is somewhere for you. Our only criticism of this place is that the wifi is not very good and we need good wifi for work so this limited us slightly. Would definitely stay again ! 

Perfect location good value for money 

The bar noise makes it impossible to sleep (even with earplugs), as well as the unstable, creaking beds, that wobble and creak whenever anyone moves. The bars across the road are very noisy till very late. I would not return and don't recommend. Was very happy to leave. No femaile only spaces for changing or any kind of privacy.

This hostel is an awesome place! Nice and familiar with a lovely view from the balcony! It is also very quiet and clean :) the beach is nearby as well as some nice bars. highly recommended, I would definitly visit it again :) 

Nice and familiar Hostel

We stayed 3 nights because of water sports possibilities in the town. Hostel is conveniently located. Noise from pubs across can be heard until late. Place is cosy and comfortable but some paint and wood works wouldn't hurt the cosyness. Jake is a man of rules. You find them posted everywhere. Guess all the bad experiences with previous guest. Good idea are three separate smaller kitchen through the house. They have to stock up on cutlery and get some new sharp knives (tip broken off). Countertops and cabinets feel sticky and could be painted. Cabinet door locks are old fashioned and uncomfortable to use.
Nice interior design, cute garden. Laundry shack looks pretty run down.
Overall a good place to stay when you stay in the town. 

Cosy but brush - up necessary 

This is one of the nicest hostels I have stayed in in NZ! The building itself is amazing, with loads of cosy spaces to relax indoors and outdoors. The owner and staff were all lovely and I felt very at home here. It was quiet and calm and exactly what I was looking for!

really lovely hostel owner was polite but was a bit mean too strict and judgemental. seemed pretty grumpy and had been doing it for too long.thought they woyld luke the business sunce piahia is super quiet in winter. such a shame.

It's impossible not to love The Mousetrap! 
The owners are amazing and super friendly, the hostel is always clean, the staff was great and so was the atmosphere - I met so many new friends there.
I booked for a couple of days and ended up staying for two weeks!
Close to the city center, right at the beach, near some nice pubs and bars.
It has a quiet policy, after 11 pm you are not allowed on the upper floor, but you can stay in the other kitchen. I loved that because it means you can actually get some sleep.
Also they can book tours and staff for you, great!
Only bad thing is that the bunk bed are super noisy, if the person above you moves a lot you'll probably be hearing a lot of noises.
