Such a great family oriented place to stay. Safe holiday park so kids free to run off and play with new friends they met at the campground. Pizza oven is awesome and we used it heaps. Facilities well cared for and clean. Hosts are lovely and always helpful. Safe swimming beach just across the road. Plenty of places to explore. Was an awesome family getaway and we look forward to going back as soon as we can.

Big Bay Holiday

My husband and I really enjoyed our time at big bay over the long weekend. There was plenty of room for the kids to play and it's just across the road from the beach!! Was very convenient having the fish and chip shop/dairy on site too. A great affordable getaway for the whole family :-)

Great getaway

I remember visiting this park as a kid and the current owners have improved this place so much it looks amazing now!
The owners are so helpful, the shop was well stocked and the takeaway bar was awesome and absolutely LOVED the pizza oven!!

Fantastic improvements!

As frequent visitors of the shop and takeaways (always fresh and delicious) we find Helen and Ian very welcoming.    Positioned across the road from the beach and picnic look out  - Big Bay Holiday Park would be a great place to stay and discover all the Awhitu Peninsula has to offer.

Quintessential Holiday Park

We just spent the week at Big Bay with our family. We camped in our tent out the back on the beautiful tent sites surrounded by the trees and stars at night. The camp is really well set out with a shop and takeaways onsite with some of the best burgers and fish we have had in ages. We spent new years on the beach with a fire and friends welcoming in the new year watching the fireworks from the sky tower and the locals of the bay itself. The owners were very helpful and friendly towards us and we will definitely be back again. Thanks for a great holiday.

Wonderful beach holiday spent with Family

We had such a great experience staying at this holiday park. The owners are very friendly and helpful. The takeaways are very yummy and there is also a pizza oven that we made good use of. It’s right on the beach - perfect for a beach stroll and swimming. Would highly recommend to anyone!!

Wonderful and relaxing holiday park

Cannot recommend highly enough that you avoid this camping site.  I'm a kiwi and the people who own this camp were so horrible, I wanted to warn any international or local visitors to stay away.  They were rude and shouldn't be in hospitality.  I have travelled in lots of countries and extensively around NZ and have never been treated so rudely.  They wouldn't refund our booking money.  We ended up staying the night as it was getting dark.  We then learnt the facilities are dirty and sub standard. The bathrooms had a lot of corrosion in the showers and sinks in both mens and womens and were dirty.  Little has been done to maintain any sort of up keep of this property and everything is very outdated.  That would have been fine if it wasn't dirty as well. A lot of old wrecked caravans were dotted around the property...all very shabby.   We learnt from locals that this couple are infamous for their awful behaviour.  In the end we travelled around the area and camped closer to Waiuku.  Even that far away these people had a bad reputation and the owners of our next camp ground were well aware of the Big Bay Camping grounds bad reputation.

The worst camping site with nastiest proprietors ever encountered

Met with grumble. The couple who run this campground have some issues in their life they like to take out on their customers. Don't be one of them. Been to many campsites but this one was by far the worse. I love camping at sites and have been to many over the years and I hope they survive in New Zealand. This is the first site I beileve should be sold for land development as its a poor example of a kiwi experience. Overseas visitors, these people at this campsite do not represent true kiwi hospitality...Don't do it.

Nasty Nasty....No Customer Service Expierence

We had an extremely lovely time here.  The hosts were very helpful and friendly.  The room was tidy and clean, absolutely loved the pizza oven, will be back.

The community needs to clean up the nearby beach.  That's not on the camp owners at all though.
