We chose this motel because there were 4 of us and we wanted 2 bedrooms rather than the fold out couch in the lounge.  It is an older motel with dated decor and furniture, but it is clean and has had a fairly recent coat of paint and newish curtains.  The interior windows/frames could do with a clean.  
The beds were comfortable and decent size bright white towels.
There was no body wash for the shower - there was 1 full and 1 half empty motel sized bottles of shampoo and hand wash.  These were not replenished on our second day.
The grounds behind the main building are really scruffy with lots of junk which was our view when we walked out the door - it really needs a clean up.
All things considered, this was great value for money at $205 a night for the 4 of us.

Great value for money

I was struggling to find accommodation over a weekend when there were several busy events on in Palmerston. I was pleased to find Awatea Park Motel was available. 
For your money you get congenial hosts, a nice-sized bedroom with a small but well-equipped kitchenette (fridge, electric hob, kettle, toaster, microwave, utensils) and a bathroom with a hot shower like a water-blaster (fantastic after sports activities!) Parking and wifi provided.
Some reviews have pointed out that the rooms and furnishings are a bit old and dated- but they are clean and fully functional. Maybe the kitchen cupboards could use a lick of paint. And the curtains across the French windows needed to be 4 inches wider.
But the place compares well with others for price and the city centre is walking distance (took me 15 minutes).
Would stay again.



Affordable motel with all the amenities- would stay again

3 of us staying in Unit 1 (2 single beds, 1x double). It was clean and tidy, but we unfortunately encountered some ants in the kitchen (possibly attracted by something sweet and sticky left out on the bench), but they were easily taken care of. Otherwise no complaints. The manager was happy to help out with a couple of small requests. I'm not sure why so many people complain about motels being 'dated' because of the colour scheme and furniture just because it's not modern, but it's all in good shape and not tatty. The only- very slight- problem was the glass table and coffee table tops and not having anything provided to put down hot plates/cups, but we improvised. Quiet surroundings overall but we could hear some boy racers out on the main road. Adequate heating for the cold nights. Beds very comfortable. Backs onto a very pretty park/reserve. Would stay there again.

Perfectly fine motel

Great stay - is a very well situated motel - the motel it self is an older building but extremely clean and tidy. 

Right on a main road but is quiet - we stayed on a Friday night and had no issues with noise etc

Great stay - made to feel welcome 

My partner had to travel from Hamilton for a last minute family emergency midweek so I booked this motel for him while he was enroute.  I purposely went directly to the motel's own website to book, hoping to save them booking fees.  Their own website asked what time for check in and I advised 8.30pm which is when my partner guessed he would arrive at the motel.
Upon arrival at 8.10pm the host/owner rudely asked him why he was late as check in was 8pm as that was when the office closed, all the while moaning about 'jaffas' using booking.com which cost him money bla bla bla. My partner pointed out that he was actually earlier than his stated booking time and that I had done this on his behalf (directly through their own website mind you) as he was driving, but the owner carried on being rude and argumentative.   
In hindsight, I should've read the reviews.  The room was standard, basic and at least clean but would not recommend this motel. 
NB: The following morning my partner found a notice in the room with office hours   as Mon-Fr 7am - 10pm, ring the bell and we will attend shortly.
Terrible service from a long term motelier, especially as so many are struggling after covid. Perhaps they should sell up and do something more suited as they do not live up to their claims of being wonderful hosts as per their website.

Rude and unwelcoming

Carpets very worn & looked like they needed a clean, toilet didn’t flush and ran water constantly. Very dated decor, mattresses on beds uncomfortable. Price was applicable for the motel condition but could do with an update with decor and carpets.

I got a laugh out of previous review as we also met "the owner" who told us we wasted money paying booking.com. However under that gruff voice was a very nice man who was tired of being there ten years, told us he doesn't leave keys out...
I was having eye operation in Palmerston North hospital and booked the night between the operation and the followup next day. He put the heater on for us and we went out for dinner at Rose and Crown Pub. Unit was $106 and was very good value, close to most places people visit...

Corner unit by lovely park,lots of trees.

This is a really lovely location next to a park with lots of trees and lawns for children to play in yet really handy to the city. The unit had well appointed facilities and the owner/manager was more than helpful. I have no hesitation in recommending this motel.

Lovely spot

We left tauranga after a days work leaving at 3.30pm to stay at awatea the night before a photo shoot the next morning and heading back home again.Not knowing where to stay we looked up booking.com and booked two rooms the day before.on our trip down once we reached taihape at 7.40 pm we realized we would be about 15min to 30 min after checkin so we phoned ahead politely to notify thinking they would leave a key under Matt or in room. Told extremely rudely that we can find somewhere else to stay and we should not be so lazy he has been up since 6am. Called bloody lazy for using booking.com Explaining the situation made no difference.Four years on the road and I have never met anyone like this. Stay away from awatea. Cost us for another 2 rooms at another hotel who were much more considerate.

Terrible manager

A basic motel unit somewhat dated,  but clean and comfortable.   The gardens were overgrown and untidy and the whole place could do with a bit of a tidy up.   
Neighbour sat outside his unit smoking and we would suggest a smoking area away from the units.  
Also suggest security stays on the windows as we were rather hot inside overnight and did not want to leave windows open. 
That aside,  it suited our needs and we were not in it much.    The adjacent park area has lovely trees with birds singing in the morning.
