After 5 nights into our road trip it was a welcome relief to stay at The Cove - spacious, very clean, friendly staff and a great view of the lake.  

We actually spent a couple of hours just chilling out in the sun soaked suite.

It’s great to see a hotel/motel still offering shampoo etc in little containers - something about the big bottles attached to the wall that most hotels do nowadays grosses me out :)

The only downfall are the steps,
so beware if you have heavy luggage but there are ground floor units.

The cafe for breakfast is amazing! Excellent food, service and incredible view of the lake!

Lovely

So we stayed at the property for 3 nights. When we arrived at the property we were given a room that was very different from the photos. The bathroom was dirty and very tired, contrary to the photos on booking.com site.
When complained to the front desk ,they tried  to argue with me when instructed that it was misleading photos and that  i can make a complaint against them to consumer protection nz. Then they were willing to cooperate. 
We were given $200 off our booking and an upgrade on the last night. BUT WE had to use the disgusting toilet and bathroom for the first 2 nights.  It was not good enough. This accommodation is badly in need of renovation.

Photos are misleading

The Cove on the shores of Taupo was a great place to stay with  the excellent service given sticking in our minds. Warm & friendly staff made our stay that extra bit enjoyable!  We had a Premiere Spa suite which had a separate bedroom and Great Lake view

Superb staff and service

The room and spa pool was really good and the shower was really good and the double bed was really good and I would stay in room 3 again and last night I got into the spa pool twice and the bed was really comfortable and the sleep was really good and will sleep in that bed again

Really good

We have wanted to stay here for awhile and we would highly recommend it. Easy check-in. The spa suite was well appointed and very clean and spacious. We enjoyed sitting on the balcony in the winter sun looking out over Lake Taupo. Excellent spa on balcony.

Location, location, location

Overall our stay was pleasant . The room was a reasonable size with lake views. A bonus was the cafe on site with beautiful food and great variety .
But why have a kitchenette with a small sink , crockery and cutlery and dish washing liquid supplied when dish cloths and tea towels were missing?
The cost of this accomodation isn’t cheap and we would have expected a t v in the bedroom.
The spa has a safety barrier which has to be negotiated and isn’t easy for older people. Showers over baths are never the best. The premises need to be moved into 2021 if it is to be classed at the top end of the market.
The bed was excellent and the room was clean and tidy. 

Little details need attention

Had a lovely breakfast experience! Nice and quiet when we visited at 8:30, activities were provided for our two young kids and the food was delicious.  Coffees were on point!  Will definitely be back and would highly recommend.

Enjoyable experience

Reasonably close to town, on State Highway One, The Cove Taupo, we stopped for one night. Our room had a Spa option, which one family member enjoyed...

Disappointed that the Cafe was not open, either for Breakfast or Brunch Option.

A One Night Stop.....

We have just spent a weekend in one of the superior spa rooms and had a great experience. The cafe at the lake end of the motel is great for breakfast or a coffee. The rooms are very comfortable and surprisingly dark and quiet at night!

Great spot

We made a last minute booking for two nights and were really pleased with our stay and the value for money - we have already booked a spa room for January 2021.  The Cove is in a great spot and just a few km out of town (an easy walk along the lake).  The Wholesome Kitchen on the lake front is a lovely spot for breakfast.
