I have stayed several times in the Nook and in the past have also found it clean and comfortable, unfortunately my recent stay was very disappointing, the room reeked of urine, which I think came from the direction of the bed. The unit is starting to get a bit tired and in need of some care, broken blinds, could do with a coat of paint and some attention to cleaning would help, there is mould on the bathroom ceiling and obviously the mattress is in need of changing or cleaning.  Plenty of warm blankets for the cold Taupo nights, but could do with upgrading the very thin pillows.

In  need of some TLC

A great place right on the lake and just a short stroll to the sailing club for delicious pizza. The room was a great size and the amenities were great. Friendly welcome on arrival. All very cosy and the spa bath was fun. Would definitely return. The only downside for me was that there was light shining through the windows next to front door which made it difficult to sleep.

Great, comfortable spot on the lakeside!

Delightful and quaint motel with accommodating staff who were very helpful. They have bikes and kayaks to rent on their property. The model really looks like its picture. Our room "The Nook" had a delightful back patio with chairs and a small table. About a 15 minute walk along Lake Taupo to the center of town. 

We'd definitely return

Our expectations were high as we entered the driveway, noting the prominently displayed sign recognising the property as one of the top 1% of hotels on Trip Advisor – despite being a motel.  Perhaps this might be a great motel, but when you proudly advertise as being in the top 1%  and having a 9.6 rating on Hotels.Com, then you have a lot to live up to.

“Nostalgic” may be a kind description, “dated” or “tired” would be my choice as our room would have been quite familiar to a visitor from the 1980s, with the décor, mini kitchen and furniture a throwback to that era.  The light fittings were so old they were rusting away with the old style light bulbs pumping out the heat.  The TV was a little newer, the 50 inch centrepiece (an early TV version from Samsung with a resolution of 760ip) was a mere 13 years old and therefore incompatible with the resolution of today’s laptop. 

The crockery was definitely from the past, but it was more akin to those found in student accommodation than a top establishment. There were four, very small, main dinner  plates and bowls, but just three water and wine glasses plus three mugs but only the most basic cutlery for two. The casserole top and bottom were from different sets. Meanwhile the super cheap plastic bin (surely not another 80s relic?) had a split lid, and there was no differentiatIon between recyclable and landfill.

I suspect that once upon a time, maybe when it was built, the property had a great view of the lake, a major implied attraction, but not any more. Another building has been built in front and so taken the prime spot,  therefore our “partial view” was only partly visible from a side window (see photo).

As a rule, I try not to write poor reviews and it’s not all bad here, the staff are friendly, there are good laundry facilities on site, the room is spotlessly clean, the sheets are high quality, the bathroom had been modernised relatively recently, the shower worked effectively and the upstairs a/c was great (shame nothing in the bedroom though).  

However, overall as a mid range motel, it’s fine for the price, but to promote itself as a top hotel is, to be kind, an exercise in delusion, bordering on misleading.

Hmmm,  not a top stay

We had a wonderful stay here. Clean, tidy and has everything you need. We stayed in a family unit. It has a spa bath in main room upstairs with a balcony. Right next to the lake and they have bikes and kayaks you can hire.

We had gifts delivered to the wrong address and Tania at cottage views was extremely helpful ensuring the package was brought to the correct address. It is great to know people are still so kind and helpful. 
Would definitely stay the next time I'm in Taupo

Very Helpful friendly hosts

We had a studio apartment with a queen bed and a single, both of which were comfortable. It had a little courtyard with table and chairs which was fairly private, but I had to wipe the table down before we could use it, it had a big layer of dust and bird poo on it. We also had a spa bath which was nice. Comfortable chairs to sit on and pretty cushions. Microwave and hot plate and other normal things. The big down fall was the bathroom, there was no room at all to put anything on the vanity and it was quite low down. Worst part was the shower, it was unadjustable and hit us both at face height almost needed a snorkel, and it sprayed everywhere. There was a curtain not a shower door so water went on the floor. Was the worst shower of our trip, bathrooms could do with an update for sure. We got the room at a discount as we turned up later in the day, thankfully would not of wanted to pay full price.

Comfortable but terrible shower

We were looking for a comfortable overnight stop to break our journey south and we couldn’t have chosen better! We received genuine warmth and friendly hospitality, and the heat pump was on just before we arrived so our our room was lovely and warm. Very nice touch. 

Our unit was spotlessly clean with nice firm beds and good quality linen and towels. 
Access to the lake was quick and easy and great not having to cross the busy highway.

A place that is well looked after and maintained. Thank you.

Genuine kiwi hospitality

One of the cleanest, well presented motels we have been to. Loved all the personal touches in the room like the air conditioning being on at arrival. The freindly staff went out of their way to make us welcome. Will definitely be back. Thanks 😊 

Great Stay

Thanks for a great  place  to stay,to break our trip south. We were comfortable  and enjoyed the luxury of our own courtyard.  The weather was a bit chilly but we could keep our bikes there safely even if we didn't sit outside.
