We had an amazing experience staying at this facility in June 2022. It is a quirky building but brought back nostalgic feelings as the building reminded of our ancestral home in Neyyoor, Kanyakumari District in South India. The hosts Iain and Penny, were absolutely friendly and helpful. They offered to provide airport transfers which made our lives easier as it is the cold and wet season in Tauranga. They provided us with excellent and enjoyable breakfast daily (included in the fares) with seasonal fruits, yoghurt, croissants, coffee and tea. Yhe family room was quite spacious with a sitting room, comfortable bedroom with a heatpump, adequate bathroom and a balcony located in front of the quiet waters. The CBD, Eateries and Supermarkets are just 10 mins walk from there. On the ground level, we had full access to the dining room and lounge warmed by open fire place. Walkways by the river were very clean and enjoyable. Our best experience in a long time.

Home away from Home

Beautiful and clean... lovely and warm... the hosts were so humble and couldn’t do enough for you. Tea and homemade biscuits readily available. A lovely breakfast set out on gorgeous delicate crockery. We are going back

Anniversary weekend

We stayed here for two nights on our NZ tour.
The main house is stunning, fabulous original rooms, stripped floors, lovely fixtures and fittings.
Harbour views from some rooms and bedrooms, all set in an immaculate area, and very quiet.
The staff are friendly, but only on a business basis, they are not Kiwis, but chinese, who are lovely, but not like dealing with an owner, the lady on site is a manager.
Breakfast was good, plenty of cereals, fruit etc, then cooked eggs on toast, absolutely fine.
Our gripe was our room, i think it was made for hobbits, we had a twin room, on suite, upstairs, the photos looked great, in reality, once we had cases in and ourselves, it was inadequate, far to small, and the on suite was smaller than you’d get in a caravan, very very snug.
Overall we enjoyed our stay, but the bedroom was far to small for the cost.

Colonial beauty, but hobbit house bedrooms.

Loved the hotel, rooms clean and spacious, great views of coast line from garden. Really quiet and ideally located for looking around town. Breakfast served at large table with other guest, plenty to eat, great choice. Fantastic overnight stay on our road trip around the north island.

Stunning views, great location

I booked Taiparoro as a romantic weekend away with my girlfriend at the last minute. Couldn’t have chosen a better place to stay. The house is immaculate and full of character. Glass doors from our room opened out to the beautiful garden and with views of the harbour beyond. There is a log burning stove with seating around to relax by in the evening and seating with great views in the garden.
We were welcomed by our very friendly host Melissa who also cooked our delicious breakfast both mornings. 
I would recommend getting up early and climbing mt Maunganui for sunrise then returning for the complimentary breakfast served between 8-9am.

Stunning property at an affordable rate

Always wary of booking a chepaer overnight stay but needs must sometimes. We received a great welcome from our Chinese host and she showed us around with pride. Our room was great, remember it is a heritage building so not a modern purpose built hotel with all singing and dancing extras. Stayed in far more expensive places before and been disappointed, this was a real surprise, the bed was as good as any, so comfortable. The breakfast was a surprise too, lots to eat and beautifully cooked eggs and bacon, it was a bargain in our opinion. Well situated too, easy walk in to town. Nice lounge area, toasty warm and also a nice deck looking out to sea. We will return for sure

A real surprise!

Stayed there 3 nights, booked this B&B and expected to have hosts from NZ, but the hosts are Chinese with partly very limited knowledge of English. Inattentive service at breakfast, staff (or host?) preferred to talk to Chinese guests instead; rooms are serviced only on request

Great colonial building, but missed the flair of New Zealand

Lovely house, nice gardens but ensuite are small, built above garage and no air circulation and face sun. Fan moved hot air around. Over 90f or 30c entire stay. These rooms should not be rented in summer. Hosts pleasant but limited English. Room services if requested which meant clean bathroom and towels.

Four sleepless nights

On arrival we found nobody in house - repeatedly rang bell , finally after opening doors etc a Chinese man appeared removing his headphones too welcome us . We were showed too our Luxury room ? No TV .  No wardrobe . A little disappointed tbh. A plastic fan provided relief from heat .  Our brother and sister in law had a double room
Of a lower grade which had TV etc so not sure how this works .The house is beautiful, relaxing, good breakfast , tea/ Instant coffee available all day . Chinese hosts were lovely but broken English . Rooms not cleaned in our 3 day stay . 

Beautiful Views. Welcoming.

The house itself is great, well maintained, looked after, and clean. Great breakfast selection provided by friendly hosts. Good location, too.

While the size of the beds would have been okay, the felt a bit worn out (both the bed itself as well as the mattress). The bigger issue, however, was the bathroom. It was very small and even for an average person like me, I could just about stand up straight and just about turn around.
