This is a very clean and tidy hostel. Staff were great.  Within a few minutes walking distance to town, the local supermarket, resturants and the lake. Ample parking if you are traveling in a vehicle.  I'll definitely use them again. Highly recommended

Awesome hostel

Stayed there on my bacjpacker trip in march 2020. Enjoyed the helpful staff, the nicely equipped kitchen and overall the YHA standards (comfort, friendliness cleanliness) the hostel is also near of the village center and almost next to the lake.

Good hostel in a quiet setting

Stayed in room 26 which is away from the main building so have to go outside in the rain to get to the kitchen and bathroom. Not ideal but not awful. First problem came when trying to store our fridge bag as most of the food in the fridge was moulding and dated from two weeks previous. Asked the guys in reception to sort it out which they did. 
Unfortunately we then made the mistake of trying to join the two twin beds in the room to make a makeshift double bed which only exposed a lot more dead insects under the bed than you would want to see. The air in the room was so musty I didn't think the door had even been opened in a while. Overall I didn't get the impression that either the kitchen or room had been particularly well cleaned in a while.

Not a very clean experience

First time staying at the YHA in Te Anau and definitely would stay again.

Dorm beds are larger size and comfortable, no lockable storage in the room but space to leave your stuff, each room has a heater.

There are very minimal bathrooms on the first floor but second floor has a lot more. Kitchen is kept clean and well stocked but a little more fridge and dry food space would be nice, especially when hostel is full. 

I never found it very noisy at night or in the morning which was also nice.

Decent commons space areas but I spent more time in the room for quiet. WiFi isn’t great but when I was there it rained for multiple days and everyone was trapped inside so system was likely overloaded with users. Good parking and street parking right outside too.

I was there during the serious storm in early Feb. It was miserable being trapped inside for days but staff was nice and the facilities were nice enough and kept clean where being stuck there was as comfortable as possible.

I definitely plan to stay again when I’m in town. 

Nice hostel to be stuck in during rain

We liked our stay here but it can be noisy when fully booked. This place has one of the better YHA kitchens i have used and the staff keep it all very clean. It Could use more fridge space when hostel is full and also more toilets downstairs.  A bit limited. We switched rooms as rooms 26 to 29 are in a separate building and their 1 shared unisex toilet and 1 shower requires you to go outside and into another building. Not a great when option on cold and rainy nights.

Very full but good facilities and staff keep it very clean

I would recommend a trip to Te Anau to anyone: it's one of my favourite places in New Zealand. The YHA is clean and comfortable with a good kitchen (although it can get very busy at peak times) and warm showers. Excellent value.

Well-run hostel in divine location

We booked this place online as Te Anau is really the last stop if your going to Milford Sound.
For the price, this place is really well set up. The location was handy and within walking distance to shops, 
rooms were clean and tidy, shared toilets, large kitchen to do your own meals and parking. 

Busy place 

Positives:Great location, clean, comfy, nice warm showers, good kitchen, cosy gas fire in the mornings in the lounge. Good value. Negatives: Quite disappointed with the bunk beds in dormitory ... every time the top person turned over the whole bed moved, causing a most disturbed sleep. I had especially looked at the pictures to make sure they were not squeaky metal bunks, and the wooden bunks looked sturdy, but were not as good as they looked. Slept better in tramping huts, which is saying something. Please brace the bunks! BYO tea bags.

Very nice cosy, clean, except for wobbly bunks

We stayed at a number of hostels during our trip and this was my personal favourite. I think it's slightly pricier than other hostels but i would pay for it. We stayed in 2 different rooms over 2 separate nights and I preferred the one that is not located in the main building. The toilet/showers are very clean and nice with hooks etc. The kitchen was very clean and well organized too. Nice cosy hangout area. The staff was extremely helpful as well when we asked for advice about seeing a doctor.

Clean and nice

Really high quality hostel. Quiet location a block from the lake, a few minutes from the Main Street.  Clean facilities, helpful staff, comfortable bed rooms and bathrooms.   We had a private room for 2. kitchen was clean.
