Fantastic place to stay for visiting lake Taupō and the Tongariro crossing. The hosts are super friendly and very knowledgeable. Best place we stayed in New Zealand with a great bed and a wonderful breakfast. We are definitely coming back here when we visit NZ again.

It was a pleasure having Barb & Mike as hosts for our “Boathouse” stay. They did more than was necessary to make sure our stay was really wonderful. They were very knowledgeable about all the sites in the area. The accommodations were very good and the location near the black sand beaches of Lake Taupo was delightful!

Above And Beyond

My teenage son and myself booked the room downstairs for a couple of nights away. While there were some small noises from upstairs, this did not impact our enjoyment. In fact Barb and Mike were lovely, helpful and full of local knowledge. We used a couple of kayaks and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The surrounding neighborhood was quiet and relaxed, the perfect spot for a getaway. I would stay there again and recommend it.

Very nice stay at the Boathouse with lovely hosts Barb & Michael.
It‘s the perfect location if you intend to do the „Tongariro Alpine Crossing“ - they provide drop-off at start and pick-up at final destination after the 6-8hr walk.
Breakfast is very delicious and they bring it to the boathouse in the morning. Also lovely Kayaking opportunities on nearby lake/river.

Short notice booking for the Tongariro Alpine crossing - Drop off / Pick Up

We were referred to Tongariro Adventures to see if they could arrange to transport us to the starting point for the crossing, and also pick us up at the end of the hike. Barb was most accommodating in arranging this drop off / pick up literally the night before the hike as we’d just got into town. We were a little apprehensive about taking on such a long hike known for being challenging, and had lots of questions. Barb was most helpful in helping us decide if we could handle it and what kit and provisions we should take to ensure we could complete the hike. As Barb was already booked to take some hikers the next morning,she checked with Mike and he kindly agreed to take us. It was a real pleasure meeting Mike. A true gentleman, most helpful and courteous, and to top it all he gave us additional tips on the terrain and parts of the hike, we should anticipate and tackle in specific ways. We had an absolutely fabulous hike, tough but exhilarating. At the end of it, there was Mike waiting for us with some nice cold drinks which were much needed after we’d drunk all our water towards the latter part of the hike. It was so great using this company for the hike. It took away all the stress of booking parking for our car and booking the shuttle. As a kind parting gesture, Mike even stopped off at the supermarket on the return drive to our hotel as we needed to pick up a few things. This saved us the chore of going out in our car once back at the hotel. Thank you so much Barb and Mike, we are most grateful and look forward to our next trip.

Short notice booking for the Tongariro Alpine crossing - Drop off / Pick Up

My friend and I stayed here for 2 nights while on our Tongariro Crossing adventure. Barb and Mike were fantastic hosts. Very friendly and welcoming. Accommodation very comfortable and felt like home.  Nothing was a problem even when we kept Mike waiting  when our walk across the Crossing took much longer than expected. Highly recommended

Highly recommend for transport to and from Tongariro Crossing, Barb and Mike are great hosts, super friendly and informative and communication was excellent especially for weather updates..beers and soft drinks on pick up were a nice touch, and door to door service. Thank you for making our wee adventure even more enjoyable.

Tongariro Crossing Shuttle

We hired a high quality kayak and paddled up the Kuratau river into wonderful serene surroundings. An easy paddle with a stop for coffee and cake at the vineyard. This is a magnificent 2 hour trip for those in the Taupo area taking you into a beautiful river where we met no-one else apart from the kingfisher and cormorants. Highly recommended!

Kayaking

Barb and Michael are very kind hosts. The place is a little bit outside of Turangi which is perfect. The breakfast is made out of fresh fruit, yoghurt, granola, toast and honey, which I like. The coffee is well done and tasty. Everything at 100% 😊!

Relaxing stay in between Tangariro National Park and Lake Taupo ...

Barb and Michael were fantastic hosts- they made us feel so welcome, shuttled us to the Tongariro crossing, made great breakfast and were lovely to chat to. Thoroughly recommend staying here- you can kayak and SUP on the lake too!
