Although the bad reviews and rundown site may give it a bad look, we had a lovely time ! Called last minute to swap to a cabin due to weather and staff happily did this for us. We were lucky to be in one of the newly renovated cabins, however the rundown cabins still looked tidy and you could clearly see management is slowly cleaning the place up :) kitchen facilities were great, so nice to not bring camping cooking gear. If you’re after somewhere flash then maybe head to a hotel, but for travellers needing somewhere cheap and tidy for a night or two this place is perfect!

Accomodating staff!

I had an enjoyable stay in this older style camp, but dont mind that as long as service is excellent and clean and tidy which it is. Very affordable too. The motorhome sites are circled with bush around each one for privacy, easy to park and get around. Nice and handy to town.

Older camp but excellent service and a place to lay your head

We arrived after hours and found our key and reservation papers waiting for us at the reception, as communicated upfront. Riza and Albert are lovely people. Even when we locked ourselves out and had to wake one of them up to get back into our hut, they were there within a minute with a smile and kind and welcoming words and solved the problem in a sec. The next day they provided us with some info about the area and even gave us a map to get us going.

We booked a budget cabin in winter. We did not leave the heater overnight so it was pretty chilly, but we preferred that to the gentle whirring of the heater. It does heat enough to be comfortable though. We did not read the info well enough and found out only upon arrival that these particular basic cabins require you to bring your own covers (only base and pillows with pillow covers provided), but we had our own anyway so all good. 

Everything about the service and the whole place shows you that this is not a chain company and for that, I would definitely return here. Yes, it´s a little outdated, but very clean and well maintained. Also, they do recycling and compost. It felt like camping back in the old days! I would recommend this place to singles, couples, families, backpackers, and Van dwellers alike.

Homely place to get away from home

Post covid19 L2 the place was empty but a great set up and clean and tidy. Lots of shade too and not far from Tokaanu Thermal Springs which is a must.Thank you Shelia. A great New world supermarket in this town too worth checking out.

Great service

There is a reason they don't post photos of the room. Had to nearly break the front door getting it to open and can see pavement through multiple cracks in the wood. Horrific carpet, graffiti on the wall, empty beer crates for tables and the room is absolutely tiny. Bed was  hard. Reminded me of a concentration camp. Left in under an hour.

Don't go here!!

We stay only one night on our way back to Auckland. The beds mattress were too soft,the sheets no very clean and the carpet wasted. 
The shower were good but old too, the same for the kitchen and dinner rooms.
At least the owners are very nice but the place needs renovation.

Dated place!

Stayed here on our way north  from Whanganui.  Had pre booked online and check in was quick and efficient.  Site was very big and lots of shade.  Amenities close but very dated. Good place for a quick stay.

Overnight  stay

At NZ$22.50 per person for an unpowered tent site its a bit on the pricey side, and the actual facilities are pretty dated to say the least. But if you can look past the peeling paint etc the showers are great where it matters, ie clean and lots of hot water. Kitchen facilities are pretty old but clean, and they provide a good range of implements. Campsites themselves are great, lots of mature trees etc, if they're not full you should be able to find a nice leafy tucked-away spot.

Great campsites, bit expensive, dated facilities

Ok - booked via the website on the move. Cheap at $57 for a twin cabin. Unfortunately the cabins were below basic ☹️. We both went to the toilet block and decided to check out. Could be ok if you had your own camping facilities although if you wanted a shower you’d need to be brave. I hate to place poor reviews but I think you look closely before booking.

Checked Straight Out....

We stayed for a night in the Park House.  It is a huge house, with multiple bedrooms, lounge rooms, large kitchen and bathroom, its own backyard and driveway.  Main bedroom and lounges were very comfortable.  It would be great for a big family and it was well priced.  As mentioned in previous comments this park is dated, due to it being a historical campground; it was however, very clean and the grounds were well maintained.
