It was truly dreadful the rooms were discusting and unsafe the room was so outdated old plates old cutlery so much rubbish in the gardens broken fans the price was so high and yet what you get just ain’t worth it 

Bad ignore the place they suck

We had a reservation for one night in the Caravan-Kitchen Unit. It is such a pleasant surprise to see that it is not just huge but also extremely clean. The surrounding area is fairly tranquil and makes for a pleasant walk through beautiful scenery. Will most certainly make another booking.

Great Place and the Caravan Experience is Fantastic

I do not suggest staying here at all. The receptionist is horrible and not helpful at all. 
We did not enjoy the stay.

We called about 8:30-9 because we were checking in late and to see what time the gate was closing at 10:30pm. The receptionist laughed and gave attitude. She did not understand our situation (had to come up late because of baby sitting issues). Family was told to come early the next day. They arrived early but the gate was closed. The old lady at reception failed to tell us the night before that there was a back gate that allowed visitors in (without the locked gate at front entrance) for after or early hour visits. 

Reception and Wifi is crap out these ways. Paid for wifi but it did not work. 

Reception/Check in area are old ladies that have attitude and are so miserable. Had to explain to the lady why myself and my family had to arrive in 4 different cars. She gave us attitude and laughed at why we came in 4 different cars. We are all from different areas of Nz and we had to explain that to her; which I thought was unnecessary. Got given attitude the entire stay from this lady. Then 4 other of my family members people had to come and explain the situation to the one dumb old lady because she still did not understand. 

Won’t be coming back to Te Paru ever again and I’ll make sure family and friends don’t come here. The staff/ owners are horrible.  

Stains in the room as attached in the photos. Rips and period stain on chairs. Gross. 

There’s a policy that states the owners are allowed to walk in the cabinet/unit whenever. This is not right. This is against the law. The owners may interfere where they think reasonable but whenever they feel like is against the law. So you might want to correct your policy. 

I must add that it is not for young people as the gates are closed early. All stores and shops are closed by 9pm. If you’re an early bird/quiet by 8pm then this place would be good for you. But overall experience for me was so bad that I don’t look at staying in Thames ever again.

AVOID THIS PLACE!!!

We had a delightful 2 night stay pre-lockdown and highly recommend Te Puru holiday park.  We stayed in a self-contained cabin, and the campground host gave us helpful recommendations on what to see in the area.  Location is great, heaps to see and do.

Great location, lovely host, relaxing stay

We arrived at the site with looking forward to staying in the cabin we had booked. We arrived at the site and were met by the owner. She complained we had booked online and she prefers people that book direct, tells us the cabin we booked was not available and tries to charge me an extra $80. After refusing to pay extra we went to our new accommodation, a 60 year old caravan with a lean too attached. Not the new build modern 'ish' cabin we had booked, we were greeted by numerous cockroaches dead and alive and a strong musty smell throughout. The shower was a small box with a 30cm wide gap as a door and the toilet was  equally narrow. The caravan had holes in the walls patched up, with the ceiling so low I could not stand up straight (including in the shower). If world war 3 breaks out and NZ is invaded, they wont even need any modifications to turn this place into a concentration camp.
Reading reviews on here and other sites it seems the cabin/chalet is advertised with some good pictures and in reality the majority of people end up with this type of accommodation, not a bad scam when they get away with it.
In summary, it just isnt worth staying here, sleepnin your car, sleep under a bridge, in a meth lab, get arrested and spend a night in jail, anything to avoid this place.

Worst place I have ever stayed

Rented a cabin for two nights.  When I arrived I found it was shabby (lino tiles lifting off the floor), dirty (generally grimy plus chewing gum on the mirror, insect/mouse poo in the cutlery drawer, cooking gear greasy).  After seeing the state of the cabin I asked for a refund and left.

Avoid this place

Terrible place to visit as a casual camper. The worst was the priority given to the permanent site holders with a party going on right next to the tent sites. Loud music and singing meaning we couldn't get our 8 year old to bed at a reasonable time. Contacted the manager and was told that whilst the noise level was unacceptable they wouldn't do anything about it until after 10.30pm. I doubt any campers got to sleep before 11pm. The same site has pulled their boat up, right next to our tent and loaded it really loudly, smashing in to the metal and yelling to each other at 5am. Again management took no action on this that we were aware of.
Then you get to the facilities which are the same as when my wife visited the site in her youth. And poorly maintained over that time. Showers were worst camp showers I have seen. Kids tramplliness x 2 were in disrepair, playground not too much better. Kitchen was ok, but have definitely seen better. 
Do not go here unless you own a permanent site. It's all about them.

Camping disaster

Stayed here again but upgraded into a chalet the room had a kitchen stove top and oven microwave etc beds were very comfortable even tho we booked for 2 ppl we could hav fit 4 or more at a squeeze as they had one double bunk with a single bunk and 2 single bunks in our rook along with shower and toilet. Campgrounds are very tidy and they have nice clean toilets in a lot of areas big thumbs up.

BEST HOLIDAY PARK

We booked the Caravan-Kitchen Unit for 1 night. Very comfortable and convenient as it was just me and my partner. Place is as clean as it could be. Kitchen fully equipped. Bring your own duvet and sheets for the bed. Toilets were 100 meters, but clean as well. Overall a beautiful set up. Not the best views as we were opposite the reception, though the beach is a short 2-3 minute walk away.
Internet was 1GB free.

Comfortable Stay in the Caravan Unit. Nice Set up.

Great spot, clean and tidy cabin, close to Thames near beach, easy to deal with manager when booking, better than one up the road who were rude glad we booked this one, will stay here again, as also recommended by a friend
