We arrived (2 adults, 4 kids on mum and daughter weekend) to find booking.com had booked us into a room that doesn’t exist( (6 bed with en-suite). Wild zebra were kind to accomodate us across 2 rooms ensuring access to an en-suite in one. 
Whilst central, the building is very run down, bed has a huge dip in it, noisey street with lots of bars, bathroom has not been adequately cleaned (bottle tops and old plasters, layer of dust on floor). Thank goodness it’s only one night!

Run down, noisy area, bathroom not clean, central location, nice & helpful reception staff

Broken plugs that sparked when using.
Smelly room.
Old heater that did not work.
Curtain not attached to rail.
Window did not open.
Holes in wall in toilet.
Broken tap in bathroom (which oddly enough was in the corridor...)
Lack of cleaning evident in bathrooms and bedrooms.

This place appears to be just a cash cow for greedy owners that do not understand the meaning of regular maintenance and cleaning who take advantage of travellers who they know will never return anyway, one good thing was the location otherwise a  real dump.

Rugby trip

You are treated differently depending on who you are : if you are a group of 5 Chinese people, you get one card for the room each, and a key for the front door, but if you are not, you get only one card for everyone and you have to knock and tell your name to enter.
If your flight to come to Wellington is cancelled and you arrive the next day, you don’t get refund, even if you call, email them, and have an insurance claim.
Staff is not friendly, don’t recommend at all

Worst hostel

Booked this place 3 months ago... Details were taken Name, CC, email all the usual rubbish.
Turn up late in the evening to find out there was no record of our booking.  More likely sold it for more money due to Rugby game that was on.
USELESS

Could have been a great place to stay???....

This place is falling apart and should be closed. There are numerous holes in the walls (presumably from being punched), things (e.g. doors) are broken, and sinks and toilets out of order. My bed was fine - the linen did appear clean, but there were only three plug outlets in the room. I arrived late at around midnight and there was a person repeatedly playing a song loudly in the hallway outside my room. I asked a staff member who was cleaning the bathroom to ask them to turn it down but the person had turned the volume back up by the time the staff member returned to the bathroom area -  not that they cared. In saying that, the 'bathroom' on the floor I stayed on was one of three sinks in order, showers, and one working toilet in the hallway (i.e. no separation between hallway and bathroom). The staff members did not give me any information about the facilities until I asked, and even this was minimal, as they didn't seem very happy. I would NOT recommend staying here and am relieved I was only here for one night.

Decrepit and Dirty

I have been staying in wild zebra backpackers for a week now and there wasn't a problem apart from the very unclean rooms, disgusting showers, and smelly carpets aha but when going to extend I asked for the same room so me and my friend could stay together, when going to check in it was made to be in a different room even tho I had requested to stay in the same room. When going up to the room none of the beds were made apart from one even tho me and my friend have booked out two beds in the nicer room and paid for the nicer room too!!! I wish I had never paid and definitely won't be staying here again!!

Very unpleasant

Stayed here before catching the ferry to the South Island. The room was okay and the shower down the hall was reasonable.  Very very warm in the room could do with a fan or air-conditioner.  It is a Backpackers after all so it is what it is.  The building was reasonably clean though it could do with some attention especially the floors on the 1st floor as they were "sticky" to walk....keep your shoes on here.  This place served it's purpose but wouldn't stay again if we could help it.

" Been In Worse Places"

This place is absolutely disgusting.. The paint is flaking off the walls and I’d say it hasn’t been cleaned in years, on the floor we stayed on there was 1 toilet and 2 showers shared between the whole floor which possibly accommodated upwards of 200 people. We arrived at 11.45pm and the we unable to check us in until 12.40 due to computer issues. At that time of night just take our money and let us into the room. Then we were told the lift wasn’t working and we’d have to carry our 30kg bags up 5 floors. It’s disgusting it’s filthy it should be condemned

Avoid at all costs

Even though it is cheap it shouldn’t look like it did here! The entire place was gross! The floor had obviously not been cleaned and the toilets were rank. I did not unpack anything as I didn’t want  my stuff to tough anything! There was no soap in the bathrooms for the first 24h of my stay which was just rank. I did not feel safe as there were people that were not supposed to be there and that had to be thrown out! Book this place if you have no intentions of spending any time there unless sleeping! 

Cheap but gross

Paid for a double room with en-suite bathroom. It was also “en-suite” to all the other bathrooms - and the laundry room with machines starting running at half past midnight. Very noisy! The room was run down and dingy. Towels were not included and we had to pay extra per towel - even though we paid for a private double with bathroom.  The WiFi didn’t work, it wasn’t even possible to connect. Check in took forever. Don’t stay here.
