Arrived at the house in the evening. We booked 2 hours prior very last minute due to a mix up and double booking at our precooked hotel. The street was horrible, terribly poor. Her house in particular was badly maintained. She was on the phone arguing with booking.com over some fee she had payed. She gestured with her hand for us to stay at the door. We waited until she finished the conversation and let us see the room. It was the tiniest room where 2 single beds could be squeezed in. The beds were very small, the matrassen super thin. It looked very old and uncomfortable. A super tiny room in her own house for 146 nzd or 86 euros. She wanted the money in cash. She looked at us and asked if we didn’t want to get a larger nicer room, we only needed to pay more money. We told her we were not interested. She was pushing and intimidating in her voice. I did not feel safe and did not want to stay there anymore. Luckily my boyfriend was with me. I told her that we wanted to cancel as the room was not as expected based on the booking.com pictures. She kept pushing us, but finally accepted the cancellation. The next day she tried to get the booking money through booking.com from us anyways. By the way, the name of the hotel at booking.com is a bit different, but same address: Parkington Ensuite Homestay. Scammer, don’t go!

Michelle, or host, was more than welcoming and gave us good ideas about the area. The bedroom, complete with separate bathroom was very comfortable although a little basic. The shower room was nice and more than adequate and a tv was provided in the room. Tea and coffee could be made in the main kitchen downstairs at anytime which was where breakfast was served in the morning. Breakfast consisted of cereal, toast, fresh fruit salad and yogurt and was plentiful. On the whole,  this place was good value for money and it was a very pleasant stay 

Clean comfy but fairly basic room, but a lovely host

Michelle was a very good and friendly host,full of information. Rooms were comfortable and clean. Able to walk into the main high street within 5 minutes for restaurants/cafes and other services. Would stay here again if visiting  the area.

Good stay

Michelle is an excellent host who goes over and beyond to make sure you have the best experience possible in Westport, a quaint little town where the shops tend to close a bit early but the exhilarating waves of the West Coast are right around the corner (bonus tip: amazing seal colony within a stone's throw from the BnB, worth the 10min drive!)

Michelle has turned this house into a lovely guesthouse - the upstairs has warm, cosy rooms (perfect for couples and solo travellers) which are private, clean and well furnished. We saw the downstairs rooms and they are perfect for a family with kids and also very private. Loads of secure parking off-road. Bathrooms are clean, renovated to a high, modern standard and has heating (which works great) - amazing after a day of adventuring (and there is a lot of adventuring to be done in the area). 

Most of all, Michelle made us feel so comfortable, welcomed and at home, which made our visit to Westport very special.

What is it now we wondered. Pakington Homestay B&B or Pakington House B&B?
We are confused.

What shall we say about Michelle, the keeper. She is great. Funny, friendly and whitty, talkative and informative.

The B&B itself then.

Environment: residential area. Empty quiet side street. 5-10 minutes walk to shops & some restaurants. Opening times restaurants vary. One had a sign saying 'open till late' but we were at 7.45 p.m. only just in time. Shops all closed by 5.30 p.m. Perhaps even earlier.

Parking: enough space and the street is empty too. On certain booking sites it said 'secured parking'. It is on Pakington's property with a wall around it but not a gate with a lock.

On some sites it also said 'laundry facilities'. That fooled me. There aren't any. In fact Michelle seemed somewhat puzzled about what to do with my request about doing a wash. She offered me to use her machine. I didn't want to discomfort her so I opted out.

The room: we had a queen and the room, although nice and cozy, is fairly small. One chair, drawer, bed and two bedside tables. 
Hardly any space for two suitcases and other travelers' things like rucksacks and coats/jackets.

Although there are electric blankets the room is cold, no heating. There is heating in the bathroom though.

We stayed two nights but the bed did not get made up. The bed by the way is lovely and comfortable. Pillows and covers: all great.

The bathroom: we don't need clean towels every day but clean flanels we do like. Cos nobody came into the (bath)room the flanels we left on the  floor to be replaced didn't get noticed. 
Toiletries: soapdispenser by basin and shampoo dispenser in shower.

Breakfast: cereal (various types) with yoghurt, fruit salade, coffee/tea, toast with butter jam/marmelade/peanut butter.
During our first breakfast Michelle left. The next round of toast and coffee we prepared ourselves. We tidied the table and put things back in the fridge.

The second morning Michelle was there but we were still doing our own coffee and toast. Michelle helped if needed so it was sort of a joint venture. 

All in all this place is not bad at all but maybe our expectations were to high. It is a 'Homestay'. Maybe that is not quite like the B&B's we are used to, where there is more choice for (cooked) breakfast and generally more luxury, space and service.

We didn't see on booking.com that it is 'Pakington Homestay B&B. We booked it as 'Pakington House B&B'. 

Perhaps that is where our confusion  came from.



Fine if this is what you want

The owner was so friendly and helpful. The house has been renovated to a high standard - lovely bed coverings and everything was clean and tidy. The breakfast was great. It is handy to the shops and restaurants.

Great stay!

We were warmly welcomed by the effervescent owner Michelle, full of information, humour and genuine interest to make our stay comfortable and visit to the area's wilderness fulfilling.  The beds were so very cozy, bathrooms clean and the kitchen full of whatever you needed. Breakfast filling and healthy with many choices.

Warm Welcome in Westport

Such a beautiful home. Best night of sleep we had in a long time. Clean, comfortable and with great Wifi.

The owner goes above and beyond to make your stay perfect. She provides with great recommendations.

The place has plenty of parking space and is close to downtown Westport (10 minutes walk).

Lovely place with a great host.

Westport itself is nice and quaint. But it wasn't Westport that was responsible for such an incredible stay...it was the cleanliness of the comfy, spacious rooms and the genuinely fantastic hospitality.

THE BEST PLACE TO STAY IN WESTPORT

We felt like home!! Apart from the cute rooms and other great facilities, Michelle, the owner, is the best!!! She is one of a kind and made our honeymoon very special!!! She went greatly out of her way to make everyone feel comfortable and home. She is the most funny and warm loving person and she will make your days.
Since we didn’t have a car she even drove us to some beautiful places in the area and we were able to see the great nature around. This is not just any B&B, this house is filled with passion, love and fun!!

Overall, Pakington House is a pretty B&B. It’s in walking distance to the main street. It has three rooms in different sizes with ensuite bathrooms. You have your privacy but the commonly used kitchen and living room make people meet which we loved. There is a nice breakfast every morning. 

Definitely go!!!
