Fantastic room, location, breakfast and host. One of the best ever BnBs we have stayed at (and we have been at dozens!!) Greg is a great host with excellent recommendations for things to do and places to eat. Of course the breakfast that was served by Greg was excellent and you only needed a small lunch after that. Great Bed and Breakfast in Waihi Beach

We spent two nights in the studio apartment, which was very comfortable and spacious, had kitchen facilities although we had a superb breakfast cooked each morning, out on the terrace with other residents. Greg, the owner, was very friendly and helpful, and spent time with the guests recommending where to go locally and what to see.  On his recommendation we ate twice at Flat White restaurant - informal and lovely food and wine -perfect, overlooking the beach and ocean.  There wasn't much else open in the way of dining so we were happy to have the recommendation.Service and cleanliness were great, and location was perfect, literally only a few steps from the magnificent beach. 

Great place to stay

After spending 6 days in January in our lovely accomodation and with our wonderful host Greg, it was not easy to leave Waihi Beach. We loved that it was only 150 meters to the beach and that the surroundings gave many opportunities for hikes. 
Greg is a lovely host and also a great cook! We much appreciated his breakfasts as well as our conversations. He also recommended great places to visit.
 We highly recommend you to stay at this lodge and we hope to meet Greg again!

Wonderful lodge in Waihi Beach

It was hard to leave this special place which was our home for 6 days. Hikes, fish and chips, dinners at Flat White, happy hour on the beach, and sunrise on the south Pacific were wonderful moments to remember. Greg, our kind and knowledgeable host, made it extra special and we hope to return next year.  Be well Greg until we meet again!

Wonderful Getaway

We stayed as guests of Greg, the owner, in March, just before the great lockdown! Our booking was “blind” based purely on the fact we would be close to a beach, and the reviews for Waihi Beach Lodge seemed good. They were not wrong! 

The room was large, comfortable, private and just 150 metres from the beach, where the sunrise was quite spectacular. Fish and Chips on the beach in the evening, with a bottle of Chardonnay, is also a treat to enjoy.

Greg is a wonderful host, cooks great breakfasts, and we enjoyed our conversations with him over bacon and eggs. He can also recommend great places to visit and eat during the day. 

I highly recommend this place. My only “warning” is the Lodge is not within walking distance of the town and bars (probably a 2-3km drive) so we were quite happy stocking up during the day and “self catering” in the evenings, but others may prefer to be in walking distance of places to eat and drink.

If you like peace, tranquility, and proximity to a near-deserted beach with safe swimming, you will love this place.

A jewel in Waihi Beach

We stayed two nights and loved it.  Very relaxing, an easy walk to the beach and delicious breakfast both mornings.  We were also left with a little treat in our room after returning from the beach as well as a parting treat to enjoy during our travels.  The rooms are very clean and well kept.  Greg, the owners, is such a delight and a wealth of knowledge for your travels.

Wonderful Host & relaxing stay

Stayed for 4 nights,  the location is superb, an easy short stroll to the amazing beach. The rooms are very clean, soacious, well appointed and comfortable,  with good beds.  

Greg is a lovely host,  very helpful and friendly and makes great breakfasts, tailored to what ever combination you fancy!.

Great place,  great host

We stayed at the Waihi Beach Lodge for 2 nights mid February and Greg the owner couldn’t have made us more welcome. Plenty of Tea/ Coffee and water in our bedroom waiting for us. There were also a few treats. When we got back from our day out today 2 home made flapjacks we’re waiting for us to have with a cup of tea. The bedrooms are very comfortable and our breakfasts are delicious and filling. My husband and I would definitely come back sometime.

We had had a long drive here from Paihia, although we went off the beaten track a little as we wanted to drive through the Karangahake Gorge en route, but we eventually arrived here to a warm welcome from Greg. This is a lovely property and our room was spacious and comfortable (Matakana Queen Room). Having made ourselves at home we took a short stroll across to the stunning beach just across the road - it was paradise! We later drove up into the small town for cold drinks and enormous burgers (first of the holiday) before heading back for an early night. We had thought about exploring the following day but decided that as we had been on the move for 10 days already we would just relax on that beautiful beach. After a great breakfast, chatting with Ali and Greg and the other guests we headed for the beach - Beach towels, beach mats and a parasol were provided for us and it was so good to relax and this idyllic spot. We took a break and drove up to the town again for coffees and cakes. 
It was actually Valentines Day and I had been in touch with Greg before we left the UK asking him to recommend a good restaurant for us - he kindly booked us a table at FlatWhite, right on the beach, and it was brilliant
After another brilliant breakfast it was time to move on to our next destination 
Staying chez Greg  and Ali was a most enjoyable experience and I would heartily recommend this establishment

Comfortable and relaxed stay

We stayed here for 2 nights and it was fantastic! Clean and comfortable and completely fabulous! It's across the road from a beautiful beach. Greg the lovely and accommodating host provides beach towels and a beach bag. There's an outside shower to rinse off your surfboard. Great toiletries. Even bathrobes! We stayed in the Marlin room which was roomy with a king size bed. Great in room coffee. But the best part was the breakfast. Served on the upstairs balcony with the most divine view. Pancakes with banana and crispy bacon and maple syrup! Heavenly! Great croissants as well .The baking fairy leaves surprises in your room too. Greg has great local knowledge. He recommended Athenree Hot Pools and they were so relaxing. Greg is a gracious, knowledgeable, friendly, helpful host. Waihi Beach Lodge is NOT to be missed!
