5th visit, still the best place we have ever been and worth the slight hassle to get there from the UK.  This is such a special place.  The private beach is beautiful, I can never tire of it.  The lodges are all goregous, you feel like you are in the middle of the jungle, with stunning views.  The staff are kind, thoughtful and fun, and the food and drink delicious.  Sustainability is at the heart of the business. Already planning visit 6 next year.  Thank you Morgans Rock See you very Soon!  Rebecca and Tabatha x 

5th Visit and 6th Visit being planned….. best place on earth 

My family and I stayed in a 2 bedroom villa for 4 nights.  The villa was spacious, well done and provided excellent views.  The monkeys playing in the trees and howling in the morning were an added bonus.  The beach was beautiful and clean.  Meals were delicious and the service was on point. I had a massage and the experience was nice. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and enjoyed all of the interesting aspects of staying at an eco lodge.

My husband and I are at Morgan’s Rock right now and we love it!  It opened in 2004 and this is our 14th or 15th visit. Our last visit was in 2018, so it had been a while and we were hoping it was still the awesome place we remember. It definitely is!  

I honestly can’t understand the complaints about the food. We have been blown away by how good it is. There’s nothing else around, so we eat three meals a day here and therefore signed up for a meal plan.  The menu is not vast, which is understandable, considering how far the food has to be transported, and how few guests are here. The prices are not high and the food quality is incredibly good. My husband had a burger for lunch, and I had a “trio of tacos” (shrimp, steak, and chicken) and both meals were fantastic. Last night for dinner. my husband had lamb chimichurri and I had a beautiful piece of fish. It could not have been better. Prior reviews about the food should be ignored in my opinion.

The bungalows are as beautiful as ever, as are the beach and the pool. The drive to get here is a little bit long and bumpy, but so worth it.  We also enjoy the drive for the view it gives of Nicaragua, and we like to stop in Rivas for a cold drink and a quick break en route.

This review would not be complete without a comment about the wonderful staff here. Everyone is friendly and polite, from the folks at reception to the housekeepers to the wait staff to the grounds keepers. Some speak pretty good English, but definitely not all. But that’s part of the fun of traveling to a different country, right?  Many thanks to everyone we met at Morgan’s Rock who made our stay this time as memorable as all of our prior stays.

I can’t recommend Morgan’s rock more highly. It is a unique place in the world, and in our opinion, there’s really nothing quite like it anywhere else.

We love Morgan’s Rock!

what a place.  We had a Ocean View bungalow and the views did not disappoint.  The bungalow had a huge double bed and my friend slept on the sofa bed which was very comfortable.  The balcony had a swing double bed and every night we would watch the sun go down.  Magical

The staff were great .   Breakfast was fantastic with plenty of choice.  Dinner was also very tasty and top marks to the chef who produced great, tasty food every night .  We stayed 6 nights and ate lobster for 3 of those nights.  The best I have ever eaten.  Thank you to the people working in the restaurant for being so lovely and so good at your jobs.

The beach is spectacular and that is where we spent most of our time.  Do swim in the sea, very safe and jaw dropping beautiful

A few small things would make Morgans Rock even better

1). For the price of the rooms I would include a free tour, especially for those with small children.  A night tour or a guided nature tour for a couple of hours would be great

2). I would have a happy hour on the beach to cover sunset.

3). I cannot fault the staff but the cocktails were somewhat in consistent.  Sometimes in a small glass, sometimes in a large glass.  Sometimes you can taste the alcohol other times you feel you have been given a soft drink.  Maybe a little training would be useful

Overall though it is a fantastic place

Paradise on earth

We arrived at Morgan's Rock with huge hopes. The photos on the website are amazing and it looked very promising by all accounts. It is a long and bumpy ride to the hotel which is hidden at the edge of lush jungle in Nicaragua. The setting is phenomenal and the hotel could do some small things to make it world class.

A lot of the staff do not speak great English. Our food orders often came wrong, incomplete or not at all. The food was really dismal, not great choice and invariably not very tasty. Particularly given the cost of staying at this hotel.

There was an expensive buffet one evening and we all went up to have salad first as a starter and then again for the main course and we were told that we couldn't go up twice even though we had explained what we had done. Luckily I explained to Janley and he sorted it out, but it was really not a great experience. 

The bedrooms were lovely - well appointed, great air con system over the beds and lovely indoor and outdoor showers. The views from the bungalows are stunning and the little plunge pools were very nice.

The beach is beautiful and Luis the brilliant waiter couldn't have been more attentive at getting us cocktails all day long! 

It's a shame the food and service is so poor on the whole, otherwise it would be a great hotel. 



Disappointing. Almost very good.

Excellent from A to Z . The setting , the rooms the facilities all first rate but the staff is exceptional - really exceptional and always happy to go above and beyond . Fantastic beach , wonderful wildlife , many steps to the rooms but the views are magical …..and then the food ! Fresh and delicious and the chef is really flexible - you ask and he delivers again and again - to a world class standard

Outstandingly good !

Had the most amazing time at Morgan’s Rock. Perfect place to disconnect, unwind. Staff is kind and friendly. Food was really good. You feel like you have your own private beach even if there are a few other families there. Took a beautiful sunset hike with Harvy. My sons also did a horse back riding tour with him. We went to their local farm for breakfast, collected eggs, milked a cow and made tortillas at the farm. On the way home there were howler and spider monkey sightings. The rooms were really amazing. All sustainable. The most creative air conditioning over the beds to help you sleep well. Views are gorgeous as are the sunsets. Lots of walking and stone stairs as you are nestled in the jungle but you get used to it.  Bring beach bag or tote as the hotel did not have for some reason. Massages were amazing. Both therapists were great. Hammocks and shaded cabanas on the beach. Always a staff member around to help with anything you need. Only advice is to skip lunch in San Juan Del Sur but head sttaight to the Cristo statue for amazing views. Not much else to do outside the property so 3-4 nights is plenty. We didnt manage to fit in a volcano day trip but hear those are great too - just more driving.  Getting in and out of Nicaragua is a bit tricky. The land border crossing is cumbersome as you get in and out your car several times, passport checks are numerous. Do not arrive to Nicaragua late in evening. One person at border and even 1-2 ppl will have you waiting too long to show papers. Hire good driving company to get you in and out easily.  Morgans Rock was a delight and if you can wrap your head around the border crossing, you land in paradise for a few days and its suddenly all worth the hassle. Authentic Luxury Eco Lodge experience

This is our 4th visit to Morgans Rock and each time as we leave we are just planning when to come back.  This time we stayed for 16 days!  It was just lovely.  The food is amazing, and the staff in the restaurant so kind and always trying to work out what we would like to eat.  The  rooms are fantastic with this clever air cooling thing over the beds so you are never hot.  The beach is beautiful.  We went for some great walks around the property and saw sloths and monkeys.  In fact you are woken up each morning by the sound of howler monkeys.   We can't thank the wonderful team there enough for giving us the most amazing special holiday.  Thank you.

Best place in the world

Our stay at Morgan’s rock was perfect from start to finish. We had an ocean view room with a plunge pool and it was just beautiful, really spacious and clean. It reminded us of a safari lodge the way it is styled and doesn’t have glass windows only mesh so you really feel like you are in the jungle but also in luxury!  The property itself is 4000 acres! and has jungle, farm and a huge private beach so there is lots to explore and activities to do. We did the monkey and sloth quest and loved driving round the property spotting monkeys and a sloth.
The staff were brilliant and so friendly before and during our stay, especially Franklin and Harvy. The restaurant staff were also lovely and we really enjoyed all the food we had there, it was a really high standard. 
It is an expensive place but we really think it was worth it for the experience, we will not forget it!

A special experience, we are so glad we stayed at Morgan’s rock

If you are thinking about going to Nicaragua and Morgan’s Rock, I would recommend it.  They offer a unique experience and are definitely off the beaten path. This resort is unlike anywhere  we’ve ever stayed. It’s on 4,000 acres that encompasses both a jungle and a beach. There is a suspension bridge that goes to most of the bungalows, and lots and lots of steps – which meant we didn’t feel as guilty enjoying the delicious meals we had.  Be warned that there is no nightlife and not really any sort of activity after dinner other than listening to nature and relaxing.

Our bungalow came with a plunge pool which overlooked the property and had spectacular views. We really enjoyed the swinging bed on our terrace and even spotted monkeys from there on our last day! The beach was gorgeous and pretty secluded. There is a beach bar, and kayaks & paddleboards are available to use either in the ocean or in the estuary. There were multiple palapas and hammocks to chose from; it was very peaceful. 

Morgan’s Rock offers many excursions and one of our highlights was the monkey and sloth quest. The description on the website didn’t do it justice. We were in a flat-bed pickup truck with bench seats so we were able to see the wildlife. Our driver and guide were fantastic and both pointed out 3-4 types of monkeys as well as a few sloths. The trip included a stop at an overlook area which had great views of the landscape and volcanoes. We went on a day trip to Grenada which included a boat trip in Lake Nicaragua.  There are many, many small islands dotted along the area we were in. We had an authentic lunch in old town and then stopped at a volcano. Another excursion was to San Juan Del Ser, which we really enjoyed. We went by boat and saw a lot of the coastline. We walked around town, had a few beers at the brewery and ate lunch at a local restaurant which was right on the beach!

The food at Morgan Rock’s was wonderful, although not a lot of variety if your are there for a longer stay; we were glad to have a couple of lunches off-site just for a change of pace. Many of the ingredients were very fresh as they grow their own fruits and vegetables and raise chickens on the property. We ate freshly caught lobster one day and also tried the octopus and fish of the day. And breakfast was consistently delicious every day. The dining area is open-air and overlooks the pool and ocean. They have a full bar and an adequate wine list. The service was top-notch.

We were concerned with the border crossing at Penas Blancas, but the folks from Morgan’s Rock took care of everything for us and this made the transition smooth. Someone picked us up from the airport in Liberia, another person met us at the border and helped us through customs and immigration, and a driver met us at the other side and took us to the resort. They also assisted with our arrangements traveling back to Costa Rica.

The staff is friendly and went above and beyond to make our stay enjoyable. Our trip was a nice combination of relaxing on the beach or in our “treehouse” terrace and hiking and sightseeing. We had an incredible time!
