I was last January 2019 in Nicaragua and the area of San Juan del Sur I especially liked the beaches that are a few kilometers away uncontaminated and deserted. The hostel is right in the center a few steps from the beach, there were few customers in fact in the dormitory of 6 people that I had booked there was only me. Breakfast included and staff available.

Too bad there is no tourism.

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT:
Don’t buy shuttle tickets from here to Costa Rica, it’s a scam. 
We booked and paid for a shuttle to La Fortuna a few days before and they were very helpfully and friendly, however we should have trusted our gut based on how casual they were about it all. We were told that the “shuttle” would involve a private car to the border, and from there we would take a Shuttle bus to our destination. 

All was going to plan as the driver met us, drove us to the border, dropped us off to the Tica Bus Employees (they were in the correct uniforms, however really not sure if they were legitimate or not) who escorted us through the border process out of Nicaragua. Once we were out however and could not turn back, they proceeded to tell us that the bus was full and that we would have to find our own way from here. After much back and forth they refunded us $20 of the $70USD we had paid and we had to figure the rest of our journey out ourselves. 

As it was a Sunday we already knew that it would be hard to get to La Fortuna which is why we booked a shuttle. We ended up getting a lift to Liberia with some friendly travelers with a car, from there a local bus to Canas and then an $80US taxi to our destination. 

Save yourself a lot of effort and just book a shuttle with Caribe or a ticket directly with Tica. Don’t book through this hostel.

The worst reception of my life.

The hostel's location is very nice.The kitchen is very small and the breakfast served and the treatment of the breakfast manager are quite desirable.The double rooms have a bed, a mirror and a little more.We didn't have a sheet.To climb to the rooms above you have to climb stairs that aren't very nice.In general, the hostel needs an upgrade.

Nothing is cozy.

My wife and I were staying elsewhere in del Sur, but we both were impressed to get a 90 minute lesson together from William at a beach south of town, Remanso beach, two surfboard rentals, and a ride there and back for $50 US. My vacation is complete now that I've started a lifelong goal of learning to surf. 

Surf dream hobby started.

This Hostel is if you want to party, but even then you have much nicer hostels that are the same price. It has a good location, but it didn't feel safe at all. It also is really small, the rooms were really small, the eating area was small and not nice. 

 Not nice at all

The location is good, but once i was there i realized that i`ve made a mistake, even that is new i realized that is mainly a party hostel, and they were no regulations about the times that people has to respect other`s people rest, so we had a group of guys outside our room drinking, playing music, and talking too loud until 4.a.m, at the sime time we were scratching our skin , in the beggining we thought that they were mosquitoes, but the bites were too big, so they were bed bugs, also when we complained the man on the desk seemed annoyed and did not want to know much about it, we took our stuffs and we left the place for good, the only good thing is that some volunteers were nice at us but also they were complaining about the same thing.

Noise-Rudeness-Bed bugs

The people in charge of the place are not friendly or attentive, they say that you can pay by card but the person in charge didn't know how to charge, so we had to share the bathroom and they never took out the trash bag so the toilet paper was about to go out everywhere.
