The breakfast was delicious, the bed was very comfortable and the view of the ocean and mountains were spectacular. The woman who runs this hotel was as cold as the Norwegian weather. She refused to shake my mother's hand upon meeting. The owner hired a taxi for 11am on the day we checked out and stated at 10:48, that it was 11am and walked into our hotel room and demanded the room key.  That was difficult to process because she had mentioned at morning breakfast that we need to leave the room key in the door lock to our room. She refused to leave our room until we handed her the key. The owner lied to us about the taxi driver having another call and being inpatient. She said we were late, when in fact we got in the taxi at exactly 11AM and the driver didn't have another call. This was my second time traveling in Norway. My first experience was up and down the coast through the Hurtigruten M/S Lofoten. I made so many friends from Norway that I keep in touch with today.  I understand me as an American have different views culturally, intellectually, and politically, not to discount similarities of friendly relations based on democratic values, mutual respect and the absolute love of mountains and ocean ~ nature.  Treat people how you want to be treated.

You catch more flies with honey than with vinegar

Alta is a town that is difficult to reach in winter, so it is good to make reservations as late as possible to get a refund without penalty. Accommodation owners and tour operators will take your money and not refund you even if you prove that you didn't arrive in Alta due to weather (cancelled planes or planes that were unable to land).
I am writing this review in order to express utter disappointment with booking.com. They are a company with a reputation, so I would have expected some degree of customer service. This was really not the case. An awful experience which will lead me to never again use their services. Disappointing, would not recommend.
We had a booking for a few nights for an accommodation in Alta. However, we were travelling from Tromso and the airline cancelled the first flight. Then the second flight for which we were scheduled departed from Tromso, but couldn’t land in Alta due to weather conditions.
Due to this, we couldn’t make it to Alta in time. We tried to cancel with the location directly, but we were told that we didn’t meet the cancellation deadline. Then we reached out to booking.com as they are an intermediary and would expect them to help facilitate in such situation. However, after emailing and speaking with several people, we were told nothing could be done.
Cancelation policies are meant to protect accommodations from abuse, but this was truly not the case. We made all possible efforts to make it to Alta and the circumstances were not in our control, the cancellation policy.

WORST EXPERIENCE EVER

Very cosy and clean little hotel with great view to sea. Friendly lady of the house was taken care of us and giving good restaurant tips. Couldn’t wait for more. Some stairs, so with any disabilities might be unreachable. Breakfast was also something else than in big Scandic-type hotels.

Cosyness by the sea!

Nice, very well equipped and spacy room. With recliners, one with massage. 
Perfect view from our room at the fjord side of the building. Large, nice bathroom, and good sleeping quality. Breakfast over expectations. 
And perfect service from staff. Recommend!

Probably best in Town

I did not see the room  not even the lobby . hotel was closed although I advised about late arrival and when I called them they did not moved but kept the money.
I strongly recommend to stay far away from this place

We stayed in the hotel for one night and we just fell in love with the place!The interior is so cosy and the breakfast was outstanding!
I wish we could have had dinner at the hotel bit it was unfortunately closed during the weekend.I highly recommend this gem if you ever need a place to stay in Alta🇳🇴❤️

A hidden gem in Alta

Beautiful hotel by the sea. Room was really nice, bed was excellent. We had the sea view room and it was really worth the little extra cost. Restaurant/breakfast area is really cosy, breakfast was plenty. We arrived too late to eat at the hotel in the evening (kitchen closed at 7 pm), but we got really good instructions and walked 10min to the city centre. Very nice restaurants!  Hotel staff was very helpful, we really enjoyed our stay ❤️

MUST SEE PICTURES!

This is a GEM in Alta! I ended up here because the other main hotels were full with guests, and boy was I glad! This hotel is a little outside of the main city center, but not so far that you can't walk there if you want to. But by staying a little outside, you get a good night sleep because it's a quiet place. 

The hotel is filled with small stuff and has gotten charm written all over it. Just look at the pictures I've taken, it should be more than enough to want to go visit the place.
The rooms seems to have been small apartments back in the days, but that's OK. The rooms are at a nice size and have a small kitchen. 

The hotel also have a sauna for you if you want that. 
The breakfast is great, with lots of different stuff.

I rarely give full score, and of course there are some minor stuff that weren't great, but they were small, and this place is such a nice hotel and so different from the main ones, that it deserves a 5 star!

I did not eat here other than breakfast, but rumors has it that they also have great food. So try it!

Wonderful!

The hotel/guest house was beautifully decorated and gave a cozy feeling. The room was comfortable and clean with ample space for two people.
Breakfast was good with usual eggs, salad bar, cheese, juice and coffee. The lady owner was really helpful during our trip there.
