 · The Haukeland Hotel was a very welcoming and supportive hotel about 15 mins from downtown Bergen on the local bus. A great location in lovely surroundings. It is adjacent to the major hospital in Bergen. So it is a place where patients and their families stay for long term treatments from the surrounding district. So it was a place which really cared got it’s guests.  The hotel provided an excellent breakfast, staff were very helpful. The room was lovely, very comfy bed with. Beautiful bed linen and pillows. Large bathroom which catered for Pelops with disabilities. . The greatest feature was you could sleep with the window open- so not a an overheated bedroom!  The reception staff were vry helpful. There was a luggage room too.  We would definitely go back there. It was excellent value fit the money.  Lovely setting outside!

Hotel with a heart!

I visited here in August of 2017.  Haukeland Hotell is located at a hospital just outside of the City Center of Bergen.  It's kind of weird place, in that when you enter, there are guests intermingling with hospital patients who are able to go and visit with their families who are staying there to see them.  It smells a bit like a hospital, too.  The food at the hotel restaurant was OK, but nothing special.  The view towards the valley is nice, and the floors are heated, which was a nice feature.

Hospital hotel

Peculiar hotel because the hotel accomodation is inside a hospital, something which is particlarly noticeable in the restaurant, where space is shared by hotel residents and patients. Personally I found that interesting. The hotel is in a suburb and it takes a 20 minutes ride to the city center.

Hotel with a unique concept

Don't take any notice of the comments about this being a hospital hotel. It is barely noticeable. The hotel operates entirely as a normal hotel and is not even on the same site as the hospital! The only thing you notice is a few folk on zimmer frames but there are many other guests staying who are in excellent health. It is a little outside the centre of town but that makes it beautifully quiet and it is still easily reached in about 7 minutes by public transport (choice of bus or tram). Buy your tickets for this in Narvesen newsagents otherwise the bus driver will try to charge you a lot more if you buy them in the bus (I know - mean and unfair!!). Excellent choice of foods for breakfast in the hotel. Maybe just add in some white bread. It was all brown without exception! Rooms are slightly sparse but totally adequate and, being a hospital hotel, supremely clean! Good bathroom with lovely new spacious shower. Also very helpful and friendly reception staff, especially Ingrid, who assisted me wtih a few minor things I needed. Only one negative - wifi is only available in the lobby, which surprised me. It was good and fast but it is rather old-fashioned these days to not have it in the rooms. Not sure why this was and I think this could be addressed. Otherwise a perfectly good base, and let's face it, in a city as lovely as Bergen you are not going to be in your room much!

Excellent base at a reasonable price in an expensive city!

It's a little outside the city centre, about 3 km. The hotel is linked with a hospital, so I wouldn't recommend it for tourists. The rooms are nice though, and the breakfast is also good. I would only recommend this for people who have to be close to the hospital. Also only wifi in the lobby.
