We stayed here last August but totally forgot to write a review after our stay.  We stayed at Balsnes Gard for one night and had an amazing stay.  The property is stunning in every way, having been painstakingly restored by the owners.  Geir and his family could not be more friendly, we had such a wonderful time at this hotel.  We'd highly recommend the nearby hike with a great view (Geir can recommend, forget exactly what the trail was called).  The dinner we had was absolutely fantastic, one of the best meals of our trip!  (And a great value, though by no means cheap [nothing is in Norway!] compared to some of the other meals during our time in Norway).  In short, we highly recommend this hotel and it is absolutely worth the slight detour off the beaten path!

Beautifully renovated farmhouse run by a couple who couldn't possibly be any more welcoming and accommodating. The rooms are quaint but well appointed. Comfortable beds and bath. Three course gourmet dinner with beer or wine pairing (Geir is a beer Master/sommelier) was a definite highlight.  Yes it's off the beaten path, but you're not going to find this memorable experience and setting in the city. My wife and I along with our 2 young adult children loved our stay.

This was our first visit to Norway.  We spent 2 days at Balsnes farm as we toured the Nordfjord area.  The hosts, Geir and Terese were friendly, gracious, and very helpful answering our endless questions about what to see in Norway (including directions and a map for an exceptional hike and advice about where to see Puffins!)  Balsnes Farm is perfect -- personal, relaxing, and comfortable in every way.  The food was fantastic -- and even though one of our party has significant dietary restrictions, Terese made an extra effort to ensure that his meals were every bit as good as the meals that she made for the rest of our party.   This extra effort and care was so greatly appreciated!   We can't wait to return...  and highly recommend Balsnes Gard.  Geir and Terese, thank you for a wonderful experience!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Balsnes farm!  The owners, Geir and Teresa, were the perfect hosts: so friendly, personable,  took care of us very well & made us feel right at home!  We loved all our little conversations with them!   They presented us with beautiful and tasty food for breakfasts and dinners, and even packed a lunch for us.  This farm was the perfect slice of Norway for us! My husband even got to feed the lamb!  And we went to sleep on a super comfortable bed, with the cow bells ringing quietly in the distance!  It was a treat to stay at such a small, personal place!!  If you are looking for a unique, and very comfortable, pleasant, beautiful place to stay, with excellent food, this is it!  Thank you, Geir and Teresa!  We treasure the memories!  :)

Fantastic Stay!

A gem!

Outstanding experience

Wonderful stay!

First of all let me say that I don't like to give comments like this, certainly because the hosts are very nice; but we have been travelling for 15 days in Norway and that of all the hotels and gards we reserved this was the only one who really gave us a bitter aftertaste.
I don't understand that nobody gave comment on the price before.
The positive things are that the family with 3 little kids are really very friendly and that the room is just wonderful decorated and has very comfy beds and a very good shower. Big terrace with view on the pastures.
The location however is in the middle of nowhere, up the mountain. Without a car you cant' do anything over here. The gard is located between pastures with cows(with bells), so if you are sensitive to noise don't take the pink room.They changed us to another room that was silent without any problem. 
We stayed for diner 475 NOK pp( chef quality price)  and this was really not worth it. We received a smal potato with a piece of ham for starter followed by a fish with oatmeal, turnips,a leaf of cabbage( healthy but  totally tasteless) and for dessert a bowl with some pieces of lemon cake and walnut ice. Worst diner of the all trip. Presentation zero. Breakfast was good but basic. 
We payed in total for 2 nights  and one diner 5460 NOK . This was just TWICE as expensive as Nes Gard  in Luster who had a better location a beautiful room with terrace and kitchen spectacular views and wonderful diners and breakfasts.
The score I gave was because of the ridiculous price for this real farm experience.
