Fossli Hotel

Location was excellent, many rooms, including the dining  had views of the magnificent waterfall. Pleasant staff. Dinner was delicious, presentation very good, served by a friendly lovely waitress. Breakfast was tasty however no hot food. Historical information and artefacts to view whilst roaming the communal rooms. The bed was older but still comfortable. Perfect location to explore the waterfall trails, Easy free parking.

It overlooks Voringfossen waterfalls with walkways over the falls providing breathtaking views.

Amazing location above Varingsfossen! I had to leave before breakfast soTitas (Stan), an outstanding addition to staff, made me feel at home and additionally procured a hearty breakfast sandwich the night before. As a note if information, there was not a tv in my room (which is perfect by me!)... Fossli is A  wonderful!!

The most spectacular views…and very attentive & friend staff!!

The fossli hotel is family owned and run for four generations, very friendly staff and great location.

Excellent views, when walking sround. Very good service. The hotel reminds about a specific hotel related to a Nicholson movie. 😀 Making the comparidons was only fun. This is a must place to visit if you are in the area!

We just loved our one night at the Fossli! The staff was amazingly kind, polite and helpful. The view from our room was stunning. The food was great. When we come back, we are definitely staying here again!

We visited the enchanting Voringfossen waterfall one day then returned 5 days later to stay the night. Bed a bit uncomfortable. Maybe a little outdated, but had lots of character. Would stay again if the opportunity presented itself.Loved the history of the motel. Owner and staff very friendly. Explained the wonderful mural painted on the dining room wall. Food was superb at breakfast. Very elegant. Enjoyed a delicious homemade snack both times at the cafe. Thanks to Rammo-Abby Chiras Subtire for the pastries and the excellent cafe au lait.

As a historian, I can always enjoy when a hotel stays true to its 'original' state. Luckily, not all services date are still dated back to 1891. Our room was a bit outdated (or not as it stayed true to its originality). The room was good in its simplicity and still offers good comfort. The staff at the hotel was kind. 

What a magnificent view the hotel has over Vøringfossen and Måbødalen valley. The area is simply put: beautiful. It can get crowded by tourists though. 

If one needs a (creative) retreat, then the Fossli Hotel is the place to go! 

Time travelling to Edvard Grieg

This is a hotel that I have wanted to stay at for a long time, mainly because of the location and there great views and was not disappointed. 

The facilities are basic but the hotel has character so no complaints there. 

The restaurant offers good service although slightly on the more expensive side. 



Must be one of the best locations to stay

The Fossli is an old hotel oozing with charm and history. It's location is unique, actually just perfect if you want to experience the very rare opportunity of staying on a mountain right next to the amazing voringfossen waterfall, fjord views and a base for trekking in the wilderness. If you expect to stay close to all amenities then this is absolutely not the hotel for you. The voringfossen is Europe's highest waterfall and is situated within innermost edge of the eidfjord so do expect some breathtaking veiws. Busloads of tourists visit from around 10am onwards so you should sleep here if you seek tranquility in the morning and evening when all tourists are gone. During the day, you can spend quitet peaceful time by walking some of the amazing treks that are close by.

Do note that this hotel is genuinely a 19th century Art Noveau-style building which also means that everything is overused and feels tired, although in good working condition. They also have the original Piano used by the famous composer Edvard Grieg and stories tell that he composed the Opus 66 on this very piano.

Location is one-of-a-kind

Met the owners family, who have owned this place forever.  The hotel is dated, but they keep it clean (especially the bathroom).  But you really stay here for the location.  The waterfall is spectacular from the top, but you have to add the view from the bottom.

The front desk staff advised us there were three places to park and start your hike to the bottom of the falls.  The first you encounter is the White Building.  This is the longest walk.  The second is between the first and second tunnels.  This is a shorter, but still long walk.  The third is the parking along both sides of the road between the second and third tunnels.  THIS IS THE PARKING YOU WANT!  The hike from the first and second parking spots is fine, but definitely check availability at the third spot.  You don't lose any of the best hiking, and it will save you time and your knees!

Perfect Location, Nice People, GREAT ADVICE (see review)

The view is unbelievable. You can only have it on your dreams. We were really amazed. The hotel is clean and the stuff are very helpful and nice, but this nice historical place really needs a renovation inside the rooms. I very much like the historical style but I don’t feel comfortable when the cold water tap is on the right side of the washing basin and the warm is on the left far from each other. Or when the shower handle dates back to 1900 and sprays the water everywhere except my head. 

Fantastic view, moderate quality

Fantastic Stay!

Stayed for a weekend last week of June, fell in love with the hotel and came back the following week for four more nights. Extremly servicedminded staff, excellent views and a very nice "retro" feel. Food was delicious, mostly locally sourced.

Well worth a visit

Fantastic views and an excellent hotel.

Nice staff, cozy rooms. Good atmosphere. My baby liked it. Good panorama on tha waterfall. Good food (for Norvegia standards) Classical music as background. Occasionally piano players. Nice stube. Old fashioned. Only thing that I didn't like this oversized parking place in front of it. 

Recommended for intelligent people.

Very nice hotel with great location and tasty restaurant for dinner. Big variety of food for the breakfast. I recommend to stay at this hotel to compare the waterfall views in the evening and in the morning - feel the difference. Nice staff.

Great place to stay

This is a great hotel that is about 50 yards from the spectacular the magnificent Vøringsfoss waterfall. The building is full of historical information about the area. Restaurant was  excellent.  Highly recommend.
