Best place in this village for hotel, breakfast & restaurant

Beautiful old hotel with a wonderful staff. Hotel almost empty because of time of year. Wonderful meal in the restaurant as well as buffet breakfast the next morning.

When you come to Fjaerlands to see the glaciers which is a must there are only a couple hotel choices. I picked Hotel Mundal because it is an historic hotel from 1891. First, let me say they are getting ready for a renovation that will take care of the painting and initial appearance of the hotel. I hope they update the rooms too.
The downstairs parlor rooms and dining room are filled with the beautiful antique wood furniture built by one of the owner.
The highlight is the Michelin quality restaurant. The food was out of this world.

We were traveling by boat and visited this hotel for dinner. The hotel is historic and charming. We were a group of 7 and had booked that morning. The meal exceeded our expectations - the presentation of our tomato soup was lovely and the halibut delicious. The service was attentive. 

Historical hotels. A lot of original stuff. Beautiful view. Good services. Location is excellent.

Hotel from another era and still in keeping with the 1940's so the floors creak and the walls are thin but it is worth it for the experience of staying in an old stately home. Excellent staff and good food. Wonderful country setting.

The hotel is in a gorgeous setting. Breathtaking scenery. It is a beautiful old hotel but in need of some maintenance. They are slowly renovating the rooms which is great. The manager and hotel staff were great. Very friendly and helpful. It is more like staying at a B & B. It is very remote but worth the effort.

Lots of character, good location, renovation overdue

We arrived late and the kitchen was closed. Had to drive to a camping site to Get something warm to eat. Old hotel, large room,   Clean. Staff helpfull and competant

Historic hotel in a must see location

Delicious dinner in this charming historic hotel

This is a sad story that I hate to tell.  The husband visited this hotel about 40 years ago, and has, since then, always said it was the only place he would pay to go back to.  Well, we actually planned our Norway trip around staying here, so it was an important stop.  Well, driving up to the hotel I could tell the town seemed a little beat.  But then we got to the hotel.  Oh My!  So bad!  I was hoping the husband wouldn't notice! Paint chipping and cracking, roof in terrible disrepair, grounds unkempt. Even the foundation looks bad! So very sad this place is.  The inside is not much better.  The employees are all foreigners and really don't seem to care much about anything.  We had the Tower Room - sort of the king of the road!  But so worn out!  The furniture was like Grandma's attic, and the beautiful porch was all peeling paint and mold.  So, so sad.
We went to dinner in the dining room, and this is very good news.  It was one of the best dinners I had in Norway!!  Who could have guessed?!? I had delicious tomato soup and lamb chops.  Breakfast was OK, too.
So. We had the opportunity to talk with several people about the hotel.  Rumor has it that the family that had owned it forever had to eventually sell, and the buyer, who promised to fix it up and care for it, had fallen short of his promises.  Very sad, indeed.

Faded Glory

This historic hotel has a wonderful location to the fjords and glaciers. The hotel is in need of some work, but the interior is mostly lovely and historic. Large, beautiful dining ( except for the ugliest ceiling lamps I have ever seen) with classical music in the background. We had a room adjacent to the stairway - which I would not recommend. Very noisy as guests came and went - a whole busload arriving at midnight and leaving at 06 banging up and down the stairs. Single beds pushed together for a double bed. Not a person who speaks Norwegian here! All staff are from lithuania , and speak English. They are all very pleasant and accommodating, but it seems strange in such a historic place.

Faded glory

Lovely view, fantastic nature! But please remember to look after the building as it needs care and renovation. To use showercutains in front of bedroom windows is not good. Nice breakfast and friendly staff.
