This hotel was a complete surprise .stayed one night should have been longer.caught electric ferry back to flam from right outside the hotel.
We had one of the Viking rooms.two large windows in the ceiling to look at the waterfalls in the distance. Room was large clean. Breakfast in the morning was of a high standard.
We also had dinner which was good value. Lighting if the beacons outside so returning vikings brought a great atmosphere to the hotel.

GOOD - breakfast .... location , among nature .  IMPROVE-  staff was so so -- checking in they not too interested ..here ya go /  Thought when saw the nice rooms - wow -  but I ended up in  MOTEL cabin like room -- good size  but disappointed

Its an amazing hotel !!   The view from my room top was insane(since it had glass roof)
We had an amazing experience.  The view of the fjord from the hotel is just astounishing.. 
The hotel is very close to Viking valley and its not even 1 minute on foot. 
I m happy that we selected this place to stay for 2nights.

The best thing about our stay at Gudvangen in early June 2023 was the spectacular setting. We had reserved one of the viking style rooms. It was nice enough but small and quite expensive. We enjoyed our dinner and breakfast at the restaurant. We had arrived in Gudvangen by electric boat and were scheduled to continue on to Voss the next day by bus. The bus stop is conveniently located right at the Fjordtell. There is a recreated Viking Village but we arrived too late and left too early to visit. Of all our stops in Norway, this is one I might skip the overnight next time and just hop on the bus from the boat. 

Gudvangen is good, not great

What a wonderful opportunity for our entire travel party to stay together.  We rented a 3-bedroom apartment.  The shared space was limited, but having a place for us all to lay our heads was great!  Our apartment offered outdoor seating/porch and we had a view of a beautiful waterfall.  A short walk to the main reception, gift shop and dining room offered a lovely stroll down the street.  The views of the Fjords made this well worth it.  The majesty and beauty were not wasted and could be admired as you could sit and enjoy the splendor.  We also walked and went to the Viking Village, a paid attraction, but a fun way to spend a few hours.  This hotel was a short bus ride from the close town of Flam.  Glad we added this stay to our itinerary!

Amazing hotel ! I felt like Viking ! The view from room was TOP!!! It was an amazing experience! The staff very friendly! The hotel so close to Viking valley not even 1 minute on foot ! I m happy that I made it and visited this fab place 🤍
It was so beautiful even if I went during November! During summer will be perfect! As I know is more crowded and there are many events in Viking Valley ! I stayed only one night just because I wanted to visit the valley and this hotel honestly made me feel the vibe of Vikings

Real Viking feeling

Of all the hotels we stayed during our 10-day visit to Norway, this was the one we liked least. 

The location is the only really draw for this hotel. It's more like a modest holiday village in a dramatically beautiful (and quiet) location. There were very few other options in the immediate vicinity and that's why we stayed here. 

The room was extremely modest, though it was very clean.

Food in the restaurant was below average, yet quite expensive. 

It wasn't terrible by any means, but I would not stay here again.

Beautiful location - below average accommodations

So glad we stayed here instead of Flåm. The location is beautiful and so much less touristy. This hotel is pretty much the only place to stay, and we chose the Viking room just for something a bit different. Maybe a bit gimmicky, but the skylight is a nice touch looking out in to the mountains, and room & bathroom bigger than other hotel rooms we stayed at in our Norway trip. No trouble sleeping even given the light, and there was a fan in the room too. Prices for what was still available in Flåm were a lot higher than here, had shared bathrooms and were much more hostel-y. Breakfast buffet was a bit of a letdown though, but it was included in the price so not much to complain about.

The Gudvangen Fjordtell is at a level of quality equal to a budget hotel in the US.  The bed was uncomfortable, the linens were cheap, and the walls were thin.  We stayed in a "Viking Room", which had a large skylight in the ceiling.  That sounds great - and it was in a way - but it makes it nearly impossible to sleep during the summer when it's light so long.  And the skylight itself was cracked and dirty.  The included breakfast was adequate, if not particularly tasty.  

This hotel has basically 2 things going for it - a stunningly beautiful location, and it's the only game in town.  The only reason we decided to stay here was because all the hotels in Flam were sold out.

Motel Quality at Hotel Prices

We stayed in two Viking rooms. The rooms were very nicely decorated with Viking memorabilia. The bathroom was quite small with a shower. The room was right next to the amazing fjord. There was no A/C, but a small fan did the job during the hot hours. Breakfast was very good. The only issue was the pretty skylight - there was hardly any darkness in July, and although the hotel provided eye-covers, it's difficult to sleep in such light.
