Great located senic - type hostel style - good breakfast. Free parking.

We have a fantastisk and relaxing stay at this hostel. Worth the value of the money. The receptionist, a man was accommodating and friendly. He informed well about the place. The place has breathtaking views and zen-irity vibes. There was garden concert during our stay that adds up the cozy vibes. The kitchen was well equipped and the common area, toilet and shower are clean. For sure we will be back in the future. Have a relaxing summer holidays!

Although shower and toilet are not in each room, there are, nevertheless, individual private showers and individual private toilets. Each room has its own sink as well

Clean and friendly hostel standard. Beautiful view from our room.

Got a good deal in short notice to stay one night before hiking to Trolltunga. Nice tidy rooms. Quiet and peaceful. Shared toilets and kitchen. The best part of the hostel was the breakfast! 
The hostel is located up in the hill. You get nice views to the fjord and mountains on the other side. There are fruit orchards in the area also.

As we drove up to the hostel, we couldn't believe the location, it is simply stunning. The old building sits on the top of a hill overlooking the Fjord and it is a view you simply can't get everywhere you go. The rooms are simple, but you can't knock them for this. The breakfast is huge, with lot's to choose from. The common areas are large and open to all. The sauna was a great addition and after a long day of driving it was nice.,,especially when you have it all to yourself. Also provided a cot for us to use as well...the parking situation needs some improvement.

One night before Trolltunga hiking

Stunning scenic spot

We were in Hardanger Hostel in june for one night. The bunk beds were comfortable and the room was clean. The toilet and shower were shared and clean.
We had to pay extra for bed linen and towels.
The breakfast was ok. The best of this hostel was the view, just perfect!
Free parking and good hub for trolltunga hiking.

Amazing view

The hostel is well maintained, prices reasonable, and staff very cordial. The rooms are clean, kitchen well kept, and common bathrooms very clean. Breakfast is included. Wifi is not accessible in all rooms. Common hall at the reception has strong signal.

It should be noted that transport to Odda is limited by number of buses available, which are few, unless one has a car. 

I stayed here for a trip to Trolltunga, and it was a bummer to take a taxi which cost 800NOK.

All in all for local hikes in Lofthus, this place is ideal.

Good value for money for accommodation in wilderness

If you have to stay in Lofthus you're stuck with Hardanger Hostel since It's the only game in town. There are two more hotels there, one looks like a barn, and the other is a nice modern building, but I'm not sure if you can make an online reservation at either one. 
     
We had a room for two with a personal (not shared) bathroom. The room was tiny. The "furniture" consisted of two bunks and a table made of 2x4 lumber. The bathroom was ok with ample hot water supply. We had to make our own bed. Breakfast was ok. The view was fine but paying about $120 for the view was a bit exorbitant.

The building in which we stayed is in dire need of a revamp. The plastic fitting for the light is aging that its starting to compete with the weird orange painted doors. Although I have no problem with making my own bed, I would expect it from a cheaper place, not one that is more expensive than a nice hotel in Oslo per night. 
At more than a hotel next to Oslo Central Station per night , this accommodation is definitely not competing in the value for money category. 
The was sigarette smoke coming though the air-conditioning. Reception found the root cause and resolved it. Thanks allot! 
The curtains are not block out so those who are sensitive to light might want to either get a mask or look somewhere else. 
The kitchen was well equipped. 
The living area looks like something that survived every decade for the past century, the most modern item being the wifi password poster. 
The grounds around the buildings were well groomed though the hot bath outside was out of order. 
The breakfast was good and most people will find something to eat. For 50 NOK extra you can take up to 5 slices of bread with you for lunch (you can make use of the breakfast toppings for the bread). 
A huge amount of effort and money is needed to make this place competitive with upmarket hotels in the same price range that offer more and better of pretty much everything. 
Sorry but I can't recommend this place. 

A bed and breakfast in Hardanger 

Loved the view and the breakfast here! Room was clean and was to a very reasonable prize. First time I've been to a B&B where you have to make your own bed and take the linen off again before you leave. This place has a dorm feeling to it! Very friendly place but impossible to find something to eat here on a Monday evening  if you haven't brought anything with you!
