We were traveling through Norway and didn't have planned places to stay overnight. Reception was still open and they gladly took us in even it was so late. They have really nice breakfast including nice Nordic meals. Very aesthetic place beside of the road. The room was nice and bed was comfy. Big plus for English service since we're from Finland. 

Very nice place to stay overnight 

We stayed at this hotel for one night, on our way from Oslo to Bergen. The staff was very friendly and were able to accommodate our late check-in. They were able to provide a baby cot for my younger child which was greatly appreciated! 
It was easy to park our car just next to the hotel.
The breakfast was very nice, with many options: delicious homemade bread, fresh fruit and many others treats!

Friendly hotel in Nesbyen

This hotel is nicely located. Only a bit close to the main road where there are many trucks passing.
There are some rooms with a balcony, which is a nice extra. On each floor there are a few balconies for common use. Also good to sit outside without wind.

The rooms are small and outdated. They need an update. Stains on carpets. Curtains do not shut out the light.

Beds are good, so is the shower.

Dinner choice is non existent. The owner has one meal for all. The cooking is simple, but delicious. And prices are very reasonable.

Breakfast is great, one of the best we had in Norway.

The owner is very kind, speaks some english and german.

All in all a nice experience.

Old hotel, but great hospitality

We stayed at Smedsgarden Hotel on our way from an afternoon flight into Oslo, heading toward Flam the next day.  

The Hotel is located in a lovely rural valley with a river flowing through, providing a nice serene atmosphere.  Every member of the staff we encountered was very friendly and courteous, making us feel welcome.  It was very quiet at the hotel as we were there on a Sunday night and it's the off-season.  The room was nothing special, but it was clean, comfortable and gave us a good nights sleep.  If those three things occur I'm usually pretty happy.  Our room overlooked the valley and in the morning clouds were drifting through making for a lovely sight as we readied for the day.  Breakfast was very good with a variety of Norwegian staples.  Got to try brown cheese for the first time here, very tasty!  

The hotel is in need of some renovation and probably isn't for those who's taste lean more toward the luxurious.  But for us, travelling on a bit of a budget, it provided a very nice relaxing stay.  If my travels ever take me this way again, I'd not hesitate to stay.

Charming Hotel with a Hint of Days Gone By

The hotel has a funky feeling from the 70's.

Probably not much renevation has been done since its opening - some might think its a cool thing, some not.

Stayed in a cabin right next to the hotel, it was old and in need of some restoration and fixing (beds were pretty rustic, shower had some issues and so on) but in general it was clean.

Service at the reception was excellent and food was delicious; dinner was basic home cook food - and it was not pricy compared to the standards in Norway.

Breakfast was included and it was more than expected from a hotel like this. A big thumbs up.

Located right next to the main road from the north to Oslo , so its easy to find.

Hotel from the 1970's

We stayed here en route from Bergen to Oslo and because it was close to the Bjørnepark near Flå.

We booked the cottage. It is very, very basic but full of charm. If you want Marriot with 65' plasma and turn down service, then keep looking. This isn't it.

What it is, however, is a superbly located, genuine piece of Norwegian life. The views are stunning, the people are super friendly and even their kids come up to the house to say 'hey!' 

They offer an evening meal, we didn't take this as it was a meat option and I'm veggie, but the smell almost turned me! Smelled amazing. If the cooking is met with the same passion as the staff the. I'm sure it would be great. Was 200kr pp for two courses and coffee.

Breakfast was included also and very good. Buffet style and very 'of the continent'; cold meats, cheeses, fish, cereals etc.

We even met the owners daughter in Oslo the following day and she took the time to stop and say hello for a bit.

Was just what we were looking for.
