I was really disappointed we arrived to be told that the restaurant was closed it was a night it should be open.  I specifically book hotels with restaurants for my trip.  In addition the first room we were offered the bathroom smelt of sewage,  the staff member flushed the toilet and said it normally goes away...the 2nd room we were offered was better .  With restaurant closed we walked 1.5 miles down into town to eat and got taxi back in the hill at 165nok . Beds were far too soft.   Location and breakfast were good but that is it.  Would not recommend this place

Disappointed...

We stayed here as our base for the overnight hike to Trolltunga. The hotel is cute and gets the job done, but it's not anything special. The bed was comfortable, the room was tiny, and the bathroom was tiny. We weren't expecting anything super fancy so it was fine. The only thing I disliked was the wet bathroom - I know it's common in Europe, but this one was just super small. The breakfast was probably my least favorite of all the hotels we stayed in - there wasn't any fruit which I found disappointing and the selection just wasn't very big. The people working the front desk were very nice. Also the location isn't great - its about a 25 minute walk from town where groceries and places to eat are (their restaurant is a little pricey... like a lot of Norway... and not open two days of the week.. one of which was when we were there). It was good for what we needed. 

Good hotel - location not great, breakfast not great

Bedroom was small but comfortable for solo travelling and with a beautiful view of the lake and mountains. Very modern and stylish look to the place. Restaurant was closed for dinner service the first night due to staff sickness however the lady behind reception very kindly helped arrange a pizza delivery for myself as I couldn’t face doing the walk down to town a third time that day haha. Breakfast was tasty and included in the stay. Would highly recommend to other travellers. Just beware that if you got the bus into town you may want to taxi it up to the hotel with your suitcases as it’s almost all up hill otherwise. 

Comfortable and stunning

In preparation for Trolltunga hike, the best place to stay is Trolltunga hotel in Odda, Norway. It’s a basic hotel but with a very good view. Trolltunga Active has a partnership with the hotel, so they provide transport to the start point and etc. Hotel staff are warm and really helpful. The hotel room is slightly small but has everything that we need for a comfortable stay. Breakfast has a limited variety, but we stayed there during off-peak. Will define recommend for people doing Trolltunga hike.

Hotel with a nice view

Was expecting just basic accommodation after reading the reviews on this place. We paid a steep price for 2 night stay for three people. My husband repeatedly told us to keep our expectations low on this place. But it turned out different. Location was fantastic. You have the fjord on the back of the hotel with the lake to the front. Amazing views. We stayed in the costliest room with attached bathroom. The room was very spacious and the bathroom was half the size of the room - newly done and very tidy. 
My only point for improvement is breakfast- it has very basic breakfast options for vegetarians.

Neat and tidy, spacious room and bathroom, amazing views

Went here to do the trolltunga trip for 2 nights. Honestly it offers what a bare minimum hotel should provide. Room was not in great shape(tried to look past this as we was only there to do trips and sightseeing). 
But it just got worse as time went on: 
1. Could barely sleep, paper thin walls, had to keep window open because it was hot and it was loud. So barely any sleep
2. Rooms aren’t properly functional, if you have a shower the whole bathroom becomes a wet room. There’s no shower curtain or anything to avoid this.
3. Beds really hurt my body, only one pillow which was bad. 
4. This isn’t actually cheap for what your getting, it’s not exactly like it’s cheap and not “pay for what you get” type thing. It’s more of a thing people have to put up with because it’s only a few hotels near a big tourist hotspot. 

On the flip side, some of the things the hotel can offer:
1. A packed lunch for you to take mountain climbing 
2. They look like they have a nice restaurant with a good menu
3. It’s set in a beautiful area with lots of seating 

Take from this review what you will. We couldn’t stand to do the 2 nights as we just wanted to go home at that point. But the hotel does it’s job but you have to put up with the cons that comes along with it.

Not up to par

Our family of four (two adults and two boys ages 15 and 19), stayed at the Trolltunga Hotel from August 12th-14th. It is a great hotel on the side of a lake with stunning views of the mountain and a river rushing by.
 
The main floor of Trolltunga Hotel has a spacious lounge and an outside terrace with views of the lake and the rapids. The lake that adjoins the hotel has a nice footpath to the right of the rapids, and we saw people walking to the town of Odda from the hotel. The town of Odda is 2.4km from the hotel, a 25 min walk and 5 min drive.
 
Wifi is free but only available in the public areas.
 
We reserved two double rooms each with a private bathroom. Our rooms were located on the first floor and we did not have to take any stairs to get to the rooms. My husband and I took the Double Room Plus (Room 121) with a double bed and a view to the whole valley of Odda while my boys shared Double Room Plus HC (Room 127) with a double and a single bed. Double Room Plus had a smaller bathroom while Double Room Plus (HC) had a larger bathroom with an open shower. Both rooms were basic and functional and had a chair with a small desk and TV. Beds were soft but comfortable and the shower was hot and powerful. Each of us had a carry on and a backpack so we had no issues with floor space after setting down our luggage. The rooms had a small coffee maker with a limited selection of tea, sugar and creamer.
 
The hotel provides you with soap and towels. Would definitely recommend bringing your own shampoo, conditioner and toothpaste instead of relying on the toiletries provided by the hotel.
 
We chose this hotel as we had booked a guided Trolltunga Hike through Trolltunga Active. The hotel serves as the meeting point for everyone joining one of the many Trolltunga Active tours the following day.
 
We rented a car in Stavanger and drove to Odda on August 12th. We arrived at the hotel in the evening. Parking at the hotel is free and after checking into our rooms we packed our backpacks for the big hike the next day. We were scheduled to attend the 9pm information session by Trolltunga Active and since it was late in the evening with no other options for restaurants nearby, we decided to have dinner at Trolltunga restaurant. The restaurant can be reached by taking a small set of stairs down and has a nice seating area with beautiful views of the river and valley. Each of us ordered a fish burger which was tasty and plenty to keep us full.
 
Breakfast buffet was included in the room rate and served from 6am-9:30am in the restaurant downstairs. I had read many negative reviews regarding the breakfast but was pleasantly surprised to have ample choices for our family considering we do not eat pork or ham. The breakfast was very basic but well laid out and consisted of the following items: two baskets of eggs (hard boiled and soft boiled), scrambled eggs, sausage, ham, wide variety of bread loaves, croissants, butter, jam, salmon, bell peppers, cucumbers, different kinds of cheese, mackerel, mayonnaise, yogurt, cereal, fruit, oatmeal, milk, coffee and tea.
 
For $17.50 extra/person, we were able to buy a lunch package for our Trolltunga Hike through the hotel. The lunch package includes a chocolate bar, a piece of fruit, and 6 sandwiches per person. Once the purchase for the lunch package is made, the hotel provides you with a lunch token which you can give to the staff at breakfast. They put the chocolate bar and fruit in a brown paper bag and you can make a very decent sized lunch for the hike at breakfast with a "Do It Yourself "kind of station. For our family of four we only bought two lunch packages as we thought that 12 sandwiches for 4 people would be more than enough. We drove to Rema 1000 , a few minutes from the hotel the night before the hike, to get some granola bars and chocolates which was sufficient. We found this option very convenient and well priced for what we got.
 
Location of the hotel for Trolltunga Hikers is perfect. It is conveniently located 20 mins from the P2 parking lot. This is where most people start the Trolltunga hike.
 
Note: You can save around 3 hours of hiking time (8km total) if you start the hike at P3. This can be accomplished by either taking the shuttle bus from Skjeggedal (P2) to Mågelitopp (P3) or by reserving a parking space at P3. People who do not have a trip booked through Trolltunga Active but have a rental car, can purchase/reserve a parking spot at P3. Space is limited so it is better to reserve the parking spot in advance. Another option is to park your rental car at P2 and book the shuttle bus to P3. Shuttle buses between P2 Skjeggedal and P3 Mågelitopp are operated by the company Trolltunga-Road Bus and the return ticket from P3 to P2 can be purchased once you are on the morning bus on the way to P2. 

Please note that everyone who drives from Tyssedal (P1) to Skjeggedal (P2) MUST pay tolls before driving up to P3. The toll road is paid on P2 before the drive up to P3. 
 
Another piece of important information is that reserving a parking spot at P3 and driving a car to P3 gives slow hikers more flexibility. If for some reason, it takes you a little longer to complete the hike, you can still drive your car from P3 since the parking lot is open until midnight. Reserving a shuttle bus from P3 to P2, offers less flexibility for hikers who are a little slow. The last shuttle from P3 to P2 departs at 7pm in the month of August and if you do not make it to the P3 parking lot in time, then you have to walk an extra 4km down to P2 to get to your car. This is what happened to our family :)
 
We left the hotel at 7am the day of our hike and parked our car at the P2 parking lot around 7:25am. We met Jostein from Trolltunga Active at P2 and took the shuttle to P3 where we started our hike. We made it back to P3 by 8pm and by that time there was no option to take the shuttle bus back to P2. We had to walk all the way to P2 which took us another hour. Even if the tour is booked through Trolltunga Active, the shuttle buses are operated by another company and the return leg from P3 to P2 is only guaranteed if the hikers complete the hike before the last shuttle bus departure from P3. 
 
For us, it was a long but enjoyable day and we arrived at the hotel around 10pm. We asked our guide to call the hotel around 9:15pm and place our dinner orders. We ordered pumpkin soup and 3 venison dishes. The hotel staff was very kind to have us sit in their restaurant and have dinner after the restaurant was closed.
 
All in all, we had a nice stay. The only negative thing I have to say about the hotel is that the staff at the reception during check in was not very friendly.  

I would recommend this hotel to hikers and young travelers, but probably not for those seeking a luxurious stay! We would definitely stay at Trolltunga Hotel if we return to Odda.

Good Hotel Base for Trolltunga Hike!!!

A fantastic place to stage your Trolltunga hike, just on the outskirts of Odda. From here, you're only a 25 minute drive from the trailhead. The hotel itself is very basic. You'll get your own private bathroom, but it will be bare bones, the bed was more like a cot and had very little support. However, the views are priceless. Every morning I would wake up to another worldly fjord with waterfalls.

The restaurant food was amazingly great. The pumpkin soup was perfect, well spiced and stomach warming. The steak was cooked to a perfect medium well sauced and beautifully garnished. Overall, I would definitely recommend.

Great hotel for the Trolltunga hike

This hotel has been the most unhelpful hotel I have come across.
My friend and I were booked to stay here 21st and 22nd July 2022. Our flights to Norway was on the 20th July, however due to some protestors blocking the road that resulted in a 3 hour standstill we unfortunately missed our flights. 
We spent 3 hours then in the airport searching for flights to be able to get to Norway, we tried all London airports, all airlines and arrival to different destinations in Norway (with the help of a lovely lady at Norwegian air) but there was no availability. 
You can imagine our devastation as well as the stress this caused. The lovely hotel we were due to stay in that night provided us a refund. Our car hire charged us a wee cancellation fee. This hotel however would not allow us to cancel EITHER day of the booking!! We didn't even manage to get to the country! I am absolutely disgusted with their customer service and lack of empathy. We would have happily paid a cancellation fee (although there's no excuse for them not allowing a full refund of the 2nd night). The only thing they offered us was to re-schedule but they gave us until the end of the year to do so! Now that left us with 2 months of hiking season (without a guide until 15th Sept) to try and re-book an entire holiday to Norway, including trying to get time off from work again which we have been unable to do. We wanted to hike Trolltunga in the summer months where it was safer to do so without a guide, they could have at least offered to let us re-book for next summer. Quite frankly, they have been entirely unhelpful, they aren't a cheap hotel either, so we have been left substantially out of pocket through no fault of our own. 
I feel everyone should be aware of how they treat their customers! They are only after your money!!

Only after your money!

This hotel survives on guests taking Trolltunga Active  tours.  It serves as the meeting point the night before tours.  The rooms are tiny, and you shouldn't expect to have any floor space, especially after you set down your luggage.  Beds are soft and lacking in support.  Expect the entire bathroom including sink, toilet, and door to get soaked during your shower (hence the squeegee in the shower).  Breakfast was depleted and ran out of most items at 9AM.  The dinner was good, and I recommend the fish burger which was juicy and delicious.  Rooms do not have wifi but the lobby does.   The public shuttle doesn't always stop at this hotel so the schedule is limited if you don't have a car.   Rooms have private or shared bathroom.  There is only one shared shower/ toilet on the fourth floor.  Not any nearby restaurants besides the one in the hotel.  Overall, convenient for those taking the Trolltunga Active tours, otherwise would stay somewhere else.
