We stayed at this hotel for just one night.  It is right opposite the bigger and nicer looking Hotel Skifer and from the outside we were thinking, Yikes, we picked the wrong hotel.  But the room was quite big and completely updated, very stylish modern interior.  We were in a room right by the road, but it was pretty quiet.  The blackout shades didn't block out the midnight sun completely ( we found, none of them do!), but we slept well.  There was no hair dryer in the room but we got one at the front desk.
Breakfast was quite nice for a small hotel- we only say maybe three other tables there.  Still there was a nice spread.
Both room and dining area were very clean and nice.  Front desk person was very friendly and helpful.
We would definitely stay there again, but try to get a room off the road!

Much nicer than it looks from the Outside!

The rooms are nice and clean. I managed fit my wife and I and three kids comfortably in one room and had space for one more. The hotel is located right in the middle of town right next to the Skifer Hotel. The room also incorporates a small kitchen with fridge, stove, microwave and cupboard space. There is also a TV that has a few good channels including the BBC news channel. In terms of room space, this hotel is better value for money than the Skifer Hotel. I have stayed in both.  

The breakfast however is the worst.  It seems to be supplied and ran by Wang House, which is a Chinese restaurant by night but is still situated within the grounds of the hotel just above the reception area. There was only ever one member of staff on duty, so service is slow, if at all. Breakfast consists of shop bought sliced bread, not even removed from the packing, just thrown into a basket. There are also boiled eggs, soft fried eggs with a small strip on bacon on the top, orange juice, milk, some cornflakes and muesli then your regular spreads. There is also a choice of cold cuts in a small display case, all of which is displayed on a medium size table. Not much choice at all. Everything is on a first come first serve basis by the way. Breakfast is 7 or 8 am till 10 am but after 9 am, which is the time we usually got to the sparse buffet table, most things would have been finished or just about finished. Nothing really seemed to be replenished, as I would often ask and would be told it had ran out. Nothing was available on order (how you may prefer your eggs for instance) nor were there any fruits. For the 5 days we where there we only ever saw a small bowl of sliced oranges on offer.  

In brief, breakfast here has all the finesse of getting a specialist Sushi chef to down tools and prepare a continental breakfast with no prior knowledge of what it should look or even taste like. It's just terrible.    

We reverted to walking two minutes across the street to the Bakeriet SPRØ / delicatessen which is uniquely owned an ran by Norwegian/Jamaican family. It is in a lovely location with outside seating and very comfortable an stylish inside furniture. There is even a kids play area which kept the children occupied for an age. There is also free wifi. Everything is all freshly made with a lovely wide range of artisan pasties, smoothies, sandwiches, breads and various other hand made bits and pieces. Then there is Starbuck rivaling products available from the barista and the ice cream made on a local farm. HEAVEN!!! On the delicatessen side, there are quite a few cold cuts and some hot food. There is also a wide ranging array of items like beers and other drinks and foods and groceries not available in any of the larger stores in the area. 

In brief, this is a lovely little family ran bakery/delicatessen with a welcoming family friendly environment and the best food and barista in the entire town. My family and I spent hours there!

That's not a breakfast! (Crocodile Dundee voice)

I would strongly not recommend this hotel. see pictures. there is dirt and not washed in weeks. there is mold in the bathroom, the carpets are dirty and smell bad. the door can not be locked. all kitchen equipment had to wash before use.

Wornd down

We chose to stay here because it was a good place to stay during our road trip. Don't be put off by the exterior.  It looks like a sad motor lodge from the 1960s, but inside, our room was nice and clean.  We had everything we needed and a decent night's sleep although the beds weren't extremely comfy, they were just fine for a night.  It's kind of a ghost town in the summer, I assume that the atmosphere would be quite different during the ski season.
You can have a nice breakfast across the street at the Bakery cafe.
The room has a microwave, fridge and range - (don't make the mistake of buying a frozen pizza for dinner - no oven).
A practical place to stay for the night for a lot less money than the hotel next door.

Decent, clean place, don't be put off by the exterior

Oppdal Gjestetun worked perfectly for my family on our skiing vacation. We were were quite intimadated by the Norwegian prices, but Gjestetun was an option that we could afford. It was a great place to stay while we were skiing. We used the free bus to get from the hotel to the mountains, which is only a ten-minute, scenic ride. And they bring you back home from the mountain at the end of the day as well. That was a huge help since we didn't have a car .
The rooms are fabulous. They're big and spacious, and the beds are awesome. Lots of space with a very interesting design. I never slept in a bed like that before, with posts and even a canopy on top. It felt really Norwegian to me. 
There's even a kitchen right in the room for preparing something hot after a long day on skiis. The hot spa was right down the hallway from our room was a huge added bonus. I used it every day, and there's no question that the sauna makes the ski trip more authentic. 
Lastly, the staff wasextremely friendly. I wasn't sure what to expect, since the Gjestetun is a "motel", but the service was first rate. The staff treated me and my family like honored guests. Where else can you find that?!

Affordable luxury for skiers

When I went to this motel to spend a few nights with my mother I was surprised to see how clean it was. The policies they have also ensure the guests saftey as well as their enjoyment. Above is also a convienient chinese restaurant if you don't want to travel a few feet to the store to get something to eat. Overall the hotel is quite nice, well designed, and has great customer service!
