Great hostel. 
friendly and helpful people. 
the breakfas isn't the best, but for the price it's well done.
you also can easy get a good cafe in a Bar nearby.
the hostel not in de middle of the city, but not too far away. we mostly walked there form the nearest metrostation.

Great Hostel

We booked 3 nights at this place and upon our arrival, we realized this guest house is some kind of dormitory or an old converted hospital. The cancellation policy was 24 hours prior to our stay, and so we decided to spend one night and check out next day, and the 2 nights should have been refunded. The young person/student at the reception made a note about it and told us they will take care of it. We tried to call the manager at that time and wanted to describe our disappointment, but he excused himself because he was at a dinner with friends and had no time to talk to us.
Now, 3 weeks have passed and we received no refund. Several e-mails for getting this refund were sent from us and we thought we will finally get it when Arthur Wikar - the manager, replied and requested our bank information. The wire should have followed, but it has not came. We are now 10 days past, more requests have been e-mailed, and no money have been deposited. Arthur Vikar sent an unprofessional and offensive e-mail after we sent our final e-mail to get our money back.
You should be aware and make your own judgment of this unfortunate experience before you book this place!

Trouble with refund.

I stayed here for three nights in June when i was in Oslo. It is a former nurses home, and in some ways is quaint, and dated in places. On the plus side it is exceptionally clean and the price is reasonable for Oslo. It also has free internet throughout. 

I stayed in a single room with a bathroom and shower across the hall. The room was good standard, no frills, and they give you an eye mask for sleeping as its bright most of the time. The one thing you have to be aware of is they don't remake beds etc during the stay. The toilet and shower were spotless and cleaned regularly. 
Some of the rooms do offer ensuite facilities but they are limited in number. 

The breakfast is self service but there is a good choice and very clean served in a large dining room. If you are coming into Oslo Central Station or Bus Station you can get the 37 bus in the direction of Nydalen T and it runs very regularly. Its about a 12 - 20 minute bus ride. Get off the bus and walk down the alley through various building and you are there in 5- 7 minutes. 

The reception staff are very helpful, but they are only there during business hours, and at weekends these are limited. 

If you want somewhere quiet it's the one

Clean & tidy, friendly staff, peaceful

The location of the hotel is pretty nice. It takes for about 15 min to central railway station (walking), but if you don't want to walk, you can take the direct bus № 37. 
Gjestehuset Lovisenberg is very quite and peaceful place. The whole building is very old and decorated in the old-fashion manner, but I liked it and felt like in the home of my grandma :) U can use free wifi and kitchen. If you want to drink something on the first floor is a place with free tea and coffee. I liked this place!

Nice and clean place, ideal for solo travellers

I have never been met with such a complete lack of interest for my wellbeing during a stay, anywhere in the world. This is a guesthouse and not a hotel, but still there was not even a trace of any service other than the fact that I was (reluctantly) allowed to check in earlier than the official office hours. Upon requesting a few allergy friendly options for the included breakfast, I was told that they would see what they could do. Well, they did nothing, and as one of 2 guests in the weekend, I was served exactly the food I had told them I was highly allergic to and would need medical attention if I ate. This continued the rest of the week, noone has yet asked me about my stay or satisfaction. Actually, noone has talked to me at all.... If you like peace and QUIET, this is the place for you! Other guests are walking with face down in the corridors and all conversation in the breakfast area is whispered and hushed. The ambience here is really weird. At first it felt exotic with the beautiful antique furniture, angels and Jesus on the walls and candle light on the tables, but after a few days it feels like I am in the wrong place and everybody else here thinks so too....
There are different price options available, some rooms have shared bathroom and are cheaper. There is also a kitchen for self catering. This could be value for money, but unfortunately the prices are no lower than for a fully serviced and modern city hotel, so it is really not worth it.
The Christian caregiving one could hope for at this religiously connected guesthouse is not there.
