Sotra Rorbusenter

After some trial and error we chose Sotra Rorbusenter about 45mins drive from Bergen for our annual fishing trip to Norway this year and spent a week in apartment no 8 and 10. Both apartments were very comfortable for our Group of 10. The kitchens are very well-equipped, wifi is fast and there were plenty of tv channels though I prefered to watch the fjord. We had three boats, one regular motor boat and two of the larger rustical diesel-driven boats and depending on the swell they allowed us to leave the fjord to fish in the open sea. The only little down side was that we did not have Echolot on all of the boats but this can be arranged for if reserved in advance. As for the boat trips the landlords Evy-Ann and Hakon are much more organised than anyone else I have met in Norway. There is a board providing information about the weather and the swell and the areas that you should stick to in order to remain safe. On leaving or arriving the marina everyone should sign out and in and leave his name and mobile numer. An uncle of mine once had to be picked up from a lonely skerry by a rescue boat already so we do appreciate that our landlords take such care of us. Fishing was good - we had catches everyday - mostly haddock, ling, cusk and mackerel. The biggest catch was a 1.34m ling but that was an exception though our neighbors - more professional fishermen than we are - pulled up pretty big fish everyday. There is a small store accross the street and a big supermarket a couple of minutes towards Bergen. The landscape is - as the entire Island - formed of rocky hills, cliffs and skerries, 20 minutes drive to the North you can visit an old mountain fortress built by the Nazis (ask Evy-Ann for the guided tours in order to see the tunnels since most of the fortress is hidden below the surface) and there are nice hiking trails into the rocky hills with beautiful views. To put it into a nutshell: it's a well-kept resort, Evy-Ann and Håkon are nice landlords with whom I had a chat everyday, we had a nice time together and pretty good fishing: we'll be back next year.
