On our first journey this summer, we planned a visit Røros and on our way decided on this Hotel, mainly due to the reports concerning this place.
Yes, we were welcomed on a very rainy afternoon, and shown to our fairly small room.
But since we were only staying one night this was a good solution.
Food in the evening was too much microwave, but breakfast was a great solution.
Of course if there had been no rain, this would be a great solution, especially staying in one of the small houses.

The old style Norway.

Very authentic place! I saw that some people we complaining about simple accomodation - if you want Versace tiles in your bathroom, I recommend staying in some big city. Saga Trollheimen consists of a number of finely restored antique houses from 18th and 19th century. Very comfy and there are also modern amenities such as well-equipped bathrooms. Tgere is plenty to see on the hotel grounds and nearby. Ask to be shown to the awesome local swimming spot Kulpanj for example! Food is nice and tasty, too.

Awesome authentic place

Rooms ares distributed in 'old houses' around a central open shed. Main building is a new building but in the same traditional style of the smaller buildings. These smaller wooden houses were bought nearby, dismantled and rebuild on the hotels property. Very cosy, peaceful and authentic (for tourists anyway!).

We had a good time in this wonderful place. Good food, cozy atmosphere and it was good for our meeting.
We stayed for a weekend, and we had meetings in the fireplace room. The room had projector and the seating was also great for working in groups. 
But this place is nice for weddings or other parties too. Some of the room has small bathrooms, but if you want to experiences how to live in an old authentic house I can recommend this. We will be back,and take trips to see the pinewood.

Great place to stay in "old" surroundings

Do not eat anything in their restaurant!!!.I have seen how they keep leftovers for other people(even like seting fresh potatoes with cheese in the top and other two weeks old under!!!! also serving expired food or fish that is the cheapest frozen salmon you can buy in the supermarket of the village. The sauces are made with powder. I do not understand how this place is still open and I have been there time enough to know perfect what I am talking about....

Fire alarm was not working when I was there(and the whole hotel is wood!!!!!)Rooms are not very clean, and on fridays and saturdays imposible to sleep due to the party outside with the pub open. The owners always trying to sell you food or trips around or photos....Just ask around the village, what do they think about them, they are very famous but for nothing positive.

The only good thing are the houses and the landscape, but to see that better go for a coffee and sleep in Surnadal that has a proper hotel.

I can not understand how Norwegian health department keep this place open

We found Saga Trollheimen by chance via Hotels.com and just by seeing the photos we knew that we had to adjust our road-trip so we could fit in a night at the "hotel". Safe to say we were not disappointed. 
The place is an extremely nice cozy family run business with a large main cabin (reception and dining room) along with several small cabins scattered across the area nearby. Our entire stay felt like we were visiting a distant uncle as the host Morten was taking personally care of our questions and needs.
Keep in mind that there's no TV or Wifi in the cabins since they are kept in a very traditional Viking-like wood house style (you do however have modern necessities like electricity,
bathroom and hot water).
Our only remark is that the place was a bit busy that weekend since there was some sort of running competition in the area so the hotel was fully booked. 
I don't know if our choices for dinner were limited to only two options (Pasta or Pork) that night due to the many guests, but it would have been nice to have tried the Elk-steak we saw on the menu in the reception (Pasta kind of broke the "illusion" of this traditional old cabin in the woods). Also the breakfast could have benefited from even more home made traditional Norwegian gastronomy but all in all it was alright.
I would definitely recommend a visit!

Very cozy and authentic feeling

Hard to find, but worth the trouble. Had a good time exploring the property.  So much to see.  Meals were delicious.  Room was quaint, but has a great view of the countryside.  Bathroom really tiny.  highly recommend
