Our walking group has a wonderful stay here. The hotel is simple and comfortable with lovely views. The best thing about this hotel is the customer care. Guests are well cared for, and the management goes the extra mile to keep them all happy.

Wonderful hospitality and lovely views

This is my second stay at the hotel, it’s just superb and I can’t wait to return for another trip.

It’s in a beautiful location with excellent amenities, large swimming pool and recently refurbished sauna (separate male and female) and changing rooms.

Food is excellent with buffet breakfast and lunch and set dinner meal.   Delicious choices and plentiful.

Staff are friendly and happy to help.

Small shop on site selling basics and a few gift ideas. 

Bedroom had a beautiful room, comfy bed with mattress topper.  Plenty of hot water and radiator was always warm.

No negatives, just a great hotel.

Thank you to Greta and all who make this hotel what it is, a little heaven.

Relaxed & comfortable ski trip

This hotel is at the top of a valley surrounded by the Jotunheim mountains. In spring it is full of X-country skiers, local and english, hosted by an amazing team led by Grethe, who makes a 100 bed hotel feel like 20. Summer is for walkers and horseriders. Significant numbers of returners attest to the beauty of the environment and the warmth of he staff.

Astonishing setting, friendly welcome

Grethe, her family and the team both in the hotel and on the tracks have successfully created an amazing experience for people looking for challenging xc skiing whilst also being comfortably and very well looked after when resting. Single rooms offer exactly what is required and various public lounges are available to spread out when not sleeping. Some bedrooms and all the public rooms offer  breathtaking views across the lake and to the other side of the valley and of the mountains beyond. Food is very tasty and plentiful. Even xc skiers can gain weight if they eat all that is on offer in the package but self-assembled packed lunches enable all day trips to be made and weight to be controlled. There is an equipped ski room and "drying rooms" on each floor. After skiing, I enjoyed a swim in the lovely big pool followed by a sauna and a nap before supper. Nordic GB is an informal and relaxed group that welcomes skiers of all standards - socialising, eating and skiing together (or apart) and offering daily acquarobic sessions to gently stretch and relax the body. Cannot think what could have been done to improve the holiday. Well done Grethe and Martin and Mary of Nodic GB!

Brilliant base for XC Skiing

This family-owned hotel offers the most exquisite cross country skiing conditions, breathtaking mountain views - and genuine warm-hearted hospitality. Dalseter is truly the most wonderful spot to experience the Norwegian “høyfjell”! My family has  returned to this place every year for 20+ years, and have thus gotten to know the place inside-out. The Gillebo family, with Grethe Gillebo at it’s centre, offers a well managed, attentively and welcoming service. The ski trails are beautifully kept and attended to. There are a great selection of trails to choose from - both for beginners and advanced skiers. Besides the traditional Norwegian cosiness of the interior, clean and spacious rooms, sweet and friendly staff  - you’ll find the calm and relax one seek in the mountains. The in-house dinning hall, offers traditional Norwegian food with great variety. 
Dalseter is really a visit worthy - but be careful, It’s quite addictive, and you might de yourself returning year after year.

Lovely Norwegian charme, wonderful friendly staff and owner - and top cross country ski conditions!

I would not recommend staying at this hotel to anyone. The food was extremely poor for all meals which should be enough to stay away. We’ve previously stayed at both Fefor and Wadahl and been very happy, just to give some reference. I do not usually give this bad reviews.

In addition Dalseter Høyfjells Hotel gives off the impression that it is on a downward slope.
The rooms smelled musky and old and was not pleasant to stay in unless you kept them ventilated.
Their “fitness room” as they advertise it consists of a few random weights and a fitness bike without a handle. Not a place you should be able to find in any respectable hotel.

But above all else - the food served will not make you want to eat your fill after a long day of skiing. The only upside there might be is if you have children who are picky as the food, if you are lucky, are mostly without taste.

However the area is good for cross country skiing - especially when the snowfall has been heavy as it then connects to the other areas in “Peer Gynts Rike”

Do not stay - not recommended.

Old style Hotel with a very friendly and professional service and sfaff. The breakfast and diner were delicous in buffet form. The room was ok but old style, window should be maintained...but everything was with the charme of this wonderful place...Large indoor pool with outside veranda, sun chairs need some maintenance/ refurbishment....
We booked a mountain horsetrip by Morten and his Team...amazing and exciting....Thank you very much for the ride on this wonderful horses...
We spent a really relaxing and exiting weekend in this wonderful hotel in the nature of highlands....

Wonderful weekend in a beautiful landscape

A lovely hotel in a lovely place. Good big room with a view and nice bath. Wonderful dining room with panoramic views. Nice breakfast and evening meal, good by Norway standards. Excellent buffet lunch included in package with packed alternative (made from breakfast). Friendly staff and nice atmosphere. Excellent and varied cross country skiing from the door. Easily reached by public transport from UK.

A Mecca for UK Cross Country Skiers

Just finished a great week at Dalseter.

Great cross country skiing location, very much geared to the intermediate and experienced skier. Ski from the door and back again, with lots of varied loops to try.

We found 8am fit breakfast too late, 730 would have been better. Also lunch at 130 was a bit late and 1230 would have been better.  Good breakfast and lunch buffets with a good selection. Dinner was filling and followed a solid format of soup, meat and potatoes, then sugary sweet. 

Very friendly staff.  Special mention to Knut who drove my wife and daughter over 200km to lillehammer after my daughter had badly sprained her ankle.

We'd also liked to have had boiling water in our rooms or in the lounge for tea outside of mealtimes.

Overall a good stay in a very pretty location with stunning views over the mountains.



Breakfast and lunch too late

This is a classic Norwegian Hoyfjellshotell. An older building, comfortable rather than luxurious, with old fashioned touches such as the handbell rung at 18.30 to announce that dinner is about to be served and the lounge where diners go to drink their tea or coffee afterwards.
Breakfast and lunch are the typical elaborate buffet of a huge range of dishes from healthy options to meat and cheese. Dinner is a served set meal with plenty of potatoes.

The hotel looks after its skiing guests with high quality ski rental, a large waxing room with benches and irons and almost daily preparation of the loipe. Sometimes you hear the machine going out at 0600 in the dark to prepare the routes for the day. There is a hut about an hour's ski away and the driver stops there to light the wood burning stove and replenish the water and juice ready for the guests who might drop by from mid-morning onwards.

This hotel is clearly a favourite with customers returning year after year, often in family groups of grandparents, parents and children who enjoy the swimming pool apres ski
