We were coming down from Nordkapp and it was close to 0°C when we passed by Gildetun. We got a twin bed cabin and couldn't have slept better. The next morning, we came to the breakfast table at 9:59. Even though the breakfast was about to be over, the lovely owner let us eat for another half hour. This was definitely a very good note in our Norway experience!

P.S.: The views over the fjord with the midnight sun are incredible!

Several times I passed by there on the way to Northern Cape. (Notice. The place is only open a few weeks in summer) until we stayed one time. Apart that we had enjoyed the view several times, we did nt expect much of the facilities. But it was a pleasant surprise. The cabins are very comfortable and the restaurant was well attended by friendly and professional cooks and attendants. When time for departure reached we had to force the people to get onto the bus.

Pros: you should visit Gildetun because of its view. Stunning. The cabin we spent night was large and very clean and beds were comfortable. Included shower and toilet and you didn't have to pay extra for dog. There is good space to walk around in that great nature. 

Cons: no cooking possibility or even refridgerator. It is quite rare in Norway. Price has some extra because of the place. Absolutely no vegetables at breakfast table but other ways breakfast is okay. 

Stayed one nights as a part of a big Danish group traveling from Oslo to North Cape. Did not expected much but a pleasant surprise! Conveniently located just on the E6 road on Mt. Kvænangsfjellet, 412 metres aboeve sea level. Not much elsewhere but a GREAT view from the roomy terrace. The breakfast, continental buffet, was VERY simple! The only hot items were boiled eggs, coffee and hot water. Breads seems like the one bought in plastic bag in a supermarket. Even though many people at the same time, you did not feel like it was crowded (lot of space between the tables). A friendly staff, but a bit invisible. Before arrival we had e-mail with the hotel asking for a room with two single beds,  - AND we did get it. Stayed in room 29 (one of the room in the main building). The view from our room were very nice, no fantastic, mountains and sea. A simple plain room, clean, beds comfortable, a ok bathroom (vinyl floors and walls) with an not very effective shower (water pressure more or les NOT existing, but in the sink the water pressure was normal), but on the other hand a heated floor. No shampoo but just an universal soap for both body and hair, but thats ok. I could suggest a bath mat to avoid wet floor when you steep outside. No fridge. No coffee or tee facility in the room. I missed some coat hangers. Free reliable WiFi and fast and with a good bandwidth too. The food, dinner, was alright but the buffet could have a wider selection, salmon and a nice tasty thinly-sliced fried reindeer both with cooked potatoes and vegetables (peas and carrots) as side-dish. I miss the fresh "green" salat. Dessert very simple, a kind of apple peach porridge and chocolate pudding (not so powerful chocolate flavor).

Situated just off the E6 road on the Kvaenangsfjellet mountain. A great place to stop. Not much else nearby apart from some great views.

The room was clean and the bed comfortable. We only stayed 1 night and used the hotel restaurant. The best baked salmon I have every had in my life. The owner is also the cook and prepared a fantastic meal. drink prices also very reasonable.

The cabins look like a lot of fun, shame we did not get one.

Good refuge for when you don't want to camp, lovely service

Comfortable and interesting hotel

The location is magnificent with views of the fjord and the islands. The hotel is more like a hostel I think. Very simple standard but good food (the salmon for dinner was delicious.) My room was simple but perfectly okay. Thought it smelled a bit of mold in the corridor outside but it didn't do me any harm.

Magnificant location

This nicely located roadside guesthouse, cafe, and lookout point is a worthwhile stop when traveling north or south on the E6.  Situated over a promentory and bend in the highway, over 500 meters up, it has a commanding view of the fjord and islands below in a vast panorama.  The view is undoubtedly spectacular (and will always be).  Even in the surrounding mountains one sees snow year round and grazing reindeer.
 
The inn and cafe however seems to be in decline since it's heyday.  In the beautiful summer months it should be packed, but nowadays it seems much slower, much emptier.  Even the Saami shoppes outside seem to rarely be open most days.   

Nevertheless I do recommend this as a roadside stop.  Have a waffle and coffee, or an ice cream, see the fantastic view and the magnificent woodwork.  I feel like Gildetun has potential still as an attraction unto itself with a little marketing and development.  It is still one of my favourite spots to show to visitors.

Still Good, But Honestly in Decline

The hotel itself is very basic, nothing special in the restaurant or anywhere else. Room is actually very basic, no fridge or tv. View is very nice and there is very good surroundings for easy or more challenging walks.
