Stayed here for a couple of nights while working in Kongsberg. It's a really nice friendly small hotel situated in a very scenic area.
The room was modern and spotlessly clean, it even had an alarm/radio with iphone dock. The shower was large and had plenty of hot water, and the bed was clean and comfortable, so that satisfied my usual requirements 
Breakfast was the usual buffet style, again no complaints.
Free WiFi worked well.
There are only a few hotels in Kongsberg itself which seem to be full most of the time, so this is an excellent alternative situated approx 16klm/20 mins away.

Nice, warm and friendly

I was moved to this hotel because all those in Kongsberg were full. The taxi driver had trouble finding it, but it's the only hotel in Svene so you cannot miss it.
I arrived early and was told check in is 1500 so I went for a walk along the snow covered road up to the little church. It's very picturesque and worth the walk of 0.5km. There is also a lovely little bridge in the other direction that gives some great photo opportunities of the river.
I arrived back and was shown to my room which was basic, but adequate. The area is incredibly quiet and if it wasn't so cold I could have had the window open without being disturbed.
I had dinner in the restaurant which is very popular with the locals at weekends and I can see why. The food is superb with duck the specaility and some excellent wines to try. Go with the owners recommendation and you will not be disappointed.
There's a cosy little TV lounge where you can watch a very good selection of channels on a large TV and chat to the other residents. There's also a bar downstairs.
This little hotel is far better than those in town and is much better value too. If you don't mind the extra travelling then choose this one for a relaxing and welcoming stay.

Better than the hotels in Kongsberg

We stayed here for one night during our driving holiday in southern Norway. The hotel is well situated in a quiet, rural area and only a few kilometres north of Kongsberg. The owners were very friendly and welcoming, the room clean and well appointed (+ free wifi) and a generous breakfast was served in the dining room. We also ate there on the evening of our arrival and weren't disappointed. This small hotel represents great value for money.

A Great Little Hotel

We stopped here during our vacation in Norway. The hotel looks much better on the inside than it shows on the outside and has quite some communal space. There is a bar as well as a sitting and tv watching room. Besides this there is also a restaurant. The rooms were spaceous enough and had good beds and other amenities. The included restaurant had good food.

This hotel, although nicely situated (close to the ferry as well as the nice Heddal stave church), may not look very special from the outside, but it offers unexpected luxury and service within!

The rooms are very comfortable and modern, and so is the general "living" area downstairs, which has some nice sofas to relax in. And the hotel has a great dining area where the owner and several other cooks serve great (local) food. 

Our hosts were very friendly and told us that we should definately visit the Heddal stave church, which turned out to be great. We always felt very welcome during our short stay, and if we would find ourself in this area again, we'd come back to the Svene Gjestegard.
