A very calm and cosy place with nice views and friendly animals. Highly recommend!

Calm atmosphere with the cuddliest sheep, goats, cat, dog and bunnies. Loved that everything had a homemade and very welcoming touch with good and hearty food accompanied by beautiful views and kind people!

Amazing experience, a nature and animal lovers dream.

One of our favorite moments of our trip to Norway, the hotel was a relaxing oasis.  The staff was friendly, the food was delicious, especially the breakfasts.  We enjoyed our time here so much.

Amazing place with breathtaking views. Me and my partner went for a getaway on my birthday. Northern lights were beautiful and the service from the staff was so nice couldn’t recommend a better place!

Our stay at Yggdrasil was amazing! It's truly a unique place. The dinners are out of this world, chef quality local cuisine served in a spectacular setting. If you are looking for a relaxing get away you will have a hard time topping this place! My only watchout for first timers to Tromso is that it is a pretty good distance from the city centre and airport. 45  minute drive. The owners did a great job with our transportation needs, but you do need to plan ahead and schedule with them. We didn't use a taxi, but I would assume that if you can find one willing to come pick you up it will be a very expensive ride. That said, this is as charming of a place as you will find anywhere in the world and the scenery is breathtaking. The owners are meticulous when it comes to taking care of things. We will definitely be back!!!!

The Hotel is clean and has an amazing view and the service is very friendly, professional and accommodating. The food is exquisite, high quality and well cooked.

short version: cozy, clean, & relaxing. Comfy beds. Good food. Great for getaways. But if you’re doing multiple excursions, the drive can be draining & eat into your vacation. Staff was friendly. Owners not so much. 
Detailed version: Absolutely charming! Very clean & comfy. My mom & I stayed in cabin #4 & it’s right next to the dining hall. The cabin has 2 rooms, an entryway, & a bathroom. One room had a built-in bed, nightstand, windows, & chair. The other room had a built-in bed, nightstand, windows, & another separate bed with different covers & possibly a different mattress. The built-in beds we so soft & cozy! Both rooms had small, plug-in radiator heaters & they’re super efficient! There are no dressers or cabinets for clothes so we left  ours in our suitcases & put them open under our beds. There’s lots of open space under the beds (may be a nice idea to convert part of that into cubbies or drawers?). You will need outlet converters if you’re not from Europe. 

The bathroom has a small sink, toilet, shower, one shelf & hair dryer. Toilet paper is provided. And liquid hand soap that smells fantastic. One bath towel & one hand towel provided per guest (more available upon request). **no wash cloths** so bring your own. The entry way to the cabin has heated tile flooring which was a nice touch. No outside shoes are to be worn in the bedrooms or bathroom, so shoes are to be removed in the entryway. It would be very helpful to have a chair or bench here for shoe removal/application. There are coat hanging hooks along 2 of the walls in the entryway which was great. The bedroom doors & bathroom door all have hanging hooks on them. Thank you!!! Such a big help. It would be very helpful to have a few more shelves for toiletries and small belongings. There’s plenty of wall space in the rooms & bathroom for free-floating shelves. 

The dining room consists of 6-8 tables. Some are 2-seaters. Some are 6-seaters and can be rearranged as needed. Soft, relaxing music plays in the background while you’re served delicious foods made straight from their kitchen, with some of it sourced from their farm. The ambience is really peaceful. You must try the carrot cake & the almond cake. Both were fantastic!!! They have several blends of teas. Coffee & cappuccinos are available. There are some lamb skins from their own farm available for purchase along with handmade soaps, knitwear, & other items. There’s a living room with couches upstairs in that building. Outside shoes are not allowed past the entryway so it helps to brings slippers or thick socks. 

The parking lot designated for guests is down a significantly steep hill. Maybe a hundred yards or so in distance. Parking at your cabin is allowed only during brief moments like loading/unloading your vehicle. If the owner sees your vehicle parked outside the cabin for longer than 15 minutes, you will receive a knock on the door with a somewhat urgent request to move your vehicle. This becomes especially tricky if you’ve gone into town for an excursion & arrive back at the hotel just in time for dinner. With dinner being scheduled during a window of 1900-2030, time can be crunched to get back in time for dinner. This happened to us twice. We temporarily parked outside our cabin so we could walk to the dining hall in time for dinner & planned to move the car after dinner. Both times, the owner approached us with requests to move our vehicle. He does a great job of keeping the driveway & pathways plowed; a big task, no doubt. But the urgency in his requests for us to move our vehicle immediately at 8:15pm seemed unwarranted while we were trying to enjoy finishing dinner. Especially considering that the plowing doesn’t take place until early morning hours. 

I do NOT recommend walking this hill without shoe spikes when there’s snow on the ground. And I definitely don’t recommend walking this hill at all for anyone with mobility limitations. As we were leaving, we saw two guests carrying their full-size suitcases down this icy hill, most likely because of the strong request not to have your vehicle parked near your cabin, or the hotel. I see this as a significant safety risk and large liability on part of the owners

The staff, especially Ursula, are very friendly. When we arrived it was dinner time. We quickly unloaded our vehicle & I went to dinner (my mom was too sick from food poisoning so she went to bed). The check-in process consisted of me giving the waiter my name & him handing me the key to our cabin after verifying our reservation. The dinner was a delicious soup with bread & butter & again the ambience was perfection. Even though I was eating by myself, I felt no need to be on my phone or do anything but simply relax. This place draws u in like that. <3 It would be helpful to get a rundown of the place & logistics upon check-in. Things like: here’s how/where to interact with the animals, here’s a map of the property (i.e. the northern lights cabin/hut), etc. It’s quite possible this information is given during a normal check-in when they’re not in the middle of serving dinner. Some of the info is online which is helpful. 

Summary: if you’re wanting a quiet get-away, this place is the spot. It’s lovely! And so peaceful. However, if you’re wanting to do excursions (2 or more) that are not associated with the hotel, I highly recommend staying in the city. All excursion meeting points we went on (dog sledding, northern lights tour, reindeer sledding)were in the city which is a solid hour drive from the hotel. That added 2 hours of travel to our day everyday. It was exhausting. It is also important to note that this hotel has excursions available. I’m not familiar with the location of the meeting point but if it’s close, that could be an easy solution. And worth a little extra $.

Great for a getaway. Not ideal location for excursions.

We had the pleasure of booking an ice bathing experience here and were floored by how amazing it was! Our guide was knowledgeable, experienced, and easy to talk to, leaving us with an unforgettable experience. Highly recommend the hotel and the experience! Just make sure if you're coming from Tromsø you coordinate with the hotel for transportation back to the city in advance or rent a car. We plan on coming back as soon as we are able!

Unforgettable Ice Bathing Experience 

Possibly my favorite place I have ever stayed! Choosing a favorite part of this stay is tough - between the hot tub, the trek to the Northern Lights Cabin, the dog sledding, the cabin with a 360 view of the outdoors ...and of course the homemade food. Maria and Aven made us feel like family and were the best hosts. Incredibly relaxing and the perfect place to reset and connect with nature. Coming all the way from the US, I really hope to visit again one day. Thank you to the whole staff for an amazing experience I won't soon forget! 

The best stay!

Simply a magical place! The host family is incredibly friendly so you feel like staying with friends. The breakfast is gorgeous and we absolutley recommend having dinner there as well - everything is homemade and lots of ingredients are directly from the farm. The animals are so lovely and making this place really special. There are sheep, goats, chicken, a horse, rabbits, birds and dogs❤️ It is simply a place to relax, quiet and peaceful. And you can see northern lights right outside your door!

A magical place!

This place is the perfect getaway location in a remote Norwegian landscape. While enjoying the serenity of the region you have all the comfort you can wish for. From the warm rooms to the delicious breakfast until the authentic dinners, everything was perfectly managed by the lovely owners and their staff. They also have different options to do around the hotel. I recommend going into the mountains, on snow shoes when there is snow or make a reservation for the hot tub and sauna. They have a lot of animals that like a good cuddle and a cosy lounge area to work in or just have a relaxing rest while enjoying the views. We will return for sure in the future because we fell in love with this location! 

The perfect location to enjoy the Norwegian way of life.

What an amazing experience!  We were lucky to stay here for 2 nights over October break with our 13 and 11 year old sons.  We arrived and were ushered into our beautiful rooms in the main "hotel" building.  They were new, well equipped and VERY comfortable.  Dinner and breakfast were served in the lovely dining room and both were absolutely delicious.  Local ingredients such as reindeer, blueberries, raspberries, homemade bread, and homegrown veggies were the stars of the show.  Everything felt very much farm to table and my boys devoured every bit.  We all enjoyed spending unlimited time with the animals on the farm.  The sheep, goats, horses, and even the chickens liked to be petted and snuggled, much to my boys' delight.  We hiked in the hills, picked blueberries and cranberries, and let the peace and tranquility of the ocean and farm seep in.  Our second night was clear so we decided to walk to the field to stargaze.  With Froya, the pony, at our heels, we set up some wood pallets and started identifying constellations.  Imagine our delight when the northern lights decided to put on a show!! A pony to keep you warm and the most ethereal light show ever going on overhead....it was a once in a lifetime experience.  Maria and her husband go out of their way to make you feel welcome, relaxed, and a part of this peaceful place.  We didn't want to leave and, when we return to Tromso, Yggdrasiltunet will be the base for our adventures.  Thank you so much for the fabulous stay!

Amazing, relaxing, wonderful....

Absolutely perfect - peaceful, beautiful, comfortable and welcoming. The accommodation and restaurant facilities are lovely, the food is home cooked and delicious, there is plenty of parking and the hot tub is heavenly. We saw the northern lights on site every night, but travelled out for even better views with zero light pollution. Tromso is an easy drive away (about 45 minutes) and you can get to Sommarøy in about 30 minutes. 

Everything we hoped for and more 

Where to begin!!! The property is beyond charming with breathtaking vistas from atop the hill, perfect for stargazing and catching a glimpse of the Aurora. Maria and her little shadow Ebla were warm and inviting and Silvia made the most incredible food we have ever tasted. The environment that the entire fantastic staff creates promotes total and complete relaxation. If you are light hunting, this is the perfect place to do it, as even if you aren’t lucky enough to experience them, your trip will not be a disappointment. This is a magical place, and staying in cottage #1 absolutely filled my heart with joy to be able to open the window and be greeted by all of the beautiful animals that reside right outside of your door. Loved Loved Loved it. Thank you for such amazing hospitality and memories that I will cherish always.

The most magical place ...

We found this hotel after months of looking for somewhere that delivered on location and quality and we were over the moon to find out this hotel ticked all the boxes. 

We stayed in the king size room with mountain view in the newer building which was perfect: clean and cosy! The food in the restaurant was delicious and the breakfast was amazing. The facilities were second to none with a hot tub, sauna and bar all within the hotel. Maria and the rest of the staff were so kind and attentive, making sure we had everything we wanted including beers in the jacuzzi and giving us tips on how to get places. 

We were initially worried about the location of the hotel as isn’t in Tromso itself and we had a whale watching tour booked early on the Sunday. Luckily, Maria ensured someone drove us in the early hours to where we had to meet which was very kind! 

From talking to others who stayed in Tromso, we couldn’t have been happier that we stayed outside of the city. The buses were easy to navigate and we got in and out of Tromso no problem and it meant we were fully immersed in the Norwegian Arctic landscape. 

The view from the hotel was incredible, you could fully relax with a peaceful view of the Fjords and we even saw the Northern Lights from outside the hotel on two of the nights we were there. This was a big selling point for us as it meant we didn’t have to pay to go on Northern Lights excursions. 

Couldn’t recommend enough, thank you to everyone at Yggdrasiltunet for helping us have the trip of a lifetime! 

Everything we had wanted

Everything was high quality, we stay warm cozy room with a lot of lights. Food was great homemade and very tasty. We enjoyed a nice jacuzzi followed by a camp fire cabin.
We felt kind of a Christmas joy during out stay there. 
I recommend this place for everyone who likes to see how life is in the country side. The place is also children friendly.
