Excellent front desk - thanks “Todo” , and his sister and  gentle Calypso cat! Very  quiet,  clean , dark back room - air con or fan - awesome deck overlooking the central parque - close to everything. Good kitchen for use and buena cafe in the am. Low key - good value! Pura Vida!

Was looking for a place to stay for 1 night and end spending a week,what a place to be,amazing welcome check in by toto the receptionist,very friendly staff in the best location in town,they helped me with diving trips and dolphin tour,good kitchen with all facilities and good wifi,after all awesome atmosphere in a spotless colonial building place,aircon and bathroom in the room was a bonus, definitely a must in bocas del toro

Best location

I stayed 10 days in bocas del toro and i slept in 4 different hostel . Calipso is absolutely the best . Big rooms , super clean , the kitchen fully furnished and the have a really good breakfast included . The Italian owners are always helpfully and friendly , they know everything about the islands . I ll be back for sure . The location it's perfect ( they are in the main street )

Really liked it- very nice staff, made me feel comfortable the minute i came, the hostel looks very good and welcoming, the prices are very reasonable, you get towels, the rooms and the shower are clean, the breakfast (yummy pancakes😍) is included, the rooms are big, and you have a nice balcony.
The only "bad thing": lack of hot water. (But it's just fine 'cause Bocas is warm).

This is my favorite hostel in isla colon in bocas del toro :)

Great hostel

Clean but old rooms - very friendly stuff - breakfast is just 2 pancakes and a black coffee  - good for the price (35 dollar private room for two) 

nothing more to say trip advisor! have to reach 200 letters.

Calipso Apartmentos and Calipso Hostel in Bocas del Toro, Panama are run by the same owner and manager. So, my half-year experience in the Apartmentos may be
 useful for those who look for short term stay, e.g. in a hostel, too.

I didn't have hot water nor functioning fridge for over a month, the missing TV set and curtain around the shower were never put back in six months. Everything was worn out, long overdue to replace. WIFI, promised to be fast, worked at the speed of a rheumatic snail, often broke, up to half-a-day. Water and electricity also frequently went off for several hours in this building. The water, when ran at all, was often brownish yellow.

The tone of the owner and her representative was preposterous (TripAdvisor instructed me to remove the owner's name, however, she posts on the property's website; look it up she deserves the 'credit'). They bluntly shrugged off responsivity, tried to smear on a third party or even myself.

Finally, the owner flatly refused to give back my deposit, USD460, with the baseless excuse that I hadn't left the place clean enough and I should've bought new matrass. In fact, I'd left it clean, and I hadn't done any harm to the matrass or anything; I used everything properly and carefully, exactly that I paid the high rent for. Her real reason was that I had to catch my flight, and I don't speak Spanish, so I was helpless.

No hot water, fridge for over a month, etc.; steal deposit

Unfortunately I didn't read the reviews on here before we booked as it was last minute. We stayed at calipso 2 nights because the other bed and breakfast was booked out (surfari-great place to stay!)

First night my two friends woke with bites on them and we thought it was mosquitos, then the second night I saw two bed bugs on my bed, one which was sucking blood from my arm. We also noticed the sheets had blood stains and dead skin from the bugs. It was 12pm so we went to the front and told reception as we could not sleep, he said he would give us new sheets but this didn't work so we changed rooms along with 3 other people in our room at around 1am. The beds we moved to had no sheets or pillows, so we were sleeping on plastic. Woke up with bites all over us, and told reception she said it's not their fault and travellers bring them in.
I asked if there would be any compensation and she no they could only put our clothes in the dryer to try and kill them. 

I understand bed bugs are hard to get rid of but it seems like an ongoing issue in this hostel and they are not taking the correct measures to try and fix it (e.g replace blood stained sheets and pillow cases and get someone in to terminate the bugs), also say sorry to the people it happened to and offer a refund or partial refund. There are correct ways to handle this situation and it's not being done here. 
I Would not recommend this place to stay until they have resolved this issue.
