Beautiful on the water bungalows‼️ Excellent reception and staff. Above & beyond personal service and very detailed oriented‼️ A wonderful place to stay on your visit. We had no problems on our lovely stay. The food was very good and we had an amazing time...

Exceptional, on the Water Bungalows‼️

My wife and two boys (12 & 9) just came back from a wonderful stay at Eclypse de Mar. The over the water bungalows were a unique and fantastic experience. We loved having breakfast in the room as the boys jumped in the water. The nature walk in the back is real jungle. We saw all kinds of fish below the bungalow and enjoyed feeding the fish from the coffee table. A few things to know. You can only get to and from the hotel by water taxi. Bring more cash than you expect. To get around the archipelago, we had a driver take us around in a water taxi and borrowed snorkel gear from the hotel. We liked the flexibility but they seem to offer more formal excursions. The music from bars across the bay carries over the water and I needed the ear plugs the hotel provided. We were told that Sunday nights are particularly bad. There's no air conditioning but the breeze was wonderful, even though everything was damp from the humidity. Finally, know that you can't flush toilet paper down the toilet, they have trash cans in the bathroom. It takes an adventurous spirit, but this experience was one of our favorite parts of Panama.

Unique and meaningful experience

We just returned from 2 days at Eclypse de Mar. I made the booking thru the hotel and was suppose to pay upon arrival One month before our arrival date they put the full charge thru my credit card. I thought no big deal we’re going anyway but the next day they put an April/May 20% off sale on their site Guess they were afraid I’d cancel and rebook at the lower rate! Which I had every right to do That wasn’t very professional When I mentioned it at check in there was no comment So beware you never know when you will be charged 

We arrived and were lead to our room It was beautiful, spacious and right over the water 
We ordered food and received our welcome drinks and took a swim off our steps It was wonderful We then had dinner at their restaurant which was also very good But now it’s 10 pm and 81 degrees There is a fan over the bed but when it’s that hot it doesn’t help Then it rained and what little breeze we had stopped We took cold showers and tried to sleep We could hear music in the distance til about 2am As our bungalow was facing the other way it wasn’t too bad but I can see how the music would disturb rooms on the other side The power is on from 6 pm until 9 am but you can’t use a hair dryer or straightener 

The next morning they served a wonderful breakfast in the room It was delicious and nicely presented We were gone all day and out to dinner elsewhere but once again it was 82 degrees at 10 pm and nearly impossible to sleep. 

We had 2 great days at Eclypse de Mar and 2 difficult nights We were there in April I heard other months are cooler at night Yes it was a wonderful experience but sleeping in 80 degrees is not easy

Great days Super hot nights

It's an amazing place. Incredible.  Peaceful, and surrounded by nature.
The bungalows are well designed to enjoy the view as much as possible. 
The people working there are lovely and always trying to give us the best experience. Just as one example of that high service quality, Alfred, one of the receptionists, gave us an immediate solution to our requests, which changed all our experience.  The food is great as well!!  Next time in Bocas we will be there again :)

Incredible place, you never will forgot the experience!

So great! A little splurge for us but so worth it!!! A nice degree of separation from busy Colon. Boat taxis are available whenever you want. The restaurant/bar served delicious meals and your choice for breakfast, either in the restaurant or in your bungalow.  The very best part....the bungalow. Fabulous, spacious, comfortable bed and steps into the Caribbean right off your private deck. The water was clear and you can even snorkel right around the bungalow. Do it! So special!


Bucket list 

The hotel is beautiful it’s really nice! Our room was over the water and was kept  clean the staff is also nice and friendly. We went to celebrate my birthday with a group of friends and  really enjoyed our stay. The food was also  good. 

This is an “Eco-friendly hotel” which means that  they depend on solar panels and you don’t have electricity in your room during the day. If you need to charge your phone you must go and way by the reception/ restaurant and wait. They turn on the electrical power at 6pm and it’s on till 9am. 

Unfortunately, on  our last day they had no running water so we couldn’t shower or use the bathrooms that was a big NO for us.  I can  deal with not having electricity during the day but running water is a necessity.

The most dreamy place you can go to

We spent 3 nights at Eclypse de Mar.  We were in the honeymoon bungalow 5 & they set it up with 2 twin beds & a king for our family of 4, which was really nice!  The food was good (we ate breakfast & dinner here each day) And they organized our tours as private tours for the 2 1/2 days we had there.  The property & staff & food are really nice....but the neighbors across the water play really loud music into the wee hour of the morning...Friday & Saturday  night they went to 3:30am, Sunday night 1:30am...there's no AC, so you have to leave your windows open for air & the noise was really awful!  Sure, there are earplugs- but water in your ears from snorkeling/swimming & earplugs aren't a good combo, not to mention, earplugs don't really work & they often hurt.  Bring your own noise protection if you do decide to stay here...we'd go elsewhere, honestly!

Food was delicious- breakfast & dinner both were really good, there is enough variety at dinner for 3 nights, but beyond that you'd probably want to start venturing out.  We ate lunches wherever our guide stopped us at, all of which was good- be safe & take cash with you for these lunches, they are not all credit card (or ask before you go).  Hotel does keep a cash box you can buy cash from them at about a 3% rate.  You can also add your tips to your checkout with the hotel.

Tours- it was really nice to have Eclypse arrange our tours for us, the prices were the same as what the guy who brought us in the water taxi to the location said.  Nico was really great, a careful & experienced boat driver, spoke English well, and obviously really enjoyed his job & being with people...amazing how much fruit he cut up for us!  Alejandro was our 'guide' for our day at zapatilla & our half day when we arrived.  Our primary purpose for visiting Bocas was to snorkel...and they did their best, water is warm, visibility was not very good, there weren't a lot of fish & coral was patchy & not in the best of condition.  We snorkeled hospital point the first day, Starfish Beach & a spot nearby the second, and near Zapatilla the third.  The last spot near Zapatilla snorkeling by boat out in the open behind where the waves had already broken was the best & easiest, the rest was a lot of work.   Alejandro was really informative & knew a lot about what we were seeing & did a great job sharing it (his brother was with us the day Alejandro was off & he didn't share so bird island was pretty uninformative (but Alejandro was supposed to go here with us maybe that's why! and a couple of us were almost seasick anyway so our time was short) Alejandro also introduced us to dive boarding which was so much fun, we highly recommend you ask for it!  We would really recommend that Eclypse de Mar have a go pro for their guides to use & then maybe sell the photos/videos to guests....or let guests 'rent' a go pro for their guide & then give them the results.  Alejandro used our go pro for the dive boarding, which worked out great...but when we did our last snorkel near Zapatilla (the best snorkel) he took it & didn't stay with us snorkeling....so we have pictures/videos of things we didn't even see & none of the 8 foot ray or the school of squid we did see...bummer!  (Alejandro should stay with his snorkelers, too, though!)  We did very much enjoy our time with Alejandro & Nico, though!

We definitely wouldn't go back to this part of Panama should we return...we'd go to Isla Palenque again where it's quiet & more peaceful!

Great place/staff!  Terrible neighbors if you like to get to sleep before 3:30am!

Wow, what an experience.  We stayed in the 4 person over-water hut.  It was the last bungalow down the pier so we were certainly spoiled.  You get a bit friendly with your mates as there is one bathroom and although one couple gets the 4-poster bed, the other gets the two singles in the living quarter.  That said, the experience is unbeatable!  WE went swimming down our stairs everyday and used the kayaks as well.  Breakfast was really good (you put your order in the night before).  Dinners were great as well.  WE were given recommendation to go fishing with a local.  WE caught kingfish, mackerel and bonita.  We brought several back to Eclypse (and gave the rest to the captain - we caught 18 inside two hours).  The staff were wonderful - Mimi in the kitchen and Alfredo at the desk.  Oh, and when we went fishing, the wives took advantage of teh nature reserve which they absolutely loved!!

Go Here - You Will Love It!

We've always dreamed of staying in over-water bungalows, so when we planned our trip to Bocas del Toro and saw Eclypse de Mar, we had to check them out. I cannot recommend this place highly enough. It is absolutely amazing. While it might be a bit pricier than many options in the area, it is so worth it in every way. The bungalows themselves are clean, beautiful, peaceful, and magical, but it doesn't end there by any means. The entire "package" of Eclypse de Mar is simply perfect. The staff is warm, friendly and helpful. (Thanks Nico and Alfredo) The food and drinks are delicious (thanks Erikka and Pierre for your hospitality and delicious creations!!) and reasonably priced. I don't remember everyone's names, but all staff were wonderful. The facilities and attached jungle preserve are beautiful and provide many places to relax and/or be adventurous. We saw amazing birdlife, sloths, and red frogs in the jungle, and used the kayaks, paddle boards and snorkel gear they provide to explore the surrounding waters. The boat tours that Eclypse offers are great as well. Alejandro and Nico took us through the bay with dolphins, then on to Zapatillo Cays for some cold beers on the beach, some exploring, snorkeling, Amphibian boarding, and then surprised us with a wonderful artistic buffet of sweet, fresh fruit (and more beer :-) Then we stopped for lunch at tiny restaurant on the water. Amazing day! We originally booked two nights at Eclypse but fell in love with the place and people instantly, so we asked if another night was available. It was, and our days and nights spent there and around the area were blissful perfection.
