It was a lovely stay. The common area is very beautiful and calm and the people working there were super helpful and lovely. There’s a kitchen with everything you neee, including coffee machine.

We stayed in a double bed private room, which was small but really practical.

Lovely stay

We stayed here for 3 nights on the final part of our trip to Panama. To be fair we didn’t do any research, just on recommendation from a previous place we stayed. We had a quick look at the website where it is described as a two story colonial house which has been kept in its original state for guests to enjoy. This is true to a certain extent but there has clearly been no effort to restore or maintain that ‘original state’ as the building and rooms (certainly the one we were in) looked quite tired and unloved. 

The breakfast was an average affair. Coffee, a few types of tea, bread jam etc. There was fruit and scrambled egg but you really had to get up early for this because when it ran out it was not replenished. 

The staff are lovely, the housekeeper in particular, who we felt had a major job on her hand to clean the rooms and bathrooms which were often unacceptably left by fellow guests.

The owner, we believe,  was on the premises at some point during our visit as we think we saw her making deliveries with other staff. There was no attempt to engage with any of the guests by her so we can’t be absolutely sure it was her.

All in all it was quite a disappointing stay. Perhaps we were just fussy and expected more. As I say if you’re backpacking and on a real budget this might be absolutely fine for you as certainly the price you pay is very reasonable. However, when you’re travelling half way around the world to visit places, the cheaper option is not always the number one priority. With a little bit more love, effort and attention to detail this could be a lovely place to stay.

Ok............if you’re a backpacker

Never had such a bad experience in an hostel before. Someone in the room told the reception that some of her money got lost or stolen. I came later to extend one more night and I’ve been told that everyone in the room has to check out. (Apparently everyone was supposed to leave anyway but me)
They even didn’t let me to book a private room.  I felt in their altitude that they actually blaming me for that. Had to spend my last day in Panama finding another hostel.

Worst experience I’ve ever had in an hostel

My wife and I stayed at Posoda 1914 and loved our stay. All of the staff where friendly and welcoming. One of the things that surprised me the most was the climbing wall. I learned that the owners son is super into climbing and is helping to mark out new routes in Panama and be one of the first to do so. Every evening the wall filled with people climbing and that was interesting to watch. Johanna, one of the owners, was also telling us there is often a variety of cultural happenings that pass through the hostal. The hostal itself was artfully decorated way above your average hostal. A fantastic stay and one of the best value accommodation options in the city. Thank you.

Fantastic boutique hostal in the City!

Oh my gosh - my husband and I stayed for two nights at Posado 1914. I would call it an absolutely charming boutique hostal. It's one of the best value accommodations in the city. Upon first impression one can tell it was definitely well looked after and very clean. All the traveler basics were covered: nice hot shower, clean bathrooms, wifi worked great and there is a nice big kitchen to use. It is very secure and the reception is open 24 hrs which is very convenient if you have a late flight. This is a professionally run family business and it was a delight to stay there.

Super clean, cute, safe and great place to stay!

Stayed here for 5 nights while doing a Traveling Spanish School.  I titled it "A rose between two thorns" because this beautiful and charming little hostel is surrounded on all sides by high rise apartment houses.  It is colorful and cheary.  Friendly staff, came with light breakfast each morning consisting of various juices, filtered hot/cold water, white bread, peanut butter, butter, jelly.  They provided a toaster also.  The hostel is secured by wall and accessible by locked entrance only.  Rooms are small but certainly adequate.  My room had a fan also.  Shared shower was large, clean and adequate.  Outside seating area and also has a climbing wall on site.  On Friday nights they cook pizza in an outside brick oven.  Kitchen area is large with areas for personal items. Has washer/dryer on site for a fee.  Free internet and access is very good and also speed is very good.  Located only a couple blocks to a supermarket, restaurants, and a park.  Overall it was great for my first hostel experience.

A rose between two thorns

The most wonderful oasis among the tall buildings of the neighborhood. If you like hostels, you'll love this one. 

The beautiful Parque Urraca is 50 meters away, Riba Smith supermarket is around the corner, bus stops and the metro station are nearby, there's a bunch of nice restaurants at a walking distance, and the Cinta Costera is five minutes away.

However, the best thing about Posada 1914 is its people: extremely warm, welcoming and friendly. This place feels like home.

A wonderful experience

Very good hostel: well stuffed kitchen, for a hostel very clean, enough bathrooms, nice but tiny single bedroom. The garden is lovely and the area is save and you can walk to the Supermarket close by.
