We arrived in Aguas Calienties past midnight due to one of the worst travel days we have ever experienced. Our booked hotel was closed and refused to answer the door despite multiple emails and calls so we were stranded on the street after traveling for 20 hours straight (keep in mind we missed every flight and train possible). Thankfully, Angie's Hostel came to the rescue! The front desk woke up at 1am to check us in no hassles. We were asleep within 15 minutes. They then woke up at 5am to store our bag for free as we hiked up to Machu Picchu. AND when we were done the hostel, for a small fee, let us take showers when we picked up our luggage. They were super accommodating and nice to weary travelers. At this price you will not find anything better.

Willing to accomadate on the fly

If you are looking for some cheap place close to the bus, this might be it. It is close to the river, so the sound of river is astonishing. Interior is simple and warn up, but beds are comfortable. WIFI good. Service average.

Having read mixed reviews on hotels in general in Machu Picchu we came with low expectations. However unfortunately our stay here was tainted from the beginning. We arrived to the Hostal (Angie's off the main plaza) only to be advised by the lady at reception that we were in the wrong hostal (despite clearly having a booking). When we asked for further clarification, she dismissed us rudely and refused to offer us directions; indicating it was 5 mins away but offering us no further information.
This led to a half hour search for our hostal (at this stage it was dark and we were very hungry). We finally found the other Hostal. On our arrival here we were again advised we were in the wrong place.   However this obliging gentleman offered to walk us down to our hostal, and demonstrated to the lady where our booking was. 
The room was spacious and comfortable  but extremely loud,with music blasting outside until 4am. The room beside u us decided to have a party during the night as well which went on to a similar time.
Overall overpriced but fine for one night if you're not pushed to sleep that much. 

Inexcusable attitude, very noisy.

First things first - Aguas Calientes (deceptively called Machu Picchu by the tourist industry) is something you suffer through to get to (the actual) Machu Picchu, not something you choose to see. Everything (the service, the prices, the accomodation, you name it) is poor in this town and only there to squeeze the maximum out of your wallet. If you want accommodation that in Cusco would be 50$, here you'd have to pay 150$, so make sure to adjust your expectations accordingly. In this context, Angie's isn't bad. It gave us a roof for the one night we needed. The bed linen wasn't good but not the worst either. The bathroom was OK, but the hot water was there only in 5-second bursts. The towels were "borrowed" from a known hotel. The building itself was, of course, unfinished. Yet, this is all normal and every single place in Aguas Calientes (costing less than 150$) is almost guaranteed to suffer from the same problems. The room smelled a little funky, but then again, the whole town did too. The staff was trying hard to accommodate us (and promptly replaced the bad linen when we asked them) but unfortunately weren't very competent.
All in all, unless you're willing to properly shell out for that one night you need to spend in this town, Angie's isn't really a bad choice (you'll get some kind of shower and some hours of sleep to get you on your way), just know what to expect.

Not very good, but nothing in Aguas Calientes is

Hot showers, decent beds, decent breakfast that is more abundant than most hotels in this price class in peru that we've been in. Their boxed breakfast for machu picchu is not that good though. It's right next to the bus stop to machu picchu which is nice when having to go there at 4 am in the morning. 

They'll pick you up at the train station with a sign beating your name if you tell them the time that you arrive. They have good reliable wifi and the showers were also reliably hot. I took showers at different times of the day and never a problem. It can take a minute or 2 to get warm though.

They have 2 different hotels in aguas calientes that are named similarly. It didn't change locations like a previous review suggested.

One thing that we thought was really bad of them is that when we arrived at night they had left the window wide open with the light on. Aguas calientes is in the middle of a thick forest with many mosquitos and our window was right next to the river. So our room was completely full of (huge) mosquitos. The next day the cleaner had left the window open again. Can't blame them for having some mosquitos there, but leaving the window open at night with the light on is begging for them to come in.
