The Santa Marta hotel is a great boutique hotel with a nice feel to it close to the city centre.The bedroom and bathroom were nice and the hotel even shipped a waterproof to me which I had left behind -would thoroughly recommend it.


Awesome boutique affordable hotel!

The hotel is beautiful, indeed. As everything is that city. The city is amazing. The hotel team guys and girls are nice at their maximum level, trying to do their best. Problem is their best was way below the USD200/daily fee expectations.

The regular price is 4 times cheaper than what we payed… Due to the event "Perumin/2019', they decided to multiply the daily value... and instead of charging USD 50, they decided to charge USD 200/night... which misleads us to think of it as a 5-start quality service.

First problem is when we arrived, two adults, two rooms, thee nights (1200USD), they put us in two double-bed rooms and they said that next morning we would be moved to ""recently-renewed single bed rooms - the best apartments in the hotel"". They actually would need the double bed rooms for another reservation, of course.... They apologized saying they made a mistake and addressed previously booked rooms to other people, but we would get the two best one-bed rooms for the next two nights.

The rooms were we stayed that night had mis-attached sink faucet which was not fixed to the sink (room 202 and 203). Hot water was warm, not hot. Up to then, ok. But USD200/night??

Then we came down to the breakfast. If you check the pictures, you will see the lack of options. Keep in mind they charged USD 200/night. We left to the event, and they moved our luggage to the new rooms (208 and 209).

We arrived in that evening to check the new rooms. Indeed, more beautiful and clearly recently renewed. But the new rooms were so much better than the 1st night ones that we thought we deserved a discount for the horrible 1st night installations we received. But htey only gave us chocolate. 
But then the problems kept happening. There were two bottles of water in the room. I thought it was standard, but the two bottles were opened. One of them was partially filled / partially drunk. We understand the price shouldn’t be USD 200/night in any of those nights. At least they gave us chocolate as an apology, instead of converting the bad experience into discount. The bottles of water? Cleaning service had forgotten to remove the dirt from previous pax.

The bathrooms had new sink, new faucet, and everything was clamped correctly. But incredibly, you cannot know the cold/hot side of the faucet. Same with the shower there is no indication on which faucet brings the WARM water (it was not never HOT).
 
Also, incredibly, you do not have any kind of shelf or support in the shower where you could put your shampoo and your in-use soap. Check the Pictures. Internet in these two rooms had a horrible -> not operating signal, so I had to use my international data plan, instead of the hotel wifi…. Remember the USD 200/night? Why was I using my own internet?

On the second night, a group of foreigners arrived at 1AM. They made a lot of noise. We cannot blame the hotel for this. But the hotel-crew could orient the new comers that they should speak lower and avoid laughing out loud because there were other people trying to sleep. They were actually in the center of the hotel, having beer and laughing out loud. Next morning, the out-of-options breakfast again and we headed to Perumin. 

When we got back to the hotel, a few minutes of sleep for resting before going out to dinner. When I was leaving the room, I noticed a plastic sac that did not belong to me. Check the pictures. There was a hat, a half-drunk juice, a half-eaten candies pack, juice in plastic sacs, two opened and eaten butters, 2 bananas and so on…

I thought it belonged to another customer which visited my room in my absence… this would have been an amazing problem…. Then I took that material to the receptionist. The guy in there said, based on the Hat, that those items belonged to the maid.

Good is knowing that nobody had entered my room. But again: USD 200/night – and the maid forgets her personal belongings in the room? 

Remember the foreigner group? on the upcoming night, some of them went out for the night life, different groups, different places. They returned in different hours in the middle of the night/dawn. They were slamming at the hotel door several times, for several minutes before the receptionist wakes up to go there and open the door.

For the price we payed, isn’t it mouth-opening that they do not keep a person full time in the reception, even if it was only a doorman, only to avoid such discomfort? 

Then, on Friday, we asked for a cost-free late checkout, we needed to leave our stuff till 3PM,  and have a chance to use the hotel room. Girl said they usually charge 75% of a new day for allowing the pax to stay till 8PM. Which was not our case. The she argued that the only thing cost-free she could give us was a late checkout till 12h30. My friends. Do you all understand they charged USD 200/night, and wanted to charge USD 150 for an extender 3 hour period? – this is, when the hotel really costs only USD 50 / night in the rest of the year? We negotiated leaving at 1PM, without any extra cost, and leaving our luggage to be taken later.

Anyway, I had a totally bad impression of the service and as much as I try to value the people who served us, I also noticed a lot of ill will, lack of professionalism and even lack of knowledge of some professionals on how to treat well and seek good reviews.

Arequipa will certainly receive me again – but I hope I accommodate far away from this hotel.

USD 200 / night missleads us to a definitely Non-Existing Excelence standard.


Loved this place. Reminded me of Spain in so many ways. The rooms were generous in size and if you like orange, you’ll like it much more. The entrance is stunning as you can see from my photos. Easy check in at 2am in the morning. Beds comfortable and sheets clean. Wifi worked well. Toilet and shower were okay. Hot water takes a lot of time to come through. Sachet of shampoo and small bar of soap supplied. Nearly knocked myself out on the step into the bathroom – just didn’t see it. Had my washing done here for the princely sum of 14 solos. Clean and pressed in 24 hours.

Breakfast was held at the front of the building and we had omelettes or scrambled eggs, fresh fruit, cheese, ham, tomato, avocado, rolls, tea, coffee and fresh juices. Delicious.

Staff are lovely. Rooms clean and very quiet. Wifi works well.



Quaintest little place to stay close the all the action 

I cannot get over how beautiful this hostel was! Absolutely incredible and such a deal for the price.  We were able to walk to most places or catch a taxi where ever we needed to go.  The staff were very friendly and we enjoyed a quiet breakfast each morning.  We were sooo happy to have hot water (all of our other hostels in Peru did not).  I would definitely stay here again.

Beautiful Abode!

Stayed in this hotel as part of a group tour with Explore Holidays. 

Although relatively simple accommodation, it was clean, comfortable, wifi worked well and hotel is well located. 

My only criticism would be that breakfast can be a bit chaotic if too many people turn up at the same time. I do wonder why the hotel doesn't provide a buffet rather than waitress service which would help address the problem. 

Great hotel but sort out staffing in breakfast room 

Very friendly and helpful staff. Prompt responses to your emails. It is meticulously clean and rooms are big. Breakfast is as good. It is also very conveniently located to explore Arequipa. Have no hesitation in recommending.

Great Place To Stay in Arequipa

This hostel exceeded my expectations in every way. It was clean, the rooms were spacious and the bed was very comfortable. The room also includes free towels. 

The most outstanding part was its staff though. We arrived at 10am but they allowed us to check in early without charging extra. The airline lost my luggage and they were very helpful with making phone calls. Everything was without fault. 

Free breakfast included as well but unfortunately we had to leave very early both days.
