We had dinner and breakfast at Hostal Restaurante Chavin Turistico. It wasn’t busy the night we went there and the service was good. Our waiter spoke only limited English and we speak only limited Spanish, but he was helpful and friendly. We split the huge Sopa de Pollo (very tasty and filling), then my Trucha al Ajo was really excellent … the trout was huge, perfectly cooked and fell right off the bones. I assume it was caught locally? Two rivers meet in Chavin so maybe it was from there. My wife liked her Lomo Saltado and sweet cookies for desert. The location is convenient … around the corner from the hostal, and short walking distance from the Chavin ruins. We also stayed at the hostal, which I am not reviewing here, although I can say that the three-floor hostal has a tiny gated courtyard with room for one car where we parked. No one is on staff there … you ring the doorbell and someone comes around the corner from the restaurant to let you in. We were the only people in the building that night. It was pretty good, but not outstanding like the trout dinner! In the morning, we walked over to get the Deseyuno Americano with fried egg, Peruvian flat bread & marmalade, juice and cafe con leche (they had to run to the store for milk and by the time they got back the coffee was not hot). However, we liked the restaurant, food and staff a lot. There is no wifi there and they accept cash only.

Delicious Dinner in Chavin – Cash Only

Only ate at the restaurant which was recommended by my guide. Very clean and served good local food. Had chicken dish with rice and potatoes, which was simple but tasty. Very near the main square of the town. Would recommend.

Good food, clean restaurant

Recommended in lonely planet guide, very clean, tidy with plenty of piping hot water. Restaurant owned by the same family provides good reliable food. Hostal can be a little noisy - see if you can get a top floor spot. Don't miss the roof terrace for some relaxation in the sun

Clean, tidy family run hostal

Small hotel in a quiet side street, approx. a block from the associated restaurant. The  room was clean and comfortable. The archaeological site is a 2-minute walk and a "must see" when you visit Chavin.

Comfortable little hotel with

It's not the best hotel I've been but is not that they have better hotels in Chavin. The room was ok, the bed was comfortable (I brought my own pillow), it wasn't very cold during the night and the breakfast was good.
I didn't like that the hot water wasn't even enough for one person.
