4 stars? Really? Certificate of Excellence? Really!?!?

Wife and I spent 2 nights here in May 2018 - a Friday night and Sunday night. First the pros:

The room had a lot of windows and the views of the city are pretty good as you're at the top of a hill.  Also, breakfast was pretty good, too.  But that's about it.  I would never stay here again and I would never recommend anyone else stay here again unless all you care about is a view.  

The cons:

The room was freezing cold.  I like when it's cold in my hotel room, but the windows are thin and the heavy curtains don't keep the cold out and it gets super cold.  There is a wall heater in the room, but since the ceilings are so high, the wall heater does almost nothing.  Go ahead and keep it on all night, cowboy - it won't make a difference.  

I grade my hotels on two things: the bed (am I going to sleep well?) and the shower (is it going to wake me up?).  Don Bosco failed on both.  The bed, which is a full size bed, not a queen or king - was old and not supportive at all and barely fit my wife and I.  I was tossing all night when my hip would get tired and I would have to switch to the other side.  The shower's pressure could be described as slightly more than a trickle - don't wash your hair cuz you won't get the shampoo out.  Kudos on the water actually getting hot though - there's that. 

Additionally - TV didn't work (what was the point of the TV?), and we tried to get the wi-fi to work, but couldn't connect with the password they gave us, but maybe that was just us.  Also - did I mention it's freezing?  Make sure you're fully dressed and have your coat with you when you go eat breakfast as there's no heat anywhere.

I can confirm that the hotel sits right next to a school playground area and that your door is mere feet from where kids might be playing/practicing music.  However, we were gone each morning before 6:30 am so we didn't have to deal with that - be warned though. I believe we were the only people staying here on the Friday since they only had breakfast for the two of us the next morning.  Had I not paid for both nights on the Friday, we definitely would not have stayed here on the Sunday night. Reception was mostly cold and could not have cared less that we were there.  The guy that made us breakfast the first morning was very pleasant, though.  

You can do better for the price.

Never again...

Stayed here before the Inca trail for two nights. Great view overlooking Cusco. Rooms are clean and the bathrooms are pretty basic. Happy to stay here for the cost. Stairs walking up to the hotel is good preparation for the hikes. We noticed lots of dogs barking at night but can't blame the hotel for that (More of an observation). 

Cheap, clean

We loved our stay at Don Bosco! I stayed here with my partner for two nights prior to leaving for our Salkantay trek. I was heavily affected by altitude sickness upon arrival, and the staff made sure that we were checked in quickly, set up with tea and water, and shown to our room to rest. The hotel is located atop a hill, with a sweeping view of gorgeous Cusco from their quaint, succulent-filled balcony. It's just a quick walk to the city center, through lively streets or a quiet "shortcut" through a long set of stairs. The rooms were fairly basic but quite comfortable, with heaters and warm blankets for the chilly mountain evenings. Breakfast was simple but fresh. They hotel held our bags for us while we trekked, and the staff - always lovely and helpful - got us a cab to the airport. At a price point just above many of the local hostels, this was a phenomenal value as well.

Well-located home away from home!

Great place to stay. The hotel was very nice with a dash of fancy. The rooms are very large and spacious, room was clean, and beds were comfy as well. There is an outdoor patio for the guests to use on the second floor and hotel is on top of a hill with an amazing view of downtown Cusco. Since it is on top of a hill, you will have to walk uphill back. If you are not in great shape, I recommend taking a cab to get back. It is about a 10-15 minute walk to the main square of Cusco. 

2 night stay

We stayed in the hotel for two nights before leaving for Macchu Picchu overnight and returning to the hotel.  Both times we were in room 201 and the view of the plaza de Armas was amazing!  Pamoramic view right out your windows.  The room was clean and beds comfortable.  We had nice issues with hot water once the shower warmed up.  Room was a little cold at night, but they provided plenty of warm blankets so we were fine.  Staff was very friendly and accommodating.  They held our bags for free and called us taxis/checked us out super early in the morning with a smile.   Location is very close to the plaza de Armas but is at the top of a hill.  No problem if you take your time when acclimating.   We did experience some noise one night from passing cars but it was some kind of wedding party bus so what can you do?  All in all loved the location, style,and decor.  Would highly recommend.
