I have stayed in Flying Dog hostel in Lima, Arequipa, Cusco. This is the best of all. It's clean, comfortable and well maintained. The staff esp. Cesar Sotomayor and his assistant Angihe are super efficient, friendly, helpful and they may our stay very comfortable. We stayed 6 nights here. With the great staff we feel so much at home. Even the cleaners are helpful and friendly.
We will come back again in future. I strongly recommended this place to all travellers.

My brother and I stayed at the flying dog cusco for a week. The highlight of our stay were our hosts, Ricky and Ceasar. Those dudes were the best. Always there to help us out with anything we needed, always full of info about the area, and always able to sort out whatever tours we needed. Those two made our time in Cusco! They were super helpful and understanding, spoke enough English to  understand us gringos, and really made sure we felt informed, safe and that we were getting the most out of out trip. Best hostels hosts we’ve had hands down!!! 
If you boys read this, love you guys, and thanks for everything.

Amazing time at the flying dog cusco!

This hostal is near Plaza Amas and the Old city.  Staff very helpful  Breakfast included. Hot showers.  WiFi.  Very clean.  Beds comfortable.  I want to thank Rosio and Veronica for their help.  I definitely would return to thus hostal.

Wonderful Hostal

Not as advertised. Definitely different from my experience at the flying dog in Arequipa

Firstly, the hostel staff are very nice. Another positive is that it provides a free breakfast that will curb morning hunger before heading out for a real breakfast.

Please note that there are NO lockers even though they advertise having lockers - it's actually just a shelf. The showers are lukewarm at best and the broken window in it provides for a miserable experience. The dorm rooms are situated right beside the common room and bathroom, so you hear everything! You'll also have to navigate a ridiculous staircase that is near impossible with backpacker bags. The internet cuts out all the time, so even trying to escape by finding a new hostel proved a challenge. 

They also had workers right outside my room, which was probably a fluke, but not great to experience.

They are also the only hostel I've seen that charges to store your bags during a tour. 

There reality is that for what you pay, there are better options. Honestly, I found several private rooms with a private bathroom and breakfast for the same price.

So many better options.



Not as advertised

We had high expectations because we loved Flying Dog in Arequipa. The rooms (and entire place) are freezing...even the staff are seen wearing winter coats. There’s no outside space to relax and rooms on the second floor can be noisy with trekkers leaving in the early, early morning and the door buzzer ringing at night. For the price there are better options.

Give it a miss

This hostel is out to make a buck and does not value reservations. My partner and I made a reservation for a double private room and on arrival we were informed we did not have a resrvation, we were placed in a dorm for the night. We then went on a 4 day trekk and booked to stay in the flying dog for 2 nights on our return. This resvervation was made on the system as I witnessed a staff member make the reservation. Upon arrival after our 4 day trekk we were informed we did not have a reservation, it was 2 am in the morning and they essentially said sorry there's nothing they can do, that all the rooms were taken. If you are looking to book a hostel in advance and to be gaurunteed accomdation I suggest you book with another hostel.
On the plus side the staff are friendly and did try to help.

Issues with reservations

I stayed two nights in flying dog and actually everything seems to be okay. Its not a party place very calm, small and not many people there. I stored my bag in the hostel during my trip to Machu Picchu. As I came back one day later in the evening the woman at the reception (not miriam) was very unfriendly. I forgot my towel in my room the day before and she didnt want to let me go to take my towel. After a longer discussion I was allowed to get up and take the towel. Than she wanted to have 3 Soles for storing my bag!! I think this was not a rule made by the Hostel.. Just her own rules!! 
I will not come back to flying dog. Sad! Because the rest was okay when you are looking for a quiet place and dont want to have much contact with others.

Okay but unfriendly service

A good place for a few days. The location is very good - not right on the square but close enough and the room was very quiet. On our first stay, we were in room 8 which only had a window to the corridor. The bathroom had a very small window. The room often had a damp smell. On our second visit the room had a window and was much nicer. Try and avoid room 8. Breakfast was great - lots of choices. Wifi ok - a bit sketchy in the room but fine in the communal areas. Shower was very hot (once u fine tune it!) but very weak - not great for washing hair. The bed linen was clean and very cosy. After looking at other places, it's great for the price. 

Cosy hotel with great staff

The Flying Dog Hostel is a chain which offers accommodation in several different cities in South America. I stayed for one night and it was really nice. After visiting the Machu Picchu I needed a warm place with a nice breakfast and the Flying Dog Hostel was exactly the right place for that. The beds were excellent and the breakfast left no wishes over.
