When I see the 2017 reviews I think it's improved a lot! Staying in El Nido has become very expensive and Tarao is in a good quality/price ratio. Efforts have been made on the noise through a wall built on the street. The rooms are right for the price. WiFi works well, hot water too. Hard to find better for the same price.

That's right.

I really do think that staff makes a big difference with any hotel. Tarao is managed by Ipil Suites so all transactions happen there. Front desk staff at Ipil are very nice. They explain all necessary info. They let us shower in one of the rooms after we have checked out (for a reasonable fee).

Staff at the restaurant are just as nice. We wanted to order veggies for dinner but we didn't find good choices on the menu so they offered an off-the-menu dish.

The main reason I picked this hotel is because other reviewers made good comments about the breakfast. Very important if you're going on island hopping. I also wanted to avoid food poisoning, which is apparently not uncommon in El Nido (I've had it in El Nido before and it's the worst thing). I'm happy to report that I didn't get food poisoning, but we were also extra careful. We only drank bottled water.

Anyway, the breakfast was better than any other breakfasts I had in other El Nido hotels. It's buffet style and although I found that the food choices weren't enough, I was able to stuff myself full for the island hopping.

The only problem I had was the non-existent wifi. It only works at Ipil lobby. I can also see how sound insulation may be a problem as the rooms are made of wood, not concrete. But it wasn't a problem for me as I was dead tired when I checked in. Also, other guests and staff didn't really make noises outside. If you think this may be a problem, I suggest booking with Ipil Suites instead of Tarao.

Don't believe the negative reviews. It is good enough for the price.

It's very noisy all night long, morning work at 6am, and it's right on the outside wall of my room, mosquitoes filling the room, it's impossible to sleep, and the rooms are very expensive, and I don 't recommend this facility at all.

It's horrible.

I spent 4 nights in this dump on Dec 27. Having never been to El Nido before, I booked this several months before arriving, after quite a lot of investigating places to stay in El Nido.
It is located on a small but busy little side street. In most places this would be great, but the walls of this place are made of nipa grass and have no noise blocking property at all. We could clearly hear other people staying there, talking and laughing in the small gathering area in the middle of this tiny property and motorbikes in the street. Could not get to sleep due to the noise.
Several BIG spiders were found in our 4 nights.
The beds and pillows were like sleeping on concrete.
The TV reception was incredibly poor and "snowy". The water pressure was very low, and I could pee harder. 
No Wi-Fi in the room.
The cost was extremely high for what was on offer even though it was the new year period. There are alot better and cheaper places to stay. 
Check other comments before booking there.

Total noisy, overpriced dump

Myself and my boyfriend booked through bookings.com to stay in taoro travel lodge for 4 nights. 
We arrived and firstly the reception area is filthy, with cardboard used as back walls. So many people in reception trying to check in and no order at all. We had to wait for ages in the also very unpleasant dining area. When we were finally brought to our room it was disgusting. A small “cottage like room” with a bed and no space to move about at all. It smelled horrible like damp and he room felt extremely damp with no circulating air. The floor was horrific,  looked like drops of paint or just the colour had worn away. The bathroom extremely old and unpleasant.  This room looked nothing like it had done online. 
It had said on our booking. “WiFi in all rooms and public areas”. When I asked for the WiFi code I was told they did not have WiFi even though it said it on all advertisements. The only place they had WiFi was across the road in reception and it never worked once. 

We left the room and went to complained to reception who told us to wait 30 minutes and they could change our room. After 30 minutes we were brought to another room which was definitely better than the first. Although there were so many mosquitoes around the room we decided to stay there as we had already paid through booking.com. 
When I went to take a shower we realized the shower was not working. There was absolutely no water pressure, only tiny drops of cold water despite it being the hot tap. Again we asked for this to be fixed, they came and ‘fixed it’ although we still had the exact same problem. 

We stayed in this room for 4 nights. Not once was our room cleaned, no clean towels, it was raining heavily so the floors were covered in mud and we asked for our room to be cleaned twice and we were told it would be and it never was. We had to go out and ask reception for toilet paper because they never replenished. 

At the breakfast buffet there were flies and ants all around the food. Staff were extremely unhelpful in all of this. 

I would never tell anyone to stay in this unhygienic excuse for a hotel. It ruined our time in El Nido I don’t know how this is allowed to still be open as it meets no standards. 


Dirty, stuffy, unhygienic 

3 of us booked a triple sharing room here and we would not recommend it to anyone...

The room was very stuffy and did not have proper air circulation and ventilation... When you wake up in the morning g you wake up with bad phlegm due to the same air being circulated by the AC... The room we got was made of bamboo...

The toilet was so tiny that when you sit your knees hit the wall.. two people cant even cross each other... 

If you go to breakfast after 8.45 all your left with is bread and eggs...

And the WiFi even though it connects to the phone only works if you wake up at around 1am to use it... I am guessing this is by too many people logging on to the network...

The room was right at the main road so be ready to be woken up by vehicles passing by...

On the positive the staff were kind and the tours they organised were good..

Would not recommend

El Nido was very crowded during our stay, so we chose the Travelodge. It belongs to the Ipil Hotel, which is right across the street. The room was relatively large but very sparsely furnished. A double bed, a single bed and a nightstand. TV and climate also had the room. There was no closet to clean up his things, so we had to live out of the suitcase. Wifi only worked very badly, but it's free. This is already very familiar. When water came out of the shower, it's very cold.

Okay, with cuts.

This hotel was basic. No furniture in room. Air con and hot water but nothing else. No tooth mugs, no toiletries, but they did provide small bottles of water. Breakfast could be obtained across the road at Ipil suites for pesos 150 per person.

I'll start with the downside: the receptionist at first couldn't find our reservation, then she called the price too high, unlike the one we booked at the booking. If we didn't have an app on the phone where the data is listed, we wouldn't be able to prove anything. Barishna smiles and persists pretends not to understand anything. The breakfasts we paid for are very mediocre. I'm not one of the prickly ones, but the choice is very slim. We were in a spa with my husband, so having a snack in the city is quite real, but here with the kids, I just can't imagine.
