Please avoid this place. There are nicer, safer and cleaner options in El Nido. 

Long story short, when we arrived our doorknob was broken and this is how we realized that strangers could easily enter the room as the balcony connects to several other rooms. We simply wouldn’t be able to sleep knowing that the strangers we saw in the hallway could easily access our room. As much as we tried to stay polite, the owner refused to listen to our concerns and we had to insist for them to immediately change the doorknob (she also added that we will have to pay for any other additional lock). Needless to say we left the place, lost all our money as she refused to find any kind of compromise and we found a safer room.

For $63 a night, the place was not livable, even for one night. For one thing, the room was so much smaller than the room in the photo, and the amenities were extremely lacking for that price. 

Run away

The way to the hotel is something that will announce a great stay at El GORDO! It's a path that you have to walk through a little comunnity just along the shore! It will give you a little idea how is daily life over there, with so many children coming to you to say hello with curiosity! The owner, Mr Gordon, or better known as Gordo, and his lovely wife will make you feel at home! They will help you with any question, arrange boat trips, bus tickets, trycicles! We were given a very big room with a balcony on the top floor, it has a fan and aircon! Room was clean and comfortable! Breakfast was very tasty and always served on time that we requested on the previous day! Overall it was a great experience and I would return for sure! Thank you for the Hospitality! Fantastic place

We stayed at El Gordo’s for 4 nights. When we arrived in El Nido we immediately found it quite busy and loud. Luckily El Gordo’s is slightly out of the centre away from yeh rest of the tourist bars and accommodation. 

It is a very relaxing place with great views over the bay. Gordon was very helpful and we rented his kayaks for one day. We would definitely recommend for somewhere to stay in El Nido.

Stay in El Nido

Me and my friend rented a kayak - not from El Gordo’s, but from our own guest house. 

Our kayak was split and started to fill with water whilst out at sea. Gordon, luckily for us passed us on his paddle board and asked if we were ok... he took our broken kayak and with great difficulty paddled it back to shore and gave us his paddle board to get back, which took around 2 hours time out of his day.

If this is the kind of hospitality he shows to complete strangers in need of help I can only imagine his tours/accommodation are to match.. Thank you so much for your help.

Kayak

My plan was to stay 2 nights, I stayed for 6 nights instead! Two nights in a room with 2 beds then it was fullybooked, Gordo and Christina maked a room for me in the massageroom. SO Nice, no Windows in that room so could hear the waves! :) I liked that the guesthouse not was in the middle of town, liked the calm area. Coming back next time in the Philippines! Super helpful and friendly owners!

Super Nice and Calm

I joined El Gordo’s 3 day kayak camping trip and then stayed in the guesthouse dorm for 2 additional nights. Gordon and Christina run a unique and very local business in a special location. Gordon went beyond expectations to manage logistics and was very generous with gear and support to make it possible for me to join the trip-even when my flight was delayed. The kayak trip was an incredible way to see islands and get away from the more crowded tour boat routes. Aaron, Reggie and Rollie (Guide, Boat Men) are amazing at their work and fun to spend time with.  Best lunch on a Bangka ever!  Aaron got me out on a remote sandy basketball court for about the first time in 20 years.  The guesthouse covers all the needs for a little more adventurous traveler, excellent food, safe and secure, useful Wi-Fi, beautiful balcony overlooking gorgeous scenery, helpful and friendly hosts. The 4 person dorm room was clean and equipped as a simple hostel type space-comfortable mattress and pillows, with overhead fan and ground fan, each bunk with bug net. Bath room is Filipino style and covers all the basic needs. Sure, things aren’t fancy and new, but the charming and welcoming hosts and house fits the character of a local place and is a nice change of pace from busy El Nido town (just a short 5-10 minute) walk away. The walk itself provides a real view of everyday life of the community. Go there for a great life experience!
