Short distance from Olsztyn Zachodni station, the old town and restaurants etc. The hotel is old wooden decor inside and impressive entrance area and stairs. Very friendly receptionist. Had a takeaway breakfast bag as left very early. Good value for the price paid.

Room was generally OK. Bottled water, TV, plenty of storage space. Bathroom was OK.

Bed was a little uncomfortable. WiFi wasn't very good. 

Good Value Hotel Near Old Town 

+Free parking (if you get a place) is on premises. Location is more or less central

-  Breakfast was just passable. The room had few problems. There is no air-conditioner in all but one suit under the roof and it is a small movable unit. But this suit is huge, for 4 or more people and I doubt that in hot weather it will help. Besides, you have to climb steep steps which was out of question for one of us. So we took one in first (not ground) floor. It was very hot and if you open the window, all street noise come in.  At 4 am they start cleaning streets.  And the paper blinds let in all the light.  The shower doors were broken, so the cleaners did not bother to clean the shower. And  all equipment is "tired" to say the least

Good maybe for short stay in colder darker time of the year

As a solo traveller I was doubting if I should book a hotel or a hostel. When I saw Hotel Pod Zamkiem, I knew I should give this hotel a try! And I'm happy I choose for this hotel because my stay was excellent! It all starts with writing an email about the directions from the main train station. Very helpful and polite to give advise about the buses. The hotel itself is located in a very old building and the whole building has this 'old' style. It's adorable. Of course, it looks a little bit out-dated but that's the style of this hotel. I booked a room for 1 person and was happy when I found out that it was actually a 2 personsroom with 2 beds, a small desk and 2 chairs. Keep in mind that the front of the hotel is near a busy road so ask for a room on the back or take earplugs with you, just in case. It is an old building ;) I have stayed here 2 nights and although there was a concert at the castle, I sleep very well. The shower looks renovated and is clean (although the shower is not that strong but hey, you have at least a warm shower). There is also a place where you can sit and relax on the first floor. There is a computer for internet but the WiFi works well. The breakfast is served every morning from 7:00 till 10:30. They will ask is you want scrambled eggs. It's delicious! You have to leave the key at the reception every time when you leave but there is 24-hours reception. And they know who you are, I didn't need to ask for my room number. Last but not least: The location is excellent. The castle is around the corner, you can walk along the Lysna river. You can even walk to the big lake of Olsztyn. If you come by train, consider to leave at Olsztyn Zachodi. It's 10 minutes walk only. The hotel has a parking place.

Lovely cosy place right behind the castle

This hotel looks pretty impressive  on the web however.. It has an odor of an old cheap motel.. The smell of mildew and old linens makes it impossible to have a good night's sleep. Wifi barely works. Rooms are tiny and very uncomfortable to move around.. Do not recommend. 

Price doesnt meet quality

We got the night in the apartment as a gift from our friends to escape from everybody around us, on the night before our wedding - to relax and rest from all wedding related hassle. Place smells of really old carpets, rooms are rather small and everything seems cheap made. I plugged in my laptop to use some internet and I needed to charge my phone, but I couldn't find second wall socket! I thought that there had to be another socket somewhere, so I moved a bed a little bit. Behind it there was a hole (!) in the wall, where socket USED to be, with wires sticking out of it! Okay, it was supposed to be just one night, so I carried on with the charade. Decided, that I need my phone more than my laptop, so I should concentrate on charging it, and that's why I tried to unplug the laptop. Socket just stayed in my hand! With the plug! Just came off the wall... what a great quality!

Another thing was toilet in the bathroom. You can actually see it on photos available on hotelguidecom - I'm describing bathroom with blue-yellow tiles. It has angled ceiling and the problem is, that they have put toilet bowl right at the lowest point! If you are a man, over 2.5ft tall, you won't be able to use it while standing up - you can actually see that in these photos. Take a look at photo no 9: on right hand side you can see "kitchen", and on the left is the bathroom itself. You can actually see, that the angled ceiling goes BELOW level of cupboards in the kitchen - it really goes that close to the floor, so you can imagine how awkward is using this toilet. 

Area is very beautiful and obviously convenient, because it's really city centre, but hotel itself is not good at all. We got out of there within hours after checking in. It may look nice on pictures, but for that all you have to do is to take photos from right angles. 

My advice? Avoid.

This is a gorgeous little historic hotel/B&B in a wonderful location – across from one park, surrounded by another, and beneath ('pod') a castle ('zamkiem').
The smallness of my (single+ensuite) room was offset by the very large windows that overlooked the beautiful park.

Everything was in walking distance. 
Staff were lovely and helpful.
Breakfast was plentiful and delicious.

Highly recommend. Great value, clean, comfortable and lovely.
