The place is just gorgeous, lost in the back countryside of Sao Martinho, quietly the houses each of a specific color, ours was yellow, are very beautiful, with an old charm, private terrace and beautiful common pool (a little cool for me! 23°) Bernardo is really very attentive, of good advice and very available.He knows the area very well Located to make lots of different visits: Nazaré, Alcobaça, Bathala, Obidos, garden of Eden see even Sintra: still further away and too touristy for us

What a wonderful discovery

Bernardo and Sadia greet us with the greatest sympathy and relaxation. They quickly make us feel comfortable and explain the operation of the house and common spaces. The houses correspond to what one can expect from a lodging in the countryside, rustic and with a coherent and unpretentious decoration. Nevertheless, they offer a few mimics. The highlight: espresso coffee machine and coffee packaging; fireplace equipped and filled with wood and candles; grill equally ready to bake a small fish that can be purchased fresh at the market of San Martinho; the best facial towels and bath towels, equipped with the best hotel sound! The palette corresponds to the surrounding and almost exclusively complete by nature and sounds. The peace of our hosts! It was an absolute must never be forgotten experience that we are present in the countryside, but it was a memorable experience that we must never repeat!

Paradise in the West

Ideal for those who want to get away from the city but still close enough to enjoy the beach. Very peaceful, lovely scenery, great swimming pool and garden. Felt very welcomed. It’s down to earth and you are made to feel at home. Each house has its own kitchen and if you want to be left alone no one will bother you.

Absolute peace

If you are looking for peace and quiet surrounded by nature, then this is the place for you. 

You can choose between 2 one-bed or 1 two-bed appartments with a traditional cosy feel, with your own bathroom and kitchen. You can make use of the outdoors swimming pool for a quick splash, the hammock with a fab view over the valley to enjoy a holiday read (if you don't fall asleep to the gentle breeze and birds song!). Each apartment has a BBQ and table and chairs outside. You get a really good night's sleep as there is absolutely no noise at night and no light pollution. 

Casa dos Mangues is located just over an hour's drive from Lisbon and is easily accessed by motorway. You will need a car to get to the place. 

The owners are very welcoming, helpful and knowledgeable about the area. 

There are a few good beaches nearby to choose from: in the bay of Sao Martinho, Foz do Arelha, Lagoa de Obidos, or for a super long stretch of quiet sand head to Praia do Salgado (5mn drive away). Bear in mind that this is the Atlantic and so if you are into surfing, you'll love it. For swimming it's more unpredictable. 

If you need a quick bit of food shopping a supermarket is just 10 minutes drive away in Sao Martinho. Make sure to stop at the covered market for fresh fruit & veg and fish. But if you feel too lazy to cook then head to Tasca de Janeca (5mn away) where you'll get a super tasty Bacalhau a Casa. 

All in all we really enjoyed our stay as a family and would wholeheartedly recommend this place.

A fab little place to get away from it all

This lovely accommodation is located in quite a rural location you would need a car. However you can walk to a local cafe and restaurant. Both do good food in clean but basic surroundings and the value for money is exceptional. The beach is also within walking distance but not for small children. The beach itself is long, beautiful and the sand golden. At night it is very peaceful and dark! 
We stayed in the 2 bed casa which is rustic but has everything you need and is lovely and clean. The pool is just right but the water temperature in September was invigorating! The owner Bernardo and his wife Sadia are so helpful and can't do enough to make your stay the best. Bernardo has so much knowledge about the local area he can advise about anything from taxis to monasteries. 
If you want a restful break this is the place to go, but if you want opulent luxury try a hotel but if simple is your thing you won't go wrong.

Lovely restful location

If you are looking for a quiet home in a wonderful countryside, and also for a very friendly host, you will find the best place to stay here!The beaches of the Atlantic are not far away, some of which are also suitable for children. To get to know the historic countryside, the rental car is also essential.The holiday homes are practically furnished, the terraces offer a stunning view.There are good and affordable restaurants nearby, as well as a daily market and a large supermarket.We have been here four times and will return next year.

A vacation in a wonderful landscape, in an absolutely peaceful location

Good rooms with a very nice family.
The whole stay was in perfect harmony with myself and nature.
The pool is perfectly located and my friends and children felt at home.
I took long walks and it was possible to run during the morning. The night is very quiet and listen to the crickets on the porch
I hope to return this summer, review these friends who have become family.

Here, you can rest!

For more than 5 years now our family makes it to this beautiful place once a year. Outside big cities, with pure nature and rich landscape, right next to the beach (and not far away from many others), we found this the most advisable place to recharge in Portugal. Besides, it's always great to be warmly welcomed by the house owner's whole family. In short: you love Portugal, non-overcrowded and beautiful beaches, nature and contact to locals - this might be your best shot!

Escaping big city life in favor of a heartwearming family

One week in one of the three charming little houses on a hillside in the middle of a flowery garden. The house was impeccably clean, with a terrace offering a superb view of the valley, beautifully decorated with ancient Chinese objects in the area (in comparison we were terribly disappointed by the pousada or we stayed thereafter). The owners are not only charming but a wealth of information about the good addresses of the area, possible excursions and Portuguese culture.

Just perfect!

Casa dos Mangues is located away from major tourist attractions near São Martinho do Porto. The houses are cozyly decorated, from the terraces you have a wonderful wide view over the hilly plain. The complex is very green - in the middle of nature - quiet and thus the ideal place to relax. A wild beach for walking is within walking distance, the area also offers opportunities for climbing or hiking. Sadia and Bernado welcomed us very warmly, everything they did to make guests feel comfortable and recommend excursions and restaurants.
