We were so lucky to have found this Quinta, after having been let down by another place . We were warmly met by Tony and Catherine and immediately felt at home . They have a heavenly property .... Fruit trees , gardens, swimming pool to relax and admire the view . The peace , beauty and birdsong were reviving , after a stressful day . Our room was great with views and the breakfast was terrific .... All jams made by Catherine from their own fruit trees. We had two evening meals , with other guests and it was a fun experience ... We even sang songs .
I was sad to leave and feel we have found two new good friends. 

Wonderful happy place

It started our horribly.  Our GPS died and the written directions to the B&B were in French.  I called for help and Catherine told me that she couldn't help because her English wasn't up to the task.  We finally made it with the help of a filling station worker down in Amarante.  

And that is when things got much better fast.  We asked about a restaurant and Catherine asked if we would like to go with her, Tony, and some other guests to a restaurant of their choosing.  We accepted and had a marvelous (and good value) meal.  

Next day I used my phone app to ask Catherine where I could buy a charger for my GPS.  No problem:  She would buy one for me on her shopping trip.  

On the second night Catherine and Tony did a bar-b-cue for all the guests -- 14 of us.  All but we were French but there were a few English speakers in the group and we were included.  GREAT food and wine.

Breakfast was average but the place -- absolute Garden of Eden -- and the helpfulness of both Catherine and Tony make this a must if you are staying in the Amarante area.

Hosts help in unexpected ways...

The charm of this B&B is mainly it's heavenly garden, full all kinds of fruit, it's chapel, fine pool, and the rural setting.
Just an easily 15 min. from the center of Amarante, a nice town, very well centered to visit the neighbourhood.
We had the separate house, with very nice sleepingroom and bathroom, and optional the kitchen with somewhat rural livingroom, but not bad, we loved it.
The breakfast was the best we had in Portugal, with nice homemade jams and cereals, pastry, etc.
The french/portugese couple wo runs this paradise very good, are really friendly. We are not sure if they speak well english, as we conversated in french with them.
Although the weather was bad, we had a great time here, and would go back if we would visit the area again! Surprise yourself with a great dinner in the town of Amarante; the "relais and chateau" restaurant there is as heavenly as the quinta de ribas!

Garden of Eden

Once you enter the gate of the quinta, you are absorbed by the marvelous domain. Lush vegetation everywhere.
Animals, a pool that's not to deep and numerous hiding places make this an excellent place to spent vacation with children.
Apart from Amarante, several interesting places within an hour's driving distance: douro valley, Guimaraes, Porto,..
Breakfast with an large choice of selfmade marmelades.
Nearly every evening possibility of participating in a nice meal with the other guests, either in a local restaurant or on the domein.
Tony and Cathérine will make sure that you'll regret having to leave at the end of your stay.

Paradise

This was a great place to stay. Tony and Catherine made us feel at home immediately. We had a room in the main building that was absolutely clean with a great view of the valley and the mountains in the distance. We asked about nearby restaurants and they invited us to go out with them to a nearby place where they introduced us to the local food and the "vinho verde". The prices were modest, the food was good, the wine was better, and the companionship was special. You could hike, bike,swim, or play tennis- it was all there! A great place for couples or a family.
