Marilia, the owner was beyond kind. Before arriving she told me she would accommodate me as I am a little claustrophobic and had booked the small room. Room was fine - no problem. Clean throughout. Marilia comes every day - making the beds, changing the towels, dispensing information - being helpful.
Compact kitchen, dining room, living room with all the amenities you would need. TV, Computer, brochures all available for use.
Slipped on the kitchen mat, broke a cup and offered to pay. Marilia refused, saying "she has plenty of cups". Marilia even washed a pan of mine I had soaking...! Wow what service!
Please note that despite the pictures, the place is different now, possibly smaller but it does not take away from the cozy, comfortable place it is... Just a wonderful place..
I am staying here 5 days and will enjoy every minute of it. Thank you Marilia for making my stay so enjoyable. Obrigada!

Beyond Kindness

At the top of the main avenue it is well located in relation to the city centre and the points of interest. Very discreet entrance, the facade has three identical doors, and on one of them a small wooden plate in the shape of the island with the name engraved. Contact the host who will give you SMS instructions to find the key, it is cunning. On the first floor, reception desk, the hall equipped with a small furniture with a free-access computer, a living room, and two large bedrooms. On the second floor two bedrooms and a home with a very warm bed.

A Little Happiness

The hostel is nice, cland and good breakfast but the best is the staff in special Karina.
She was very helpful, explained the best restaurants to go around the island and she was very very kind :)

Although not as central as Globo Hostel, Purple island hostel is still very near all the attractions plus it also have some quiet rooms (the one with a "seaview"), where you don't hear cars all night long :) The staff is very friendly, there is a computer, TV, kitchen... It is not as luxurious as Globo but still it's nice and clean and offers laundry service. 
Stayed here for a few nights and was totally satisfied.

Nice friendly hostel close to center

The place is nice, clean ... But I want to talk here about great staff. When already at Lisbon airport, the original accommodation I have booked was cancelled. Coming during Sanjoaninas festival, most affordable places were booked. These guys gave me accommodation for two nights and went way out-of-their way to find me an affordable place to stay till the end of my vacation. Many times, it is not about a place where you stay. It is about people... Here, you get the package. Strongly recommended, I wish I could stay here for the rest of my stay. I would like to use this occasion to thank the staff for unselfish help they offered me. Jost

Great place, great people

It is amazing hostel. Very clean and breakfast is amazing. The location is the best and staff is so kind. They really want to be field good. I would definitely recommend it to you. For this money is more than worth it. 

Amazing hostel

Good located place close to the center; clean rooms and bathrooms; very nice, friendly and helpful hosts. The bed was just awesome comfortable after spending two weeks in a tent :) The kitchen is well equipped and you can have a fairly good breakfast too and if you need, laundry service as well.

Very nice place & staff

Purple Island has all the amenities you'd expect from a youth hostel: low prices, breakfast included, wifi, library, good location, human size... but most of all, a very helpful, available and friendly manager: Purple Island is not just a youth hostel, it's the sympathy of the Azores themselves!

Turn it on!

We arrived in Angra without planning anything, without booking and we were exceptionally well received at the Purple Iceland Hostel. 1. Firstly, we paid less than what the search engines had announced. 2. Our hote was exceptionally kind and took the time to tell us about the city and the interesting things we could do, the kind of attention that makes you sad to leave. 3. The places were impeccably clean and the decoration very warm. 4. The hostel is located in the historical (magnificent) heart of Angra do Heroismo.

A heartbeat.

Essential but functional and clean accommodation. Strategic for itinerant trips to the archipelago. Good breakfast. Management is welcoming, punctual, present and extremely courteous and available.
