What an amazing place to stay! In the morning you wake up with the sound of happy birds, once you open the window you enjoy the beautiful views..
Situated in a very quiet environment, with easy access to some levada’s and all other interesting places on the island.  At 5 minutes walking distance from the best  ‘sunshine’ restaurant on the island. 

So beautiful! 

Beautiful guesthouse on quiet and very green location. Great breakfast and very friendly staff in a relaxed atmosphere. We very much enjoyed staying here, the location is excellent for exploring the entire island.

We had a fabulous time here!! We arrived quite late and all the restaurant s were closing (they don't have a restaurant on site, just a kitchen where they make breakfast in the morning.) However, they told us to just take what we wanted from the fridge and made sure we had something to eat. The breakfast in the morning was great - fresh bread, fruit and cheese and ham. There was always enough to fill everyone up.
The place itself is in the middle of nowhere but it's so calm and beautiful!

There is good WiFi by the pool and in all the common areas so we didn't find that a problem at all! 

(Do be aware that the road to the hotel is really very steep! Make sure your air con is off and you give full gas 😊)

Attentive to detail and they really do go above and beyond for your comfort!

We booked Colina da Faja almost on a whim – sitting on the sofa just days before leaving. And we are glad we did. 

Our first tip – ensure that you are VERY much at ease with your rental car before attempting to travel to Colina da Faja. Located very literally on a step hillside (Colina), access to the hotel is down a very narrow, and very steep street. One slip of the clutch, and “bye bye…”. 

If you do survive the descent, brakes fading and clutch smoking, you’ll find an absolutely stunning, large villa, wit an un-interrupted panorama of the Atlantic Ocean. The property simply oozes charm and beauty, one of those places when upon arriving, your first thought is “God – I would love to own this place”. We felt immediately relaxed in our new surroundings, taking in the sunset views from the terrace, in the shade of a twisted olive tree. Peace and Serenity. 

The rooms are simple and feel almost like staying with friends or family. Charming old furniture, and modest appointments. The beds however are a bit short (I’m 1.90m or 6’2”) so for taller travellers, this may not be ideal. 

Our greatest annoyance here was the lack of any type of soap dish in the shower. The basins are flat, with no edges, and hence it is impossible to put any shampoo or soap down without it immediately slipping under your feet and causing you to dance around awkwardly in an attempt not to fall through the glass shower door…not very smart! 

Our greatest laugh: the TV. Imagine an iPad sized screen. Then imagine placing said screen about 10 meters from your bed. Enjoy the movie! But, with the ocean views through the large balcony in our room, we never touched the micro-TV. No need. 

The hotel provides plenty of little nooks and crannies to check emails (no WIFI in the rooms!) or just to relax. With a lounge, pool-table room, kitchen, pool, and two terraces, you can easily find a spot of isolation in this small property. 

Breakfast was limited, as this is a small property with only a few rooms. But that’s fine – we would have felt horrible to have giant buffet that would have inevitably gone to waste with only 3 couples staying at the property during our time there. 

If you’re looking for nightlife, excitement, and lots of online amusements, go somewhere else. For peace, solitude, beauty and simplicity, you’ve found the right place.

A Hillside Gem!

The location itself is good if you want to explore the west of Portugal. Not far from one of the best Levada walks in Rabacal. 15 mins drive to Calheta beach, 40 mins to Porto Moniz. The staff are extremely polite and go the extra mile. The facilities flatter to deceive in my opinion, because everything looks spot on however the bed was very squeaky and I awoke every time my husband budged, the sound from the communal areas noises amplified up the corridor stairs to our rooms. I also felt as if my room was damp, and I think this was because the double doors to the balcony were letting the moisture in.  I really struggled to get a good night's sleep in. 
To take it to the up a level replace the old beds, replace the balcony doors to double glazed, compartmintize the the stairway to the room to keep the noise out. Do that and I'll be back again. 
Top tip: when parking your car, set yourself up for an easy exit buy reverse parking into your bay. It is a nightmare getting your car out other wise.

Not the best sleep :(

We made reservation over booking.com. when we came to the property we received call from booking.com that hotel is not able to accomodate us. Apperantly due the technical reason. It was quite bad situation. Road to the hotel is very steep. Owner was not very helpful to solve the situation. We had to solve it by our own.
