Loved staying here. Friendly and helpful staff. Great breakfast. Lovely rooms and would definitely stay again. Only reason I didn't give it the excellent review is because it needs somewhere to sit outside and there is no tea/coffee making in your rooms

Very nice

Nice independent houses with a lovely view. It could be a great place but: 
- It has the rudest, dirtiest and most aggressive staff I've ever suffered 
- Rooms are dirty (insects are welcome) and the kitchen is simply disgusting
- Kitsch cheap deco everywhere 


It could be a great place

The one thing I didn't like about this accommodation was that the owner does not live on site.   She obviously only turns up at certain times, especially as we were the only ones booked in for that night.
There are 3 new buildings for accommodation and one where breakfast is served.  Therefore the rooms were very clean and the bathroom fittings modern.   
The bedroom was an adequate size but a small chair would have been nice (I noticed one in the room next door) and also there were no hooks on the walls or doors, so it was not possible to hang any clothes/coats up off the floor.   There was a big chest of drawers though and 2 bedside cabinets.   There was also a tv/dvd player and a fan (which we needed).

Breakfast was fine - scrambled eggs and bacon, rolls, ham, cheese, etc.  The owner didn't speak English (we spoke in Portuguese), but she did say she could understand some English.

There was a large parking area between the houses, so no problem with parking.   I would recommend this place for a one night stay as, if you booked a place in Monsanto itself, parking looked difficult or impossible near the rooms and you'd have to park in the small car park outside the village.   We found one night was sufficient to visit Monsanto and drive around the area as there wasn't much else to see.
The wi-fi signal was not sufficient in our room, but as the lady hadn't left the code we couldn't use it, even outside.  Not a problem for one night though.

Ideal for visiting historic Monsanto and good price at 40 euros for 2 people

We arrived rather late, but the staff was nice enough to wait for us. Breakfast was very nice, including interesting stuff like tomatoes jam. We were there in August, so the rooms were very hot. As the buildings were made of stone, they kind of introduced us to the beautiful world of Monsanto.

Perfect location to introduce you to Monsanto's athmosphere

A work in progress: Other places in Monsanto were full-up, and this location appeared -- on the way up to the main town, but actually with easy parking and quite a nice location. We were across the pavement in the west annex, which was so recently finished that various items such as the wiring and wifi access were not completed (you had to walk out into the parking lot to get a wifi signal from the main building). This is an evolving spot: new buildings coming up, construction debris tossed downhill, landscaping being installed still (but tastefully done!). The room was comfortable, although without any apparent source of heating, and it was chilly. We walked over to Reception and it turned out they had a vast collection of ceramic heaters, so one went into our room and everything was fine thereafter. The location is splendid, among holm and cork oaks, with ponds down below and 10,000 frogs and perhaps as many birds making their presence felt. The access to Monsanto is good, and the beds comfortable enough. This place really is coming together; it's just not quite "there" yet. 

Oh, and the breakfast spread was in dramatic contrast to that in Spain: scrambled eggs with lovely mushrooms, fine quality cheese and ham and chorizo, coffee from "pods" and good orange juice and milk. 

If you aren't feeling brave about going into the heart of Monsanto with a car (and that would be wise), this is a fine alternative. You can come here, unload and relax, and then drive up to the town and enjoy one of the most magnificent sites in Portugal, maybe in Europe!
