Accommodation tried to rip me off. First, I booked the accommodation via booking.com with the option to cancel for free and was informed about a price spike during the dates I booked and for which I already received a booking confirmation. Nonetheless, I agreed to pay the 40%(!) higher rate for the dates I wanted. A down payment of 210€ was required as a direct transfer to the accommodation. When I cancelled the accommodation within the free cancellation period, Estela (host of Casa de David) had the audacity to simply ignore my messages and not even inform me about the fact that she thought there is no free cancellation. Hence, I engaged the booking.com support who seemed to struggle to manage to resolve this with the accommodation themselves. After long back and forth, I was offered a voucher for future use at Casa de David. Obviously, I would never ever stay at a place with such management in the future and threatened legal actions against booking.com after which I was credited the missing amount from booking.com. The tale has it that the poor customer support agent who needed to work on this is still trying to make Estela pay back the stolen money. I have stayed in many many hotels and this tops the worst of the worst in terms of shittyness. I highly recommend you to look for an alternative accommodation or simply camp outside the village before you resort to this place.

Management stole my money

The funny photo of the house is what captivates to choose this place to stay overnight.... what a huge disappointment.... when we checked in, we reported that a person did not have a vaccine, the person made himself very nice/victim and indicates that the rules are very hard in Monsanto because of Covid/trone war movies, and says that if he knew he hadn't accepted the reservation, the person said that no problem in doing the test in front of him, as we knew it was possible anywhere, the person said he couldn't accept because the rules were very specific and could be passed on... the person has to have the certificate and the point... Or else he asked us to cancel the reservation in the Booking... If we were talking in cash yet.... And we asked an old person if he would have better misunderstood the words of my friends and that there was no one else in the room....

Location not to be chosen

The village of Monsanto itself was called the most Portugal of all the villages in Portugal.  It is charming and this lovely B&B makes it proud.  Estella, the owner, was a wonderful host bringing us plates, glasses, and everything we needed for our meal late at night when we arrived.  The style of the furnishing was great!  The room was very clean and had a huge stone wall which added to its charm.
Estella asked us what time we wanted to have our breakfast and it was prepared just in time with freshly baked bread and scrambled eggs.  
A huge fig tree just in front of our door which we picked some fruit off was a very nice addition to our stay.

Charming hotel in a charming village

The hostess is a charlatan and a liar (she asks to cancel on Booking.com, she only accepts payment in kind and then she doesn't pass the bill). The rooms are dark, cold and small. The decor is made with horrible paintings and old, heavy and cakey furniture. She says there's breakfast but it's another lie from the hostess. I don't recommend it to my worst enemy.

The hostess is a charlatan.

Monsanto is losing its grace, not because of its local residents, but because of a number of new opportunistic residents from big cities who use more aggressive tourism to maximize their investments. This establishment didn't lag behind... The lady even seemed nice, but she didn't have to use covid as an excuse for some things. Although we booked a room with supposedly 15 square meters, we actually ended up in a room that had to have 5 square meters with a bathroom of 1 square meters. In the room, the bed was leaning against the wall to fit in.

Cat for hare

When calling to check in, the hostess indicates that it is easier to check in directly, asks for all the data for the purpose, but still today I wait for the receipt. However, during the whole trip, she was always calling to check in and remark a new convenient check-in time for the maid!?! No! forgetting that we were the traveling guests... we had to re-do plans to reconcile check-in according to the lady's convenience. Then she kept calling to make the transfer, when I explained that I would make it as soon as she got to the room with wi-fi. But this worked in that lodging! We made the mobile data transfer, and continued to send messages to the maid that she did not receive No. Then again because it is not the home address, where we had left the check-in address, but we had to buy the door in the room.

Fraudulent experience

It may not be right to write a review about a B&B without stopping there, but I'll still draw a few lines. We were in Monsanto and we were just about to go for a walk, when the friendly owner of the place noticed us and invited us to at least a glass. It was impossible to refuse him and we had a few beers and had a very emotional chat with him and his family.

We're only here for a minute.

Stopped and had a lovely late lunch at Casa de David. Asked for Coffee and a sandwich, not knowing what the sandwich was going to be and both were excellent. Sandwich was made from all local produce. Host very friendly and helpful. Made our trip to Monsanto very special.

The room would have been much more pleasant if it hadn't felt the humidity and if the windows had been opened before we arrived.

Disappointing

It's a small hotel with a very original and very personal décor, with a harmonious blend of an infinite variety of objects, illuminated by a wide list of multi-form lamps.The furniture, carpets and the like are mostly antique (in perfect use) and some of them are real jewels.Many of the rooms have independent entrances and are integrated into the hotel's overall design and into the very pencil that makes it.All this generates a very suitable atmosphere for a romantic getaway.Monsanto, the town, accompanied. located in the old Monsanto town next to the Matriz Church.Although in Monsanto there is little place to park, in the vicinity of the hotel there is no problem.The breakfast is excellent and dining on the terraced terraces is a privilege.
