Accommodation tried to rip me off. First, I booked the accommodation via booking.com with the option to cancel for free and was informed about a price spike during the dates I booked and for which I already received a booking confirmation. Nonetheless, I agreed to pay the 40%(!) higher rate for the dates I wanted. A down payment of 210€ was required as a direct transfer to the accommodation. When I cancelled the accommodation within the free cancellation period, Estela (host of Casa de David) had the audacity to simply ignore my messages and not even inform me about the fact that she thought there is no free cancellation. Hence, I engaged the booking.com support who seemed to struggle to manage to resolve this with the accommodation themselves. After long back and forth, I was offered a voucher for future use at Casa de David. Obviously, I would never ever stay at a place with such management in the future and threatened legal actions against booking.com after which I was credited the missing amount from booking.com. The tale has it that the poor customer support agent who needed to work on this is still trying to make Estela pay back the stolen money. I have stayed in many many hotels and this tops the worst of the worst in terms of shittyness. I highly recommend you to look for an alternative accommodation or simply camp outside the village before you resort to this place.

Management stole my money

The village of Monsanto itself was called the most Portugal of all the villages in Portugal.  It is charming and this lovely B&B makes it proud.  Estella, the owner, was a wonderful host bringing us plates, glasses, and everything we needed for our meal late at night when we arrived.  The style of the furnishing was great!  The room was very clean and had a huge stone wall which added to its charm.
Estella asked us what time we wanted to have our breakfast and it was prepared just in time with freshly baked bread and scrambled eggs.  
A huge fig tree just in front of our door which we picked some fruit off was a very nice addition to our stay.

Charming hotel in a charming village

Stopped and had a lovely late lunch at Casa de David. Asked for Coffee and a sandwich, not knowing what the sandwich was going to be and both were excellent. Sandwich was made from all local produce. Host very friendly and helpful. Made our trip to Monsanto very special.

Great Cafe

Casa de David was a magical place to stay right in the old city. Estella was an amazing host and made us feel right at home. We loved her and her lovely old welcoming home! She has a nice little patio for breakfast where we happily dined and enjoyed the old village.

Lovely Spot with Great Vibes

Charming little place run by a very friendly and helpful host. We stayed in the double room at the side of the main guest room. It was nicely furnished, clean, had self catering facilities (although no fridge), lovely hot shower, and was very quiet. Only downside is the bed is a double (not queen if that’s what you’ve come to expect in Portugal) and the mattress is very, very firm (again this is what we’ve come to expect in Portugal). 

Breakfast was perfect for us with warm bread and freshly made scrambled eggs. Simple but really delicious. 

Our host Estela was very welcoming and accommodating. She had a little shop with lots of interesting pieces. 

Highly recommend staying here

Magical !

My boyfriend and I were fortunate to stay in this wonderful cottage. Monsanto itself is like a dream, one of the highlights of our Europe trip. The manager, Estrella is very helpful and welcoming. The cottage was perfect and catered for all our needs, and we throughly enjoyed every moment. Thank you. 

Best accommodation in town

We booked for two nights. Our room on the ground floor was a funny little place with a very peculiar bathroom arrangement, you have to see it...!!! We were very warmly welcomed by Estella, the extremely kind owner and the friendly, for ever smiling Antonio José .We felt at home immediately. Excellent breakfast is in he little shop. Parking can be a problem in Monsanto but Estalla worked her "magic" twice and found us both times a parking place next doors. 
It was such a different experience from the usually bland hotels .It's a place and people you shall always remember.
