Beautiful guesthouse set in its own extensive gardens.We stayed in a separate bungalow in the grounds.Plenty of space and well equipped.A good shady verandah - an ideal place for a sundowner.The staff are enthusiastic, great fun. and good at organising restaurant reservations or winery visits.

good base for wine and food research

My wife and I stayed here in early October 2022 as a base for our tour the Douro Valley.  It is a little off the beaten path, as far as the town and rail station, but not so far that it is difficult to get to.  It’s a short and cheap uber ride away, but well worth the experience.  First and foremost, the place is beautiful.  They offer breakfast in the morning, and you can wander the gardens at your leisure -sampling fruits as you walk.  I almost wish we had scheduled in a couple more hours to appreciate this place a little more.  The staff speak English, there is a pool, and the place is secure and safe -gated.  Quinta da Pacheca is less than a mile away -walking distance – they offer a good wine tour.  If you want something different, unique, and more memorable than a hotel this place is highly recommended. Book in advance -they are popular.

Beautiful 

If you are looking for modernity, buzz and nightlife, then Casa da Azenha is not for you. If, however, you want a retreat where you can physically feel your shoulders dropping, it’s perfect! Firstly, it’s beautiful: the old house, the lush gardens and vines, and the views of the valley. Secondly, it is so peaceful: just the sound of the occasional cockerel and the low chatter of guests. 

There aren’t really any restaurants in walking distance (apart from Quinta Parecha, but you must book). However, we took to eating out at lunchtime, and then spending the evening at the pool and having a light supper on the verandah, which was so much more relaxing. We also took advantage of one of Marie’s picnic baskets, which was really enjoyed by all. The breakfasts around the big table were really laid back, meeting other guests, and with the lovely Becas walking around checking everyone was ok and giving local advice. 

The outdoor pool at Parque Fluvial is a picturesque day out when the weather is hot, there are some stunning drives and river trips to do, and air-conditioned wineries to visit - but the kids (12 and 9) we were just happiest back at the Casa in the pool (temperatures were into the 40s though!).

Good for the soul!

We stayed there for two nights. The reception was very friendly and attentative. We felt immediately welcomed and at home The house is surrounded by a charming  garden. 
Unfortunately the weather was to cold to use the pool. 
The room was cozy and clean…. 
We would go back any time

Nice and quite place

This place is a hidden paradise! Very clean, comfort  and has everything we need for a peaceful holiday. The hosts are very welcoming, specially Maria de Lurdes who helped us to book our tours,  and the location is excellent to visit the vineyards and the river, with plenty of restaurant options in the area.
Breakfast is beautifully served in the varanda, and our room was actually a full house, with a small kitchen, living room and 2 bedrooms.
My children (9and 12) loved the pool and the atmosphere around the garden and the fruit trees. 
We will certainly be back soon.

Absolutely amazing!

After exploring the vineyards and local towns in the heat of the August sun, arriving back to the cool, tranquil gardens and pool in was a treat.

The gardens are spectacular and worth a visit alone. From booking to checkout, the hospitality was excellent. The lovely Maria greeted us at the gate on arrival and throughout our stay, the hosts were very welcoming and made our stay special. The hosts were very helpful with recommending vineyards and restaurants to book (which were also great!).

Casa da Azenha is family owned with so much history which was very interesting to learn about. 

The breakfast each morning was perfect and the 'smallest wine shop' in the hotel is great.

We will be back!

A hidden haven

Staying Here Is Worth The Trip Up The Douro Valley
No need to worry about seeing the sights in the area as staying at the Casa de Azenha was a delightful experience in itself.  The guest houses are situated in a beautiful setting among the orchard property.  The units are large with separate bedrooms, a living area, a dining area and a small kitchen. The houses are furnished with vintage pieces and when in the morning a wonderful breakfast is set out for you, you feel like royalty dining in your castle.  Although the place may be difficult to locate the location is not a problem.  With a rental car you are free to access the many interesting spots and restaurants in the area.

Staying here was worth the trip up the Douro valley

We loved this property. It has excellent views and a great breakfast. The hosts are very welcoming and warm. It was just super relaxing. The rooms are very nicely done and well equipped. Highly recommended. 

Excellent views and hospitality

Wow, what a beautiful place. A lovely garden, excellent breakfast and a great hospitality.
Take a look in the wine- and port room, and perhaps you will find a good bottle of port.

Every room is good, clean and full of everything you need. 

Wonderful garden and kindness

We stayed four nights on this beautiful property in the Isabel Suite. The surrounding gardens, fruit trees and pool all set in the middle of vineyards was befitting of one of the most beautiful parts of the world we have ever been to - the Douro Valley. The staff at this delightful retreat were exemplary and did everything they could to make our stay special. Ana who we dealt with most is a delightful young lady who was friendly and very patient with two non Portuguese speaking guests - this enterprise is fortunate to have someone of her calibre working there. Becgs (apologies if I did not spell her name correctly) was also a delight to deal with and Diogo and Alzira (apologies also if I have miss - spelt their names) take care of all the day to day maintenance of the property, including producing lovely breakfasts from much of the fruit produced on the property, perfectly. Thank you all for a great stay and hopefully one day we will be back.
